Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant EP
Published by Woody April 4th, 2008.
Did you ever skip class in college? Yeah, me too. Did you ever spend your free time brewing up some mushroom tea while lying around on your water bed listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash’s first album? You didn’t? Huh…that’s weird. Well I remember feeling like I was floating in mid-air while angels sang to me (Right now my mother is piecing together the endless stream of B minuses).
It’s rare to hear a band compared to CSN these days. You’ll see all sorts of bands referenced in reviews: The Stones, The Kinks, The Clash. Why no CSN? I think it’s because CSN’s hallmark was in their beautiful harmonies and most bands can’t replicate the magic. Clocking in at under 20 minutes, the Fleet Foxes’ EP has gotten under my skin like very few before it. The third tune on the EP, “English House,” is so mind-numbingly beautiful that any description would be incapable of doing it justice.
This release is an appetizer as the Washington quintet preps their full-length release due out later this year on Sub Pop. They’re currently touring with Blitzen Trapper and will be at Schubas’s on Sunday. I caught them at SXSW and it was an experience to behold. I’ll see you on Southport.
Unfortunately they aren’t offering any mp3’s just yet, but you can check out their tracks on MySpace.
