Alberta Cross – ATX, SXSW 2009

March 24, 2009

Our Alberta Cross live session has a nice comment from a reader named Dan saying that he and a friend were introduced to Alberta Cross via HearYa about 18 months ago. Unlike me, Dan has had the luxury of seeing them live a few times in NYC. I ended up catching Alberta Cross twice at [...]

Other Lives – The Partisan (Leonard Cohen Cover), SXSW 2009

March 24, 2009

On this sunny SXSW morning (actually it was 1:30pm¦but it felt like morning) I met Woody over at Cedar Street for the first set of my Thursday. After listening to their new self-titled release many times over the past month, I was really excited to see Other Lives. They did not disappoint. Great songs, arrangements, [...]

Horse Feathers – Curs In The Weeds, Live at SXSW 2009

March 23, 2009

Horse Feathers was another early afternoon delight at Home Slice Pizza. I was trying to get comfortable sitting in a pile of gravel, so things started off real shaky with the camera. It’s amazing to watch the musicians in this band swap out stringed instruments, often times in the middle of a song. Tweet

J Tillman – James Blues, Live at SXSW 2009

March 22, 2009

And we’re back! It usually takes 4 days to recover from SXSW so while the cobwebs clear, I’ll post some videos and pics from our trip down in Austin. My camera skills are weak at best, so I apologize in advance for the jerking in most of my videos. This was my first time seeing [...]

HearYa SXSW Party Preview: Gringo Star

March 16, 2009

Atlanta’s Gringo Star launched into the blogosphere with their catchy garage rock track “All Y’all” and then followed up the hype with a great, self-released debut album by the same name. While All Y’all was an early favorite of mine, the song “Transmission” ended up trumping it.‚  Look for them on stage at our Wednesday [...]

HearYa SXSW Party Preview: The Henry Clay People

March 16, 2009

The Henry Clay People are playing about 7 sets at SXSW, so there’s no question about the bands determination to win over crowds the old fashioned way. To me, their sound is like Stephen Malkmus fronting The Hold Steady. The Henry Clay People follow Ferraby Lionheart at 1pm on Wednesday at our 15 our day [...]

If you haven’t been introduced to LaundroMatinee, let me do the honors. Dodge from MOKB created this website dedicated to live video sessions and he’s had some great acts in recently, including O’Death, Blitzen Trapper and two artists that will be performing at Stimulus Package, our Wednesday 15 hour SXSW Day Party at The Paradise [...]

March 15, 2009

During SXSW 2009, I’ll be providing live coverage via Twitter. We’ve been on Twitter for awhile now, but haven’t really publicized it until now. Follow us if you’re not already and I’ll do my best to send updates from my cell phone (assuming I don’t accidentally drop it in a urinal). If you’ll be down [...]

Local Natives, another must see band at SXSW 2009

March 14, 2009

The HearYa inbox is working overdrive and we can barely keep up. The flood of SxSW info has gotten to the point that Oz and I have more or less given up and are ready to just get to Austin and blow off steam. There was one email from Taylor of Local Natives that was [...]

HearYa SXSW Party Update: Free Headbands, Free Shoes, Free Beer Nuts

March 12, 2009

We’re less than week away from our 15 hour “day” party not-so-clevery called Stimulus Package, and there are a couple updates. First off, Saucony has joined us as a sponsor and will be giving away free headbands that will display either “Winner” or “Loser” across your forehead. Show up early enough, and you could walk [...]
