Hit Parader’s Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time

by oz on December 4, 2006

Bon Scott

I’m not much of a metal guy these days, but I dabbled in high school. I heard about this list on the radio this morning and had to look it up. It’s bound for controversy. Freddy Mercury at #6? Scott Stapp and Fred Durst made the list but Billy Corgan didn’t? ROD STEWART AGAIN!!! This guy is haunting me lately.

I’ll further assume that punk bands are not included, since Joey Ramone didn’t make the cut.

Kinda shocked that Maynard James Keenan is below Paul Stanley…

2 Woody 12.04.06 at 7:13 pm

You can’t really expect me to take this list seriously without Lita Ford and Glen Danizg when it has Ann Wilson and Steve Perry. Why even put the list together?

And I must have missed the memo annoucning Mick Jagger’s entrance into the metal scene.

THIS LIST SUCKS!!!

3 oz 12.04.06 at 7:52 pm

If this publication’s target audience is hard core metal fans, they’ve lost all credibility. I take that back. We’re not hard core metal fans and they’ve still lost all credibility.

The inclusion of Rod Stewart is classic. Anyone ever pay attention to the lyrics to “Tonight’s the Night”? It’s truly my favorite guilty pleasure song of all time because of the feeling Rod sings with coupled with his creepy lyrics. Makes me laugh every time. My favorite passage from the song is as follows:

C’mon angel my hearts on fire
Don’t deny your man’s desire
You’d be a fool to stop this tide
Spread your wings and let me come inside

He goes on to sing of a virgin child. Things get strange from there. My favorite death metal singer of all time was this guy I knew in high school. He should crack the top 10 of this list. His name was Pat Fisher, and he started a two man band called “Troll.” He screamed and his buddy wailed on guitar while seated in a folding chair. Their best song was called “Deathwar”. I still remember the lyrics:

Kill your mom
Eat your dog
Deathwar
Deathwar

Thanks for the comment. Nice review of the Crane Wife. You are right, by far the weakest song is “When the War Came”. Meanwhile a song like Yankee Bayonet, which often makes my head hurt (female dual vocalist, “oh oh oh” repeated ect), I love in this case. The album has several songs that just knock your socks off (”Oh Valencia”, All 3 “Crane Wife”s, “The Perfect Crime”) and pretty much the whole album is solid, with the exception of the song above and maybe “The Shankill Butchers”, which I like because I am Irish and have been to Belfast. Thanks again.

6 Joe 12.06.06 at 1:33 pm

Look a little closer at the list. Phil Anselmo is listed at #37.

7 oz 12.06.06 at 1:38 pm

Good catch Joe. Rod Stewart clouded my vision.

8 Scotty Checkbooks 12.06.06 at 2:08 pm

Halford should be #1 and from there you pretty much got it all wrong – GREAT JOB, SHIT PARADER! You also left me off the list – WOLVES OF FLATBUSH

9 de 12.06.06 at 3:05 pm

IAN ASTBURY 90? should be top 15

10 Whoa 12.07.06 at 8:34 pm

Danzig did not make it into the list ? Hahahaha you guys are a joke!

11 Mike 12.08.06 at 2:23 pm

I was really surprised to see so many front men off this list. It’s shocking really! But I am glad to see a few notable mentions like Anthony Kiedis, one of my favorites for sure. The Chili Peppers are a legendary band no doubt about it! And Kiedis has definitely written some great lyrics in the past. Anthony Kiedis’s band, The Red Hot Chill Peppers are nominated for a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Group. You can vote for them at http://www.pcavote.com Hurry voting ends tomorrow (Saturday) at midnight! I was able to vote the first day the nominees were out because I work with the People’s Choice Community.

12 Mark 12.10.06 at 4:05 pm

The reason Corgan and Ramone aren’t on the list. Hmmm… I wouldn’t call either a “Metal vocalist”. But, looking at the list I see a lot of vocalists that aren’t “metal.” Journey? Queen?
Hmmm. Why not throw Dennis DeYoung on the list too, while you’re at it? Or Elton John?
Jeeez. Some idiot editor said “we need 100 on the list to carry the story!!” “Um.. but chief…” said an associate editor, “there are not really 100 metal vocalists worthy of any particular note.”
“Bullshit” said the Chief editor. “What about Rod Stewart? What about that one guy from CREED, what’s his name?”
The associate backed away sheepishly, “Um, sure chief, you’re right!”
They threw a bunch of discount rock CDs into a bin and picked em out one by one. “OK, everybody, um, number 11. Um… who is the lead vocalist of the band “Axl Rose?”
Gotta love Shit Parader. Gotta love “lists,” boring, valueless yet strangely compelling and controversial. The only list I have enjoyed reading this year was “The Five Worst Presidents of all time (2006 Revision).”

