[...] They have an easy-going rootsy alt-country sound that befits their hometown. I’m reminded of Mofro and HearYa favorite Four Year Bender. Influences from the late 70’s abound on Stay With Me. “Castles Fall” is a sweet rocker that Simone Felice had a hand in writing and Bernstein kicks out a nice solo, reminiscent of Rick Danko. The opener, “Crawl,” is one of the most aptly named tunes I have run across in quite some time with a slow, swampy blues-boogie that more or less guarantees that you are going to enjoy the 40 minute effort.
[...] Band of Heathens are an Austin, Texas outfit that’s sure to please any fan of The Band and most of you Drive-By Truckers folks. If you were reading and listening in the old days when we wrote about Four Year Bender, assuming you liked what you heard, then Band of Heathens is absolutely perfect for you. The Heathens trade off vocal duties to play songs laced with harmony and soul. Their debut self-titles album is out today. [...]

[...] Absolutely right. Unlike some bands that only fit certain moods, The Shaky Hands feel good all the time. The album’s happy-go-lucky vibe reminds me of Four Year Bender’s Lucky. Not so much in the sound, but that I always seem to reach for it, no matter my mood. (Side note - Listening to The Sword while feeding infant twins will not make your wife happy). [...]
