It’s been said on this site on more than one occasion, that O’Death is one of my favorite bands out there today. Up until now I wasn’t very familiar with the other acts on their label, Ernest Jenning Record Co, but I have been listening to The Black Hollies and their excellent new release, Casting Shadows, for a few days now.
The New Jersey foursome put forth a sound that reminiscent of 60’s pyshedelic soul and garage rock. Casting Shadows breezes by at 37 minutes, but with each listen it sticks with me longer than its playtime.
The Black Hollies just gave me a good reason to stumble into Friends an hour early and warm up before my SUNY brethren take the stage at the Ernest Jenning Showcase.
