I took in a set by Australia’s Stella Donnelly during SXSW and like many others who saw her in Austin, came away very impressed. Donnelly, a recent addition to Secretly Canadian, has a wonderful stage presence. She disarms you with her charm and wit as she tackles some pretty heavy subjects.

Thrush Metal is the first release of what promises to be a long and wonderful career. The track below, Mechanical Bull; Donnelly delivers with the cadence of Courtney Barnett. My buddy Nick said he was reminded of Sharon Von Etten during her set and I’ve heard Angel Olsen tossed around in comparison. Those are some lofty names but I’m anxious to see her carve out

The end of PR describers her best – Her relatable way of writing is her lens to the world in which we live, a glimpse into what it’s like to be a millennial woman in the age of Trump, Tinder and third wave feminism.
