I picked up Arizona’s Fameseeker and the Mono EP about 2 months ago and I must confess - I didn’t really like it for the first couple of spins. Maybe I had a crappy day at work, maybe the twins weren’t let me sleep or worse yet, maybe Oz butchered one of my articles to justify his lofty editor title. For whatever reason, I just had it in my mind that this was a mediocre offering and never gave it a second thought. Last week on a drive into work, however, I saw it staring at me from my iPod and I decided to give Arizona another try. It proved to be a fortuitous encounter.
Arizona put forth a brand of folk/indie rock that is captivating. The EP opens up with “Thimble,” a song that combines fantastic harmonizing with a dreamy sound, along with intermittent fits of guitar. I’m not saying that they are the second coming of Wilco, but “Thimble” reminds me of a Yankee Hotel Foxtrot offering. “Life Is Great,” on the other hand, opens with a catchy hook that gives off a Mother Hips feel and finally the EP closes down with a beautiful track called “…Imagining You.”
Well kids, the lesson here is not to be overly judgemental unless discussing Fall Out Boy. They just plain suck and there’s nothing anyone can say or do to change my mind. But for other acts, its never a bad idea to check back in a month or two later. I am sure glad I did with Arizona.

hey man - funny to read this. Fameseeker has always been my least favorite thing that we’ve done, and I was driving down to North Carolina and listening to a ton of music and decided to put it on for shits and giggles and was really pleasantly surprised. Thanks for giving it another shot!
