If you like The Magic Numbers and all their harmonizing but wished they rocked just a bit harder, then I have the band for you – The Parson Red Heads. Apparently everybody in Parsons Redheads is related or grew up with each other. If you check their MySpace page, they all have the Parson stage name and for all I know they wear black Nikes and purple shrouds, and you know what? I could care less. This is a phenomenal album that really showcases the California folk scene.
Evan Way is the lead Parson and has a wonderful voice that would fit in well on any 60′s compilation. Surrounded by the 4 piece harmonies and fantastic backing band, it will have you thinking of Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Byrds and other 60′s psychedelic folk acts. With each spin I find little nuances that make me enjoy it more than the previous listen.
For me, the best song on the disc is hands down, “Forever.” Other stand-out tracks include “Full Moon,” “Mossback” & “Punctual As Usual.”
Fire them up and let the warm, soulful sounds put a smile on your face.

After I wrote this, I found out they wear all-white on stage instead of all black. No confirmation on the Nikes as of yet. I was also listening to ‘Forever’ again and that is slowly becoming one of favorite tracks of the year.
Wow. Ironically, I DID wish that the Magic Numbers rocked harder, so this is quite rad Woody. Good catch, but how did you hear about them?
I think it was one of those links that said if you like so-and-so band, then you will really like The Parson Red Heads. Checked out the myspace page and here we stand.
Thanks for the nice review, Woody!

I wondered what the hell the black nikes comment was all about.
Woody, if you think they sound good on King Giraffe, you should really see them live. Their harmonies are even sweeter in person. I’ve seen them twice in the LA area and they are fantastic!!!!!!!!!
if natalie portman thinks the shins will change your life, then these guys will change the galaxy. this is the record that wincing the night away wished it was. nice find woodman. i do dig it. i also hear some vintage squeeze resonating in there. but maybe it’s just me. i dig forever, but have to give a strong recco to mossback. these guys are only worth your time if you like music.
