Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers, Live Session #121

Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers visited SHIRK studios for a session this past fall.  As I sit here looking out the window at heaps of snow and feel the chill of single digit temps drafting from behind the floorboards, that sunny and 65 day last September feels like forever ago.  Yes, it’s  taken me four months to get this session out the door.  (A turnaround time I’m not proud of)  We’ve been busy over here at the studio and that’s a good thing.  I’ll continue to keep putting these sessions out as frequently and as quickly as I possibly can.  Thanks to the band and you HearYa Live Session fans for being patient.

Like many people, I first heard Nicki’s voice when her Van Session cover of Hall and Oates – “I Can’t Go For That” went viral across the interwebs. However, Nicki’s been making records for awhile.  She’s got a KILLER voice and a fantastic band behind her.   I met her husband Tim at our HearYa session with the Mother Hips back in 2009, so it was a treat to welcome this crew in for a session.  Tim’s a seasoned musician as well as a studio owner so he and I had plenty of shop talk to take care of before and after the session.  (Tim, if you read this, my 2″ MCI deck is ready for you.)  Take a listen and be sure to check out Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers on tour in 2014.
