New mp3: Blitzen Trapper – Bread for Gold

by oz on October 14, 2008

For those of you sick of seeing us post the track “Furr” from Blitzen Trapper’s album by the same name, I’ve got some good news. Sub Pop just released “Gold for Bread.” I still think this is the best album of 2008…

I agree – Furr is definitely the best album of 2008!

I can’t figure out why Pfork hasn’t reviewed it yet?

p4k can’t really be taken too seriously… especially in light of their review of scarlett johanssen’s album. they seemed to have rated her more than her album. makes sense seeing as they rated her album better than some great bands’ albums out there. wtf

Yeah, Pitchfork might be too busy trashing indie bands instead of talking up the bands that are becoming truly great.

By the way, has anyone listened to the lyrics to this track? I’m fairly certain you won’t here this line on any other album: “There’s a monkey in a mask and he’s calling my name. There’s a midget on his back waiting for a midnight train.” Genius.

it seems to me that pitchfork has been somewhat of a parody of itself. the site started out as a way to bring underground bands to the forefront by offering them up as an alternative to mainstream music. now that indie bands are making it (and some would argue becoming too cool for their own good), pfork seems hellbent on working another contrarian angle by not handing out praise to otherwise worthy recipients. bottom line now is who cares because there are so many other ways to listen to these bands on your own. pfork always will be a tastemaker to some, but it surely isn’t the only venue to find flavor.
