November 2011

This giveaway is ridiculous. Pink Floyd recently their Wish You Were Here Immersion Box Set in early November as part of a series of collections offered to hard core fans. They also have a Discovery Collection that includes 14 re-mastered albums by the legendary band. Here’s more info on the Discovery collection:

The ‘Discovery’ collection: 14 Remastered Studio Albums
Since 1967 Pink Floyd have produced one of the most outstanding and enduring catalogues in the history of recorded music. All 14 original Studio albums have now been painstakingly digitally remastered by James Guthrie (co-producer of The Wall), and are reissued with newly crafted packaging and booklets created by the band’s long-time artwork collaborator Storm Thorgerson.

‘Discovery’ albums are designed as an introduction to the artist, with all booklets including full album lyrics.

So here’s the deal. We have two prizes to give away to two readers:

  1. One Complete Pink Floyd Catalog (Discovery Collection pictured above) + 1 Re-Mastered Vinyl Wish You Were Here + 1 Pink Floyd Tee Shirt
  2. One Complete Pink Floyd Catalog (Discovery Collection pictured above)

The 14 CD catalog retails for $180 on Amazon (also available via iTunes) so this is a pretty insane giveaway. We’re extending this giveaway only to our Internet friends in social media. Here’s what you need to do to enter:

  1. If you aren’t a Facebook fan already, head over and “like” us or follow us on Twitter.
  2. Then just tweet this on Twitter or head to Facebook and like this post or leave a comment about Pink Floyd on our wall.

Damien Jurado’s last album, Saint Bartlett, has slowly become my favorite in his 15 year discography. That album was produced by Richard Swift and the collaboration was magical. Jurado and Swift have been sweating it out in the studio and will release Damien’s new album, Maraqopa, in February.

Don’t expect a simple folk record. Maraqopa promises to find team Jurado/Swift forging into new territory. “Nothing is News” is the first glimpse of the record and with jazzy percussion, bluesy guitar and an addictive, dark quirkiness. A promising start for 2012?

Carter Tanton – Freeclouds (album review)

November 22, 2011

Tulsa’s full-length debut was one of my most anticipated albums of 2009. Their EP, I Was Submerged, was on repeat for 2007 and 2008. I saw them at SxSW, at Schubas for Tomorrow Never Knows and had all but scheduled Tulsa in for a HearYa session. And then they were gone; vanished into thin air [...]

Mates of State, Live Session #96

November 18, 2011

Mates of State are a husband wife duo consisting of Kori Gardener and Jason Hammel.  I first learned of them through my friend Bill Racine who co-produced their album Bring It Back in 2006.  “Punchlines” and “Running Out” are two of my favorite songs off that album that I’ve returned to many times over the [...]
