Iron & Wine – New Album, Free MP3

by That Guy on January 6, 2011

Remember Iron & Wine? I do…barely. I haven’t really listened to them/him since 2004’s Our Endless Numbered Days and then the collaboration with Calexico, but I have fond memories of Sam Beam inventing the Beard in what I imagine was his woodshop and quickly becoming America’s folk hero. I mean, I guess we have been in a recession for something like 3 years and Sam Beam’s music isn’t exactly what I would call “jubilant,” but has America just been too depressed to listen to him?

Maybe he picked up on that, because he and his new band are set to release a new album, Kiss Each Other Clean, on January 25th and Beam describes the album as sounding “like the music people heard in their parents car growing up€¦ that early-to-mid-70s FM, radio-friendly music.” Gotta respect the Beard.

You can download “Tree By the River,” a new track off the album, by signing up for Iron & Wine’s email list right here. It’s definitely a departure for them, but I’m digging it. Here’s the video. And here’s a great track from their EP released last year.

P.S. (for loyal HearYa readers) Over/under on @oddbodkins zinging a beard comment is 2.5 hours. I’m giddy with anticipation.
