Blitzen Trapper Love The Way You Walk Away [new mp3, Music Video]

by oz on September 12, 2011

Blitzen Trapper’s American Goldwing is out tomorrow via Sub Pop Records. For those of you that were miffed about the prog rock sound on their previous record, Destroyer of the Void, it’s time to stop your belly-aching. The Portlanders are back with an incredible Americana rock record. I’ll have more to say very soon, but don’t hesitate to pick this bad boy up in the morning. Here’s a free track and accompanying video.

I have been listening to this album almost non-stop since my girlfriend pre-ordered it for me as a birthday present a month ago. My vinyl copy should be arriving any day! There are a couple songs I’m not crazy about (Might Find it Cheap, Your Crying Eyes), but overall I think it is a stellar album. Some critics have been saying it is not “original” enough, but as a real folky myself I must confess I was relieved that it did not have as many proggy tracks. BT has integrated the more intergalactic, proggy side tastefully on tracks like Destroyer of the Void, Gold for Bread, and Dragon’s Song, but this album feels more honest and down to earth. And in my opinion, while the album clearly draws heavily from Neil Young, Dylan, and even the Dead and Zeppelin, it still has its own clearly BT sound. Most importantly, the songwriting and lyrics shine – just listen to “My Hometown” and you’ll know what I mean.