13 mark brown 12.18.06 at 9:00 am

If you want to vote for your fav band, guitarists, basss player singer and drummer go to http://www.clik.to/rockgods you can vote there untill next september so anyone thats not on this list can be put on the rock gods list

14 Kelly Kalynchuk 12.27.06 at 8:56 pm

You might as well put my name up there above Rod Stewart, I can belt louder then him. I thouhgt it said METAL vocalist. I Guess some people just don’t understand. Rod was never in this class. Placing him ahead of people like Jimi Hendrix is an out right insult.

Just my thouhgts, like em or not you got them..

15 Prabhu 12.30.06 at 10:18 pm

Lamest List Ever \\mm// :p

Mike (KISS MY ASS) Shinoda ? Amy Lee ? Fred Durst ? Wes Scantlin ?? Eh ?

Sammy Hagar over David Lee Roth ? If people like Rod Stewart and Jon Bon Jovi have been included, then Bono and Jeff Buckley should be up there too. There’s a lame ass wannabe called Scott Weiland, but there’s no Billy Corgan. There’s Scott Strapp and Josey Scott (I think he’s the SALIVA guy)… But no Joey Belladona or John Bush.

I have no words for this… The list is utter blasphemy. :o

16 Prabhu 12.30.06 at 10:21 pm

BLASPHEMY !! :P

17 are you kidding 12.31.06 at 12:43 am

Fred Durst????? are you kidding!!!!!!!!! when did his poppy rendition of rap ever fall under the same category of music as metal. Dave Mustaine is much better at metal then Durst. And If your going to Insult Hendrix by putting him on a list he shouldn’t even be on, at least place above the people that can’t write….I.E Fred Durst!!!!!!!!!

18 zack 01.01.07 at 5:50 pm

there are definitely more problems with the list than things that are actually right. its good to see bruce dickinson and robert plant (yes led zeppelin is metal, for those of you who disgree, its called traditional metal such as black sabbath and ozzy osbourne and led zeppelin)9 hes got a hell of a voice). whoever made the list must have forgotten that sammy hager was the POP singer and that david lee roth was the metal singer. and also overlooked the fact that rob zomber and marylin manson both suck. tell me why chris barnes is not on here, please, hes THE master of the death grunt. at least james hetfield and kurt cobain are on here. WHY IS FREDDIE MERCURY ON HERE?!?!?! so he can sing, but the only metal song queen has is stone cold crazy, and it was barely even metal! theres still more thats wrong withe the ist

19 meshel 01.01.07 at 8:19 pm

WHY the hell is hit parder obssesed with led zepplin soooo much, top guitarist, top drummer, top vocalist, near top song, it must have hurt like hell for them to give led zepplin the third best album!!
first off their hardly metal, more like classic rock at best and heavist, DAMMIT FUCK zepplin, robert plant at absoult best he’s 11 or 12 best. serouisly though the band good iam not denning that, but their NOT the best or even close and the writers are deffinily obssesed with the band!

Other than that the maggzine is sweet, but serouisly zepplin is soo over rated, the band should have just became prechers for all I care, it’s all they talk about “how every one should be saved”
,its time some one but these imparsement to metal in their place.

As for the rest that are rated I think both trent, manson, hetfeild, sully, rose, and maybe simmons should have got higher in the top vocalist, as for ozzy, durst, halford and ofcourse plant should have gotten lower in scale.

20 VomitFromTheEyes 01.02.07 at 7:05 am

Phil Anselmo, James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, Robert Plant, Lemmy, Dio, Halford, Dickonson, Ozzy etc are the only ones that matter on this list. Serj Tankian, John Davis etc etc are pathetic ‘metal’ vocalists and to have them above some of the greatest metal front men of all time is just complete and utter stupidity.

21 Bob 01.07.07 at 9:12 pm

No Randy Jackson (Zebra) !! You got to be kidding !!

22 Federico 01.09.07 at 11:38 am

It´s very simple, Hit Parader have never, ever, listened a Heavy Metal band in their whole life, and don´t know what HM is. Zep, Aerosmtih, GN´R… all grate bands, but I don´t know if call them HM… Nirvana, soundgarden, Korn… well they sound hard, but Heavy metal it´s not sound hard, it´s a musical genre with characteristics you can´t find on that bands. Definitively Queen (I love that band), hendrix David Bowie, bands respected by many HM musicians, are not even close of HM. Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger… i hope that might be a jocke… people who writes in a music magazine can´t be as ignorant as it seems… or they can?

