First Aid Kit are giving me goosebumps. “Ghost Town” was one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite discoveries of 2010 and hearing the live session version gave me chills all over. Their debut album, The Big Black And The Blue, turned all sorts of heads in the States and overseas. While I like to think I was ahead of the curve in my initial discovery, over 1 million people (now over 2 million) had already laid eyes on them with a cover of Fleet Foxes’ “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” on YouTube.
The Swedish sisters, Klara & Johanna S¶derberg, visited Chicago on their US tour and stopped by Shirk Music + Sound for a session that highlights their varied talents – wise beyond their years songwriting (neither sister is of US drinking age) and spot-on harmonies, likely due in large part to shared DNA.
Much like sibling folk counterparts The Avett Brothers, First Aid Kit strike a perfect balance between acoustic folk sentiment and mainstream commercial appeal. Listen to the tracks, watch the videos, tell some friends. Hear “Ghost Town” and prepare for some hair standing up on your arm.
That’s it folks. We’re off to Austin for the rest of the week for SxSW. Follow us on Twitter to see our whereabouts.

I was in the studio filming this session. I would get lost in their voices and forget I was filming for 10 or 15 seconds at a time. Ghost Town is simply amazing.
