January Shows We Recommend in Chicago AND Atlanta

by That Guy on January 5, 2010

Since Oz now lives in Atlanta (a music scene step-up from wherever he lived before), I’ve included Atlanta in this month’s recommended shows. I must say the month of music doesn’t look too good in Atlanta, although Chicago doesn’t look all that promising either. One of two things has happened here: 1) Touring in January is awful, or 2) I’ve missed some good shows. Let us know if there are some good bands to check out in your neck of the nape. See you at the rock show.

Pickathon 2009: The best music festival you’ve never heard of.

by oz on April 2, 2009

pickathon

Pickathon is now in its eleventh year, so okay…you may have heard of it. For those that haven’t, it packs a weekend full of great music and unique settings with multiple sets from each of the 35 bands on 6 different stages for three full days.

The fest is located outside of Portland, OR at Pendarvis Farm on over 80 acres of lush meadow and forested campgrounds with hiking, audience views of Mt. Hood, food and craft vendors and a beer garden. The event is being hosted from July 31st through August 2nd and the lineup is damn tasty. Click here for all the details and remember that Portland is just a cheap Southwest flight away.

The lineup so far (more to be added later):

Dr. Dog

Shows We Recommend in Chicago [February]

by oz on January 29, 2009

Some readers (Vanessa) have asked several times for Chicago concert recommendations. I’ll try to squeeze one of these out at the end of each month for our Chi-town readers (even though I’m in California). For those going to Blitzen Trapper, get there early enough to catch Alela Diane and tell me all about it. I’m a big fan of her debut album.

Heartless Bastards and Alberta Cross will both be in the studio for HearYa Live Sessions as well!

In addition to Musikanto at The Darkroom tomorrow night, here are a few more upcoming shows to consider.

1/31 Heartless Bastards @ Martyrs

Heartless Bastards – Mountain

2/6 The Record Low @ Double Door

The Record Low – Southern State (from the HearYa Live Session)

2/13 Marah @ Schubas

2/19 Blitzen Trapper and Alela Diane @ Empty Bottle

Blitzen Trapper – Furr

Alela Diane – The Rifle

2/20 Deer Tick @ Empty Bottle
