The best surprise at SXSW 2007 was seeing Pete Townshend. We went to La Zona Rosa on Thursday night to see Elvis Perkins and The Cold War Kids and right when we walked in the door, Pete Townshend strolled on stage for an acoustic set. The picture I took was really dark, but I found this clip on YouTube that does one better.
As you can tell, I’m still waiting on pictures from our last day at SXSW. I’ll have that recap up tonight or tomorrow morning.

Awesome! He sounds so good acoustic…
Thank you for the post, oz
Definitely one of the highlights down there was stumbling across Townshend. I grew up listening to him and to see him in such a setting was well worth the trip down there.
I wrote this Poem for Pete,after I watched the video,hope its ok;
How subtle is that smile?
Did your lover leave you
I looked into your face,
Always studied,a rouge.
I heard overture from Tommy like a river of horses,
All in your way.
As you strummed and sang,
I could hear John’s french horns in a procession
like one after the other as if a climatic sparrow shinning black,silver.
Arranged the overtures middle to end,
In that your windmill’s were complicated
but done with heaven by side.
The video ended…../End
