Dirty Gold, California Sunrise [Music Video]

by Eric Kane on February 7, 2011

As much of the country recovers from yet another winter storm, Im reminded of musics uncanny ability to transport the mind to another place and time. An example of this phenomenon comes in the form of Dirty Golds “California Sunrise.” This teenage two-piece from San Diego open the song with the sound of seagulls and quickly gives way to an intoxicating mix of surf rock guitar riffs, afrobeat percussion, and vocals that evoke summer and provide a respite as the mercury continues to hover around the freezing mark. If “California Sunrise” is any indication Dirty Golds forthcoming EP, Roar, it’s definitely something to look out for this spring.

I like the tribal percussion but I’m not convinced this music is something that I need. Maybe I’m bitter because I can’t surf.
