Ola Podrida have been getting enough buzz to finally pique my interest. To everyone who’s been spreading the word, let me say thank you. This is an amazing album.
The band, Ola Podrida, is essentially David Wingo. Wingo, who had been keeping himself busy by composing scores for a bunch of movies I have never heard of (infant twins have limited me to one vice and music won out of over movies), moved back to Austin from Brooklyn and eventually enlisted some help to round out his sound.
The overall feel of the album is a real mellow indie/alt-country sound. Each song effortlessly drifts out of the speaker to paint you a picture of a particular moment in each story. This is where his previous work comes in handy, as none of his lyrics are overly obtuse.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing Ola Podrida yet, you’ll be soon be thanking me, much like I have for those who have opened my eyes to this gem of an album.
