John Bustine – Waltzes and Pleas

John Bustine

John Bustine owns one of the best domain names ever: http://comeonassholedoyouthinkimmadeofmoneyorwhat.org/. It’s coming soon.
His bio on Gypsy Eyes Records hints at a sordid past pulling him out west to San Francisco then back east to his hometown of Washington DC. John’s memories, inner demons, and studies of scripture are the inspiration behind his lyrics and his sound is a blend of Americana, folk, and country, similar to songwriter Guy Clark. John Bustine managed to put together one hell of a debut album with Waltzes and Pleas.

Bustine seems to be one part insightful, introspective poet and one part dirty, bitter old man wrapped up in tattooed skin that he might not be all that comfortable in. Whether it’s his travels, a streak of bad luck, or a bit too much booze that gives his songs and his persona some mystery, I’m not sure. I also don’t care. His music is sincere, well crafted, simple without being boring and it sucked me right in. It’s been playing in my house just about every day this week.

Waltzes and Pleas will be released on September 18th. You can hear more tracks here.
