Last SXSW, my pal Jefe and I got pretty bombed on Friday. After catching a great and very upbeat set by Pickwick, Jefe wound up checking IDs at the front door of Antone’s and I wound up sitting at the bar trying to fight on fumes.
Well, after Pickwick was the act Cold Specks. She had a beautiful voice but after rocking all day, being bombed and a sunburned it was tough to fully appreciate how amazing she was. Because of that, I largely ignored her album until emusic named it their favorite album of 2012.
Cold Specks is Al Spx and her voice is from generations ago. Since I righted the wrong, I have been listening to her amazing debut I Predict a Graceful Explosion on repeat. And while I could go into greater depths, I suggest reading this as it is what convinced me to buy it.

Purchased. Awesome find Woodman.
Becker, I’d like to take the credit but many people have been hip to her for far longer. That being said, she is fantastic.
We caught her live outside DC last Fall and she puts on a helluva show. Of course, with pipes like that, it’s hard not to be dazzled.
Oh HearYa…don’t you read my recommendations? I mentioned this gem back in July.

But seriously, you guys have introduced me to some great new tunes and I thank you for that!
They are opening for Jim James on his solo tour. I’m excited to see them in Philly.
