[...] We’ve had some really great unsigned bands on HearYa in the past. Some of my favorites have been The Record Low, Pale Young Gentlemen, Gringo Star, Cracklin Moth, and yesterday Woody featured a great album by Bean Pickers Union. I think I have a new band to add to the list and their name is Motel Motel. [...]

[...] Curious, I decided to thumb through the magazine. One of the first ads I saw was for Russell Simmons’ line of clothing called Argyleculture. Mr. Simmons is wearing a dark suit that appears to be about 6 sizes too big, a New York Yankees hat cocked to the side, and bright white sneakers. Not exactly something I’d wear to The Record Low show at Schubas later this month. If you’d like to purchase any Argyleculture apparel for your loved ones this holiday season, it’s available at your local Phat Farm. [...]

[...] 1. Night’s like tonight (Friday) are the reason I love living in Chicago so much. Playing together at the historic Metro are two HearYa Live Session alums. Cracklin Moth and The Record Low take the stage at 9 tonight. Also at Schubas, Oz’s favorites (and subsequent influence for the infamous “Pitchfork Ass Blowing” post) Scott H. Biram and Radio Moscow are playing at 10. This would normally be a difficult choice for me; deciding between 2 bands that I know I like but have seen several times and 2 other bands bringing something fresh to the table. However, the decision has already been made for me, I’ll be working at the bar from 9 until 2 tonight listening to acoustic covers of Sweet Caroline and the drunken masses who sing the “ba ba ba”s. Please, someone go in my stead. [...]

I was fortunate enough to be on site for this live session and hang with Oz and Shirk and the boys from The Record Low. Shirk's studio is nothing short of incredible, and I laughed out loud on several occasions both during and after the session... I think everybody had a great time. Next time I attend a HearYa session at Shirk's studio I'm bringing more beer though, probably High Life, although Busch Light didn't taste as bad as I remembered it tasting in high school.

If you haven't see The Record Low live, you're missing out!
