It’s refreshing to find an artist that’s not afraid to bare his soul for us. Mark Olson, former founder of the Jayhawks, has delivered his first solo album entitled Salvation Blues. He claims that after a life-changing event, the music rescued him from a deep depression (hence the title).
I’m glad he started writing again and I’m glad he collaborated with some other fine musicians to bring music to his poetry. I’ve never been a huge fan of the Jayhawks, but Mark Olson has won me over with a refreshing brand of honest folk music. It’s an album about facing life’s challenges, squeezing out some hope, and realizing contentment as we look to the future.
In addition to the tunes below, take a minute to visit Mark on MySpace and listen to “My Carol.”
