Its that time of year. Were hard at work, arm wrestling and pulling out each others hair, in an attempt to rank our Top 50 Albums of 2010 list. While we continue that catfight, our favorite shorties of 2010 are here! My favorite EP was Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird by The Tallest Man On Earth, while Woodys was Broken Dreams Club by Girls. Since Im the guy that hits the “Publish” button, The Tallest Man took the #1 slot. We also added a fifth place tie because there are no rules when creating lists.
The other EPs are all sublime in their own right. Megafaun, The Roadside Graves, and The Moondoggies are HearYa Live Session alumni (Doggies sesh to be released around the first of the year). Youve got some mp3s to sample below and the albums can be found at the digital retailers , make sure to grab Tallest Mans EP at Amazon for less than $2.50.

I’ll say this about Girls. I was really expecting them to flame out after their debut album. Well, the lesson as always is that I am a dumbass. This is awesome and much better than Album in my humble, yet flawed opinion.
Volunteers is also one of my favorite tunes of 2011. Having them play at the HearYa HQ was one of my musical highlights of 2011.
Not sure how many bands could have put out a full album that was absolutely perfect in about every way and an EP that was perfect AND saw the songwriter grow immensely, but The Tallest Man on Earth did just that. He pretty much soundtracked the entire year for me. Hell of an artist.
Honorable mention, at least, for Delta Spirit’s Waits Room EP.
Hank – Thought about that Waits Room, but they lose points since two of the five tracks, although incredible, are alternate versions of tracks on their LP. I found the other songs on that EP average.
Telekinesis – Parallel Seismic Conspiracies = great ep
I’d like to have The Tallest Man On Earth – Like The Wheel. It’s a new taste for someone like me starting next year.
You can find Like the Wheel, and whichever other band you missed this year on my friend’s rad media search site. http://frederickallen.net/media-search/ Just put the artist or band name in quotes, and you’ll live the next year with great tunes all courtesy of google. Hells yeah. Plus, the site is simple and pretty.
How about Boy and Bear’s debut EP – With Emperor Antartica? Great stuff!
I like this list. I think you def got the top 5, good job!
Good list. I would like to squeeze Howlin’ Rain’s ep into though.
@JBL – I would as well. I just didn’t know they put one out. Check out the live session we did with Howlin’ Rain.
This is pretty decent but do you have any def leppard or Bryan Adams? I’m a pretty big deal and that’s how I roll……..
Black keys is cool-not crazy about most others.
