As eMusic makes pricing more attractive for folks like us, they are reportedly losing popularity with at least six partner labels. eMusic is battling allegations according to Digital Music News, citing that the report never named any of the labels. The Washington Post quoted the head of one of the larger labels who said (off the record), “We’ve been partners with eMusic since the very beginning, and it is a great way for our customers to discover music. I hope they can make it a better value proposition for the labels. But if they don’t, we are planning on pulling out.”
All of this started after eMusic began offering their Connoisseur Plan, which costs $75 per month and gets you 300 downloads. I’m not a
mathematician, but $0.25 per song seems too good to be true. It probably is.

I am a big proponent of emusic. I think it is a great avenue to exploring new music. Personally I would be happy to pay a little bit extra if they were able to add labels like Barsuk, Sub Pop, etc.
Cheap prices and no content is not worth it. Paying an additional $5 a month but having a greater selection would not scare this user away.
That’s always the tradeoff, right? You get what you pay for, unless you pay for a ticket to spiderman 3. Just an awful movie.
