May Shows We Recommend in Chicago & Atlanta

by That Guy on May 1, 2011

It hit 59 degrees yesterday in Chicago (which is 5 degrees below normal), but the sun was out so people were out in droves acting like they were on spring break in Jamaica. There were sleeveless shirts at Big Star. Rich d-bags were driving around with their tops down. I think I even saw my neighbor getting those cornrow braids with the multi-colored beads that white people like to get on spring break. So, with the promise of May truly being warm, I’m expecting a great month. Here are the best rock shows we see coming up. Let us know what we missed.

Top New Years Eve Shows To Ring In 2011

by That Guy on December 8, 2010

To me, New Years Eve is kind of like an NBA team drafting a 7 European basketball player with a lottery pick , really high expectations, but rarely met. So why not play it safe this year , go see a rock show. You know exactly what youre getting. I culled the Internets for our beloved readers, and below are some of the top New Years Eve shows from around the USA.

But before we get into our favorite shows, can I just say in researching this post I quickly discovered that STONERS LOVE SEEING LIVE MUSIC ON NEWS YEARS EVE. My dear. Its out of control.  Keller Williams, The Disco Biscuits, Phish, Umphreys McGee, Ekoostik Hookah, and about 20 other bands I didnt know were still together are all playing New Years Eve. Its tough to find a decent indie show, but if jam bands are your thing then New Years Eve is your favorite holiday behind April 20th.

January Shows We Recommend in Chicago AND Atlanta

by That Guy on January 5, 2010

Since Oz now lives in Atlanta (a music scene step-up from wherever he lived before), I’ve included Atlanta in this month’s recommended shows. I must say the month of music doesn’t look too good in Atlanta, although Chicago doesn’t look all that promising either. One of two things has happened here: 1) Touring in January is awful, or 2) I’ve missed some good shows. Let us know if there are some good bands to check out in your neck of the nape. See you at the rock show.

Shows We Recommend in Chicago [February]

January 29, 2009

Some readers (Vanessa) have asked several times for Chicago concert recommendations. I’ll try to squeeze one of these out at the end of each month for our Chi-town readers (even though I’m in California). For those going to Blitzen Trapper, get there early enough to catch Alela Diane and tell me all about it. I’m […]
