Introducing Those Darlins, touring w/ Dan Auerbach

by Woody on December 6, 2008

As if finding out that Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys will be touring next year with Hacienda as his backup band wasn’t good enough, apparently their opening act is also pretty kick ass as well. I’d never heard of Those Darlins until seeing the announcement that they would be touring with Auerbach in support of his solo effort.

Seeing as how we’re more or less gay for anything Dan Auerbach does, I clicked on Those Darlins MySpace page and was immediately taken with their unique perspective on country music. Their sound channels the traditional country sound you’d expect to hear at The Grand Ole Opry, but as dig you into the lyrics you’ll feel a punk attitude to go along with it.

Here’s an early taste of a band that’s going to be making some noise in ’09.

Not only did i snag tix to see the Keys in Ballymore in early Feb., i already snagged my tix’s for Dan’s show in DC in late Feb. i do believe the latter is going to be the first show i’ve been to in a loooong time where i’m actually looking forward to catching both opening acts, too.

By the by, the signed copy of A&R came today. Thanks again, gents.

Nice! I’m actually watching the new Keys DVD at this very moment while the wife and daughter take a nap. I’m not much for live music DVD’s, but this one rules.

We’ll definitely need some coverage for the Auerbach/Hacienda shows, so stay in touch to let us know how it goes. That DC date is in advance of Chicago and San Fran, so you’ll be the eyes and ears until they head westward.

I am going to his Mpls show. I have the ad taped to my fridge so hubby can also be mesmerized by DA’s smoldering stare– uh, oh wait.
Anyway- keep being totally “whatever” for DA– the more coverage the better! I wish his new album came out NOW.

OZ– Is the DVD pretty straight concert footage or is there some goofing around too?

So far its all concert footage, but there are some special features – behind the scenes stuff from the making of Attack and Release and the making of the “Your Touch” video.

The live footage is very well done. I’ll probably post more commentary about the DVD in the coming days/weeks on HearYa.
