The Indestructible Scott H. Biram at SXSW 2007

Scott H. Biram
I was introduced to Scott H. Biram’s music a few years back from a co-worker that was born and raised in Austin. When you hear his sound, you’re never quite sure whether it’s blues, country, metal, or punk. The sound, like the artist, is crazy. I should have added him to our Top 15 Mustaches in Rock History post, because his is incredible.

His bio on Bloodshot Records is superb. My favorite snippets:

“Scott H. Biram won’t die. On May 11th, 2003, one month after being hit head-on by an 18-wheeler at 75 MPH, he took the stage at The Continental Club in Austin, TX in a wheel chair–I.V. still dangling from his arm. With 2 broken legs, a broken foot, a broken arm and 1 foot less of his lower intestine, Biram unleashed his trademark musical wrath.”

“When Scott H. Biram took the stage at his 2004 SXSW festival showcase right after Kris Kristofferson he was quoted as growling “They said that was a hard act to follow… I’m a hard act to follow, motherfuckers!!” The stunned crowd looked on.”

He’s an acquired taste for some. I’m really upset that I don’t land in Austin until Midnight on Wednesday for SXSW, because I’ll miss seeing him live. He performs Wednesday, March 14 at the Continental Club. If anyone knows of a time and place where Biram might pick up a guitar again that weekend, please let me know.

Nothing to add except for the fact that I love this crazy bastard. One of the best releases of 2006 to not make my top ten.
