Western Star announce Any Way How for 11/16 release

by Woody on October 25, 2018

Western Star are a four-piece out of Baltimore that know how to rock. I first caught wind up them when they were down at SXSW ’17. While they were on my list of bands to see, we never managed to cross paths. So I’m happy they’ve got another album coming out and hopefully I’ll get another crack at seeing them live.

With producer/engineer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) behind the board at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore, Western Star now arrive with their second full length album, Any Way How. They’ve embraced a clearer and more concise approach and Robbins’ polished production sets this record up and apart from their first. Musically the band maintains the wheelhouse established on Fireball: a garage inspired brand of hard rock with a classic feel that has nods to the Irish blues boogie of Thin Lizzy and to their heroes the Old 97’s. Lyrically the new album reveals an almost desperate determination and taps experiences of family and personal struggle and love lost that are solidified into dark but never hopeless rock’n’roll anthems.
