If you are unfamiliar with Futurebirds or on the fence about their music, it’s a requirement to see them live. There are few emerging bands with their energy and zeal on stage. The band is wrapping up a crazy year that included tour dates with Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Gary Clark, Jr., and J. Roddy Walston & The Business. They’ll be heading back to the studio soon to follow up their incredible 2010 debut, Hampton’s Lullaby.
For those in Chicago, we have a free pair of tickets to giveaway to the show at Schubas tomorrow night (December 15th). Email us your full name to freeshit@hearya.com and we’ll announce the winner by 1pm CST. Your name will be on the guest list +1 at the door.
This giveaway is ridiculous. Pink Floyd recently their Wish You Were Here Immersion Box Set in early November as part of a series of collections offered to hard core fans. They also have a Discovery Collection that includes 14 re-mastered albums by the legendary band. Here’s more info on the Discovery collection:
The ‘Discovery’ collection: 14 Remastered Studio Albums
Since 1967 Pink Floyd have produced one of the most outstanding and enduring catalogues in the history of recorded music. All 14 original Studio albums have now been painstakingly digitally remastered by James Guthrie (co-producer of The Wall), and are reissued with newly crafted packaging and booklets created by the band’s long-time artwork collaborator Storm Thorgerson.
‘Discovery’ albums are designed as an introduction to the artist, with all booklets including full album lyrics.
So here’s the deal. We have two prizes to give away to two readers:
One Complete Pink Floyd Catalog (Discovery Collection pictured above) + 1 Re-Mastered Vinyl Wish You Were Here + 1 Pink Floyd Tee Shirt
One Complete Pink Floyd Catalog (Discovery Collection pictured above)
The 14 CD catalog retails for $180 on Amazon (also available via iTunes) so this is a pretty insane giveaway. We’re extending this giveaway only to our Internet friends in social media. Here’s what you need to do to enter:
Earlier this year, our reluctant correspondent named SafariMan, had the pleasure of taking in the record release party for Scattered Trees. Quoth the SafariMan “I was at the record release party and my girlfriend tripped and bowled over some amorous lesbians … and that wasn’t even the best thing I saw that night … it was Scattered Trees.”
I am glad that SafariMan kept his eye on the prize. At some point during the evening, he sent me a drunken text message while I was watching a Jennifer Aniston rom-com with the wife that said, “Scattered Trees are going to be huge.” Below is a video for the title track. It’s a good tune, plus I love a good music video period piece as much as the next guy.
So, if you would like two tickets to see Scattered Trees at Lincoln Hall on 11/25, please email us at freeshit@hearya.com.
The Barr Brothers debut has proved to be one of my favorite surprises of the year. Below is a video for the excellent lead track Beggar in the Morning. We’re giving away a set of tickets for their set at Schubas on Nov. 16th. Email us at freeshit@hearya.com if you would like to attend.

My love for Okkervil River and my man-crush on Will Sheff has often bordered on uncomfortable, to put it mildly. There have been highs – meeting and shaking hands with Will at Stubb’s during SxSW one year. I still haven’t washed my hand. There have been lows – at the post-Lolla show at Schuba’s where [...]
