O’Death has followed up their excellent debut, Head Home, with a 3 song EP, available on eMusic. The EP includes a cover of the old Pixies track “Nimrod’s Son.” Much like Head Home, the EP is a mash of punk, folk, bluegrass and goth country, kind of like a deranged version of the Soggy Bottom Boys. They have one of the most unique sounds I have heard in quite some time.
Much like myself, the boys are products of the SUNY education system, which gives us unrivaled intellect. I didn’t see them at SXSW in 2007, but their performances were quite the buzz in Austin. I have this picture in my head of a crowd half-drunk on moonshine, dancing around like fools. I am wholeheartedly in favor of and more than willing to participate in such mayhem.
The three tracks on the EP are all phenomenal. If this is an indication of the direction that the band is going, color me excited. For those unfamiliar here are some tracks from Head Home as well as a live performance.
