The Tallest Man On Earth at Webster Hall, NYC [Concert Review]

by Woody on October 4, 2010

Last Monday night, The Tallest Man on Earth played Webster Hall for what he proclaimed to be his largest indoor show ever. The sizable, but remarkably reverent crowd was treated to a breathtaking set, as The Tallest Man wasted no time in demonstrating his ever-increasing command of the stage.

With the release of his sophomore album, The Wild Hunt, in April of this year, The Tallest Man solidified his place as one of musics most compelling songwriters. It was therefore no surprise when his latest EP, Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird (forthcoming in physical formats) presented five new and beautifully crafted songs. The revelation, however, comes in The Tallest Mans live show, and his ability to captivate his audience with mesmerizing vocals and intricate guitar work.

It had been a mere five months since a New York City audience had the privilege of spending an evening with The Tallest Man. However, in this short period of almost constant touring, he has continued to evolve as a performer and now presents an even more dynamic live show.

Highlights from his 17 song set included a brief, but stunning, tease of Bob Dylans “Youre a Big Girl,” a tender “Love is All,” and a starlit version of “Where Do My Bluebirds Fly.” Although he momentarily forgot the words during “Like The Wheel,” it and all but one song from the new EP proved to be tremendous additions to his live repertoire. After a three-song encore that concluded with “This Wind,” the crowd was visibly reluctant to leave and for the evening end. I for one couldnt help but feeling that The Tallest Man might actually “walk upon the river like its easier than land.”

All the download links work for me. Looks like a great show. I can’t believe that I’ve never seen him live.

Links 3-5 don’t work for me either. Playback or right-click/download.

I’m jealous I couldn’t be there! I would kill to see him play live. I’m glad you’re posting about such good music that should be shared on a grand level!

“I Won’t Be Found”

I enjoyed this song. I like how he added a bit of “flair” to the end of each verse (well almost every verse). Well made.
