I recently picked up the excellent debut EP by Montreal’s Plants and Animals. It’s a short record, but each of the four songs feels epic in nature.
“Faerie Dance” stars off so slow that it lulls you to sleep for the first two and half minutes before slowly building with some heavy-handed piano and strings over the next three minutes. It then slowly eases towards the finish line with some understated vocals and harmonies. That track is followed up with “Guru/Sinnerman” which sounds like Genesis doing a Santana cover…only it’s really a Nina Simone track.

Can’t wait for more twists and turns from this threesome. This was an excellent appetizer and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into a full LP.

They are planning their tour now, which will coincide with SXSW 2008. An appearance maybe?
