Top 50 Halloween Songs, Part 1

It’s almost Halloween, and time to put together some music to get you in the mood to brew up some apple cider and Captain Morgan, flip on the porch light, and hand out some “fun size” candy bars. We’ve compiled the best songs to get you in the mood for Halloween, and even loosely categorized them for you. Here goes¦

Treats

Was there anything worse than the old lady down the street who gave “treats” like a box of raisins, apples, pencils, or pennies? It makes me want to cry for her.

1. Candy Floss – Wilco
2. Candy Man – Grateful Dead
3. Chocolate – Snow Patrol
4. Pour Some Sugar on Me – Def Leppard
5. Like Eating Glass – Bloc Party

Scary Halloween Animals

This set of songs contains probably my favorite random lyric of all time from Warren Zevon, “¦and his hair was perfect.” No clue why Zevon threw that in there. Anyway, no Halloween is complete without some scary animal songs.

6. Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon
7. Bats in the Belfry – Dispatch
8. Spiders (Kidsmoke) – Wilco
9. Wolves – Josh Ritter

The Devil – Worst Guy Ever
This set of songs reminds me of this time some random drunk guy bought me and a bunch of friends a shot at a bar, then toasted us with, “See you in hell.” Ummm¦thanks, I think. He then walked out the door and started peeing on the sidewalk just outside the window.

10. The Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels Band
11. Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult
12. Devil’s Haircut – Beck
13. Devils Painted Red – Golden Bear
14. Sympathy for the Devil – The Rolling Stones
15. Runnin’ with the Devil – Van Halen
16. Friend of the Devil – Grateful Dead

Halloween – A.F.I. or the original one by Misfits.
Wake the Dead – The Used
The Devil’s Ball – World/Inferno Friendship Society
Creepy Doll – Jonathan Coulton
The Sharpest Lives – My Chemical Romance

The last three aren’t necissarily about Halloween, infact the Devil’s Ball is about the day before Halloween, called the Devil’s Day, and Creepy Doll isn’t crrepy, but they’re good to have anyway.
