If "A Ghost is Born" was the logical (and underrated) follow-up to the immensely popular, well-loved and well-respected "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot", "Sky Blue Sky" is what the Eagles would sound like if the band was ever to reunite (indulge me and let's pretend "Hell Freezes Over" ever existed and we never heard all of the "Hotel California" unplugged versions).

I can be ok with the sound of AM radio music... There were wicked guitar solos in the first few tracks, notably in "You Are My Face" and "Impossible Germany". "No" pun intended but when "Please Be Patient With Me" ended, I was already two songs bored: a frakking waste of a Wilco album.

And I am a long time fan...

Dare I say that this is Wilco's "prettiest album?" If you're one of those people who just love Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, and all things that they do, you will love this album. People who love Wilco for a specific element that they bring forth in their music, might have a more difficult time getting into this album. It's not experimental or genre-defying...just good songs, with nice songwriting and great guitar solos. Definitely some classic Wilco qualities floating 'round it.

I'm excited to hear Wilco return to more traditional song stuctures. Though Wilco certainly are one of the more creative, experimental bands out there, they also have a deft touch with traditional song writing. To say that Wilco has to push boundaries every time they record a new album is to deny all of us the simple pleasure of a great band making great music that is immediate and joyful.

These track are great.

And, "Yeah..." on that Randy Newman business. Burn on, big river...

So far I am enjoying what I hear. I always find Wilco discs take a few spins in their entirety to fully wrap my head around. To judge the whole disc on a couple of leaked tracks is kind of silly.

Long live Randy Newman!!!
