Retirement Party – Runaway Dog (album review)

The title track of Retirement Party’s sophomore album opens the album and while I have yet to have the pleasure of seeing them play it live; I know it will be one of tunes that ends with my arms raised above my head looking around with a big shit-eating grin on my face. It is an anthemic rocker that takes you on a ride and it is so good, it makes missing live music hurt all the more.

That is immediately followed by Compensation, joining the ever-growing list of great tunes about the trials and tribulations of the music industry. I Wonder If They Remind You is a brilliant piece of cathartic power-pop. It has all the makings of the crowd screaming the lyrics back to Avery Springer, sort of like you see at a Pup show. Afterthought reminds me of a Camp Cope tune, Springer feels reflective on this tune.

Another week is isolation. Another Chicago band releases a great album. Avery Springer, James Ringness and Eddy Rodriguez just hit this one out of the park. It has become the go-to album for my summer.
