Red Cortez

In just over a week, I’ll be aboard a plane wearing some noise canceling headphones, sipping on a Budweiser in a can with a shit-eatin’ grin on my face. When SXSW approaches, I get the same feeling in my stomach that I had when I was seven and Christmas was fast approaching. Just substitute beer and tex-mex for Gobots and Huey Lewis and The News on cassette.

One of the bands I’m most excited to see during the festival is Red Cortez out of LA. I briefly mentioned them in November and both the tracks I posted have made it into several of my playlists. Our “day” party starts at 11am and Red Cortez are scheduled to hit the stage at midnight, so they should light a fire under your ass if you’ve been there (and drinking) for over 12 hours. I have a feeling these guys will hit the stage with a reckless abandon.

I might even dance.

Red Cortez is a re-branded band formerly known as Weather Underground out of California.‚  They deliver songs with a varying blend of influences ranging from rock, soul, punk and blues.

You can hear all of these influences on “All the Difference” and “World at Rest.” No word on when an album might be released, but stay tuned. Red Cortez are definitely worth keeping on your radar.
