No, I’ve not yet seen the movie Once. I will get to it someday, but I cannot stop listening to the soundtrack given to me by a friend a few weeks ago. There is just something about Glen Hansard’s voice. He took time off from fronting The Frames to film Once, where he plays a struggling musician who meets an Czech émigré, also a struggling musician, played by Marketa Irglova. According to the synopsis they, through their own pieced together music, inspire and eventually fall for each other.
Regardless, most of the tracks on the disc are fuller band pieces. The final track, “Say It To Me Now,” was actually recorded live on set and free of production. The solo acoustic guitar serves only as a pallet for Hansard to showcase his amazing vocal skills. By the midpoint of the song, he is essentially screaming, yet it still maintains its earthy quality. The intensity contained in such an overwhelming piece is always inspirational to me just merely from listening.
And while this may just be a One Track at a Time, let this also serve as a full endorsement of the entire album. It is excellent and well worth a purchase. Who knows, maybe even after I see the movie I’ll like the songs even more. But until then, I’ll be enjoying the amazing song writing and vocals by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

Very cool tune.
I have heard this song countless umpteen times, and seen many youtube versions, including the one that someone posted from the actual movie (can’t wait til the DVD comes out soon).
But even after who knows how many times of hearing it, I swear to god, it tears me up every time. The raw emotion is gripping.
