[...] I reviewed The Black Angels’ debut album, Passover, last year and mentioned that this is what Grace Slick might sound like if she had a set of testicles. I’m not sure if lead singer Alex Maas would like that description, but I swear I hear a bit of “White Rabbit” in every song. Directions To See A Ghost may seem like a conservative follow up to The Black Angels’ debut, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? The sound is still laden with reverb and fuzz and at first it didn’t smack me in the face like Passover. Passover has knockout tracks like “First Vietnam War” and “Bloodhounds On My Trail” but Directions To See A Ghost is a more complete package from beginning to end.
[...] The five-piece out of Georgia bring forth a great sound that combines some elements of The Black Angels, Nirvana and a bit of that “southern thang.” While I really dig the EP, I have the feeling that, much like The Black Angels, it’s the live show that is really going to be their calling card.
[...] I then met up with HearYa Live Sessions producer, Stephen Shirk, to take in The Black Angels on the Citi stage. We first caught them at SXSW and dug the stoner psych sound. They opened with my favorite tune, Bloodhounds On My Trail and were completely awash in reverb. I couldn’t find a Lolla Performance, but here’s The Black Angels doing Sniper at the Gates of Heaven. [...]

I actually remembered to mention it, but decided to leave out that detail to maintain some credibility. Thanks for ruining it forever.

I still owe Joe a call, now that his cell number is in my 5.

You also forgot to mention that it was at The Black Angels set at sxsw, that you met Joe Simpson.

The Black Angels are great! I think they are playing Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer.

I also forgot to mention that Bloodhounds On My Trail is one of the finer songs I've heard this year.

You also forgot to mention the fantastic Black Mountain cover they did at SXSW.

Another bright spot for me is the blues-infused Bloodhounds on My Trail. I normally don t jump all over albums with … …READ MORE… [...]
