Human Highway are yet another band I’ve been keeping to myself. Sometimes I have trouble figuring out what to say about an album and I keep listening, waiting for inspiration. To be honest though, writing mediocre album reviews gets tough. Sometimes you just need to share without worrying about sounding eloquent.‚ Human Highway released an album early this year called Moody Motorcycle via Suicide Squeeze Records and it makes me all warm inside.
I love breezy, summer folk music and that’s what Nick Thorburn (also a member of the band Islands) and Jim Guthrie (a singer-songwriter) serve up like soft serve ice cream. Moody Motorcycle feels inspired by the salt water on your lips, sunburns on your skin, misty ocean waves and cool sand in your crack. If I didn’t know better, I’d assume this was a Northern California band and not a couple Canadians.
I’m glad there isn’t an Olympic event for music, because Canada might just dominate the States. Human Highway is the latest in the stable of Canadian bands that have me dreaming of a northward migration. There’s something going on up there. It might be utopia. I’d pick a few good songs, but you’d be better off pouring yourself a pina colada and just hitting the play button on Moody Motorcycle.

Love this album. Have you seen the official video for “The Sound?” Awesome.
The problem clearly can be summed up as follows: less bangs, more beard.
