I’ve been digging the music of Pip Blom for a while and have been anxiously awaiting their debut LP. Well, the Dutch quartet have ended my waiting and on top of it all; they’re coming to SXSW. And based on their first track, they are going to be on my must-see list. Here’s some more info via the PR squad.

Today, that same plucky, head-on attitude characterises everything she does and it’s an absolute joy to behold – whether that’s witnessing her band’s powerfully impressive live show or listening to her honest, heart-on-sleeve approach to writing songs on record.

And Boat is emblematic of that – an open book of Pip Blom, delivered via her undeniable knack for writing a hook-laden, 3-4 minute song; planting it in your head and making it stay there looping days after first hearing it.

There’s the kinetic combination of guitars from herself and brother Tender Blom, the effortlessly captivating vocal range which can be authoritative and intent like in the driving album opener “Daddy Issues,” or soothing and warm as heard in melodic middle track “Bedhead.” Then there are the choruses that seem to stop songs in their tracks and lift them into a different stratosphere.

Pip Blom announces Paycheck EP for 10/5 release

A couple of years ago, I posted a track by Dutch artist, Pip Blom. At that point, I said I was anxious where she was headed. Well now, I know a and I’m pretty pleased. Here’s some more info from the PR squad.

Pip Blom is a phenomenal young indie rock band from Amsterdam that’s been making waves in England, a BBC radio darling touring with Franz Ferdinand and The Breeders. Pip Blom is both the name of the band and its leader, a dynamic 22-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist. Paycheck, the group’s new EP, is a roaring, attitude-laden offering that maintains their playfulness and knack for melody that’s earned comparisons to Blur and Courtney Barnett.

Pip Blom – Hours

by Woody on July 6, 2016

Pip

As I get older and busier, with less time to devote to going through the hundreds of emails that come into our inbox, I tend to lean on certain people that have a good idea of what I like. So when Pip’s PR fella emailed me and told me to listen to Pip; I obliged. Pip is a 19 y/o female from Amsterdam that does it all on her own. She’s the ultimate DIY gal but yet with a little buzz over in Europe, she’s at over 200K in spins on Spotify. So while she’s banked a good $4.23 based on those listens, I think she’s going to put off retirement and keep plugging away.

In the email over from their PR, he references Courtney Barnett, Speedy Ortiz and The Breeders as influences. The guitar riff really sounds like something Courtney would put together. All in all, this is a killer track and I’m anxious to see where this young lady is going to go.
