Spanish Gold is comprised of My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan, ex-Grupo Fantasma guitarist Adrian Quesada and guitarist/vocalist Dante Schwebel of Hacienda. Their debut, South of Nowhere is out May 27th. AS for what it sounds like, Rolling Stone so aptly pointed out that the track below sounded something like Rockwell’s Somebody’s Watching Me. Don’t let that scare you off. The track is fantastic.
Schwebel had this to say in the same article, “We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip-hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It’s an album of all those styles — like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996.”
Sounds pretty damn interesting to me. They’ll be all over Austin during SXSW. I plan on catching a set. I suggest you do the same.
