Lots of respect for the list.

A few that made my list that would seem to fit into your tastes and wondering if you had listened to and your thoughts:
Smooth Hound Smith – Sweet Tennessee Honey
The Record Company – Give Back to You
The Shelters – The Shelters

Not sure if these are up your alley
Quilt – Plaza
Sunflower Bean – Human Ceremony
Rob Crowe’s Gloomy Place – You’re Doomed. Be Nice

Thanks for the kind words. I like Sunflower Bean and Quilt when I listened to them. Couldn’t get into Record Co. The rest I haven’t listened to so I’ll dig into those on your recommendation.

Solid list as per usual–I’d throw in ‘Modern Country’ by William Tyler, ‘Blue Rider Songs’ by Scott Hirsch and Polica’s ‘United Crushers.’
I really appreciate what you guys do here–even though we have very similar taste in music hearya has introduced me to many acts/bands/artists thru the years–keep up the great work

I really enjoy the blog and have discovered so many great artists through it. I’ve been enjoying a few of the albums on the list that I missed during the year. The only one missing that I would recommend is Crying – Beyond the Fleeting Gales because it is excellent.

Excellent list as always Woody !!
Yes it’s the same James who was such an a-hole over John Moreland last year – my apologies (although his album was brilliant). Thanks again for all the mighty fine work you do to share music with your insight and passion !!

Here are my Top 30 Albums of 2016 … many the same and some very different selections as well. I really enjoy your list and will no doubt find some things I haven’t heard and just maybe it’ll be the same for you my friend.

Cheers and wishing all at HearYa a great 2017 !!
james

Yes! Loved Angel Olsen this year. Great list!
I’d add:
• Lucy Dacus — No Burden
• Hinds — Leave Me Alone
• Lucius — Good Grief

Woody January 3, 2017 at 12:42 pm

James.

I forgot about Justin’s album. And I discovered Courtney Marie Andrews from some other lists and have been loving that album. Back in the office today and spinning some of the ones I don’t know on your list.

Angela,

Lucy was 31 and Hinds was 29 in our Top 50. Lucius didn’t make it this year. Good Grief was solid but more poppy than I would have liked.

Hey Woody,
Darn we all forget albums and I did the same obviously omitting Angel Olsen’s excellent album and I also missed the fantastic parting album from the legendary Alt Country rockers Richmond Fontaine — ‘You Can’t Go Back If There’s Nothing to Go Back To’ Fronted by the incredible novelist Willy Vlautin it was a band that could and can compete with Uncle Tupelo imo with even better songwriting via Willy !!

james January 4, 2017 at 11:43 pm

Swear I’m not an attention whore Woody !! Just that I put my list together much too quickly and missed some excellent albums and made numerous mistakes. Please forgive me for posting this twice on YOUR blog …. haha.

PS – if there are two you don’t know I recommend Ivas John and Willy Tea Taylor.
