If music blogs had wet dreams, HearYa.com’s would be a festival that included Okkervil River, Port O’Brien, Dr. Dog, The Morning Benders and Fleet Foxes. Throw in the Raconteurs, Tokyo Police Club, Spiritualized, Or The Whale, John Vanderslice, and The Dodos, and things get really messy.
San Francisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival has an incredible lineup on Sunday. I actually passed over widely talked about, Lolla-esque, Wilco and Radiohead-wielding Outside Lands Festival for this one that has a more unique (and colder) location and hopefully smaller crowds.
If you aren’t going, here’s a smattering of music to entice you to hop on a bus over to the island on Sunday afternoon. (The festival actually starts on Saturday, but that day’s lineup isn’t my cup of tea).
Or The Whale – Call and Response
The Morning Benders – Damnit Anna
Exclusive: The Morning Benders – Waiting On A War (from our live session with The Morning Benders)
Port O’Brien – I Woke Up Today
Exclusive: Port O’Brien – From Port (from our live session with Port O’Brien)
The Kills – Love Is A Deserter
Fleet Foxes – White Winter Hymnal
Fleet Foxes – He Doesn’t Know Why
Dr. Dog – Heart it Races (Architecture in Helsinki Cover)
Okkervil River – Lost Coastlines
Okkervil River – Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe
Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma (from the Daytrotter Session)
Tegan and Sarah – The Con

My fantasy fest as of today. It would be held at Chicago’s Millenium Park in early October. Here it is in order (45 minutes for openers, 1 1/2 hours for headliner):
Siderunners (1st band I saw live in Chicago when I moved)
Dodos (great other stripped-down starter)
Andrew Bird (another hometown boy)
Catfish Haven (more hometown love, this time bluesy)
Okkervil River (picking up the pace)
O’Death (knocking out some teeth)
Two Cow Garage (shooting whiskey through your gaping mouth)
Drive-by Truckers (just straight kicking ass to put me to bed).
Incidentally, I’m going to see the Dodos on Oct. 8 in Chicago for the first time. Can’t wait.
You and woody might be soul mates.
This TI fest is about as good as it gets for a real festival. If I could add in DBT and Blitzen Trapper, oh boy.
And toss in the Avett Bros.
DBT Chicago – did Woody pay you to make that list? Solid lineup.
I like the idea of the fantasy fest…similar to the fantasy supergroup. Venue/lineup/time of year are a great start, would be curious to hear who the sponsors would be and libations served – cleary whiskey would be one of them. Woody – true or false your fantasy fest would be an all ages show so you could bring Teddy and ogle high school babes at the same time.
DBT’s list is very close.
In order, this is how it would play out.
Port O’Brien
The Fleet Foxes
O’Death
Lucero
DBT
The Hold Steady
Wilco
Okkervil River
Will Sheff, Teddy and I going out for ice cream
Teddy and I will be at Lolla for one day next year. Look for us.
