Vampire Weekend – Contra [Album Review]

January 13, 2010

Recently released is the new album of one of the more polarizing bands in indie music, Vampire Weekend’s Contra.‚  Ambivalence runs thick with this band and regrettably that is unlikely to change with this album.‚  I’ve written of Vampire Weekend previously after attending a show in Manhattan’s Upper Westside late in 2008.‚  At the time [...]

The Mother Hips, Live Session #63

January 12, 2010

I reviewed The Mother Hips’ latest release Pacific Dust and declared them the most underrated band of the last 20 years. I have been a fan of these guys since 95′s Part-Timer Goes Full, so when I heard Oz booked the session, I rearranged (i.e. blew off) a meeting in the real world and was [...]

The Avett Brothers w/ Langhorne Slim at The Fox Theater, Atlanta [Concert Review]

January 7, 2010

I’ve been to a few Avett Brothers shows over the years. Saw them at the Fillmore in San Francisco last year with Magnolia Electric Co. as the opener. The Avett Brothers tested a few new songs that would become I And Love And You, but I’d characterize the band/crowd interaction as cautious and curious…like two [...]

January 6, 2010

Earlier this year in a post about the phenomenal‚ Wooden Sky album, I happened to notice there were a lot of bands with “Wood” in the name and that it almost automatically ensures that the band will be good. Now I’ve seen the word “Island” pop up in 3‚ incredible songs over the past few weeks, and [...]
