Earlier this year in a post about the phenomenal Wooden Sky album, I happened to notice there were a lot of bands with “Wood” in the name and that it almost automatically ensures that the band will be good. Now I’ve seen the word “Island” pop up in 3 incredible songs over the past few weeks, and it got me to thinking. If a band out there could combine the words “Wood” and “Island” into a band name, album, or song title, it would most definitely ensure greatness. Kind of like when you see a professional athlete’s name, and you just know they were bound for glory. Like Usain Bolt, Champ Bailey, Kimbo Slice, Gaylord Perry, Dick Trickle, and of course Rusty Kuntz.
I digress…here are the “Island” songs you’re just going to love. George Zimmer guarantees it. (By the way, that Islands Vapours album sure is good.)

You might need to name them Wooden Island Crystals if you really want to see superstardom.
Good call. Or Wooden Island Crystal Bear Feathers.
THE Wooden Island Crystal Bear Feathers
The xx are amazing and Islands is definitely a stand out track. Check out the progression of Indie music over the last decade here http://bit.ly/7e2SfY

In all this discussion of names, I can’t refuse to tell this story. A friend in Atlanta went to the same Decemberists show we went to at the Tabernacle. We all cringed when he talked about the girls who said they were “really excited” to see “The Grizzly Bears” open the show.
Pete – classic. Love stuff like that. I knew a guy in junior high who would always call the Utah Jazz the “Utah Jazzes”. Ahhh, the Hernandez-es-es.
