Mother HIps

I’ve been a fan of The Mother Hips for a long time, but before this past weekend had never seen a live show. I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Bluhm in his studio a few months back before recording our live session with The Antiques. Tim is the nicest guy and he and the rest of the Hips really seem to adore their fans. I wanted to make a point to check them out after they got back to California from my old stomping grounds in Chicago. The boys put on a great show in a tiny venue.

Moe’s Alley is a small bar in Santa Cruz, where it’s easy to get served, easy to see the stage from anywhere, easy to get a table next to the stage if you arrive early enough, and easy to pee in the bathroom. I never once saw a line. That’s my kind of place.

Brothers and Sisters, from Austin, Texas opened for The Mother Hips and they are definitely worth checking out. I really enjoyed their set as well.

I like this Broters and Sisters song. Has a nice mellow alt-country feel to it.
