Damien Jurado – Proof He’s Ridiculously Underrated

by That Guy on March 2, 2011

I’ve been listening to Damien Jurado a lot lately, and the more I listen the more I realize how wildly underrated he is. As far as singer-songwriters go, people like Sam Beam, Conor Oberst, or Justin Vernon have been getting all of the recent fanfare, while Damien Jurado has been quietly plugging along for over 10 years. During that time, he’s put out some incredibly original, beautiful music. I recently started following him on Twitter, and I’m glad I did. He just tweeted about a Tiny Desk Concert he did for NPR, and it’s outstanding. Listen to the whole thing and tell me there’s a better singer-songwriter out there today.

And while we’re at it, Damien Jurado also recently put out a collection of covers with his buddy Richard Swift called “Other People’s Songs, Volume 1″. It also is outstanding, and can be downloaded for the low, low price of zero dollars.
