Today I’ll be drinking margaritas while listening to Fourth of July’s Fourth of July on the Plains. I’ve been holding off posting anything about these guys until the appropriate date, but have been listening to them for a few weeks now.
This is one of the catchiest albums I’ve heard so far this year and it’s perfect for your summertime listening pleasure. It’s an album you can play straight through without even making a move toward your skip button. It’s a fine debut from a fun, exciting, immediately accessible band from the plains.
My family all lives about 15 miles from Fourth of July’s hometown of Lawrence, KS, which seems to have a growing music scene. I might have to check out a show next time I’m in town for a KU basketball game. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

rock chalk jayhawk is right. i moved away from lawrence three years ago and still get homesick for it. one of the things i miss the most is the indie music scene there. lots of good local bands.