23 Drew 01.17.07 at 7:46 am

Yeah, I agree. Half of these bands aren’t really metal at all. Like I love Hendrix but his music is Psychedelic and Blues, not metal in the slightest. Hard music doesn’t denote metal. And some true metal vocalists, Sully Erna for example (whose autobiography is phenomenal BTW. A great read. picked it up at thepathswechoose.com ) get pushed down past some rock vocalists, who are great in their own right but not metal.

24 dave jones 01.24.07 at 7:16 am

this list is a complete joke. david bowie, rod stewart !!!! not even rock, never mind METAL. i don’t suppose you lot have ever heard of one Noddy Holder – vocalist with UK band SLADE ???? if you haven’t, i suggest you get some and have a listen ! no-one on this list could touch him for power, melody and sheer talent. The list(just)includes kevin dubrow – quiet riot made their best money trying to cover Slade !!

25 Neville Holder 01.24.07 at 7:39 am

Where are Jimmy Lea and Dave Hill of Slade on this List?

The ever best metallic singers in the world!!

26 Rodolfo 01.24.07 at 7:56 pm

Me hacen reir David Coverdale en el puesto 54?

Es el numero 1 sin DUDAS

27 Woody 01.25.07 at 11:58 am

Bob,

The fact that you mentioned Zebra has made my day and also means that you are most likely from Long Island. Memories of my youth.

28 Rodolfo 01.25.07 at 5:03 pm

Estan todos sordos?

29 MetalGnome 01.31.07 at 8:52 pm

I can’t believe Jonathan Davis from Korn beat all of these other metal gods. This list is bullshit!

30 sandblaster1 02.09.07 at 11:45 pm

Heavy Metal suck guys, get over it. It’s all the same, “Christ sucks, the prince of darkness awaits, eat babies” blah blah blah.. Who should be #1 then? That’s right, no one listens to metal therefore no one knows any vocalists. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever. Any rock song can be traced back to them. Great lyrics, music, and not to mention great vocalist. Maynard Keenan sings about as good as he looks by the way..complete garbage. Great list, a lot of unique and powerful voices, and that’s what it’s about the vocals. Shit, Steve Perry sings better than half the guys on the list, regardless of the genre of music. It’s about vocal range and clarity. Cornell rocks, only and handful can even touch him.

31 John 02.12.07 at 4:13 pm

FYI, Freddy Mercury comes in first on a similar ranking on rankopedia.

32 Kascha Klaussen 02.12.07 at 4:31 pm

The fact that Jon Bon Jovi and Joe Elliot are even ON this list makes the whole thing ass. That’s all there is to it.

If you’re going to mention female vocalists, but exclude both Lita Ford and Janet Gardner, the list instantaneously becomes ass. That’s all there is to it. You can’t even salvage it by putting on Anne Wilson, as awesome as she is. And BTW, since you keep on mixing genres and still trying to call them metal, where is Chrissy Hynde and Janis Joplin?

The list is ass. Fat, unwiped, pock-marked and pimpled. That’s ALL there is to it.

33 Nadia 02.17.07 at 2:10 pm

This is funny. Half the people up there aren’t even metal vocalists. And any list of “Top-Somethings” that has FRED DURST ABOVE JIMI HENDRIX has GOT TO suck. I don’t care about any other vocalist’s placement on that list, but I’ll be damned if I have to believe that Durst is better at anything than Jimi Hendrix. (or anyone else on that list, for that matter). Hilarious.
Rod Stewart
Bon Jovi
Kurt Cobain
… metal? They’re kidding right?

Yeah they probably are. What a waste of already-poorly-fuctioning brain cells.

34 Dani Filth 02.18.07 at 4:52 am

This Is not true i’m No.1!!

35 oz 02.18.07 at 6:15 pm

The common complaint throughout this thread is Rod Stewart’s inclusion. I guess he was in The Faces and led Jeff Beck’s band at one point in time, but still…neither were Metal. There’s just no defending Rod Stewart, especially given his music contributions since the 80’s.

36 bryant 02.19.07 at 7:18 pm

This is aint metal!
The top 5 rocks! I believe so.

37 steve 02.27.07 at 12:30 pm

Ann Wilson should have been in the TOP 10.

38 TheHeavyMetalGod 03.01.07 at 5:53 pm

The sign of credibility for these singer lists is simply Kurt Cobian… If he is on the list at all the credibility of the List has gone out the window… Now if he is number 20 on a list of 100 way above Sebastian Bach, then you should know that this list is retarded’ly ridiculous… cmon? number 20? i would believe that if this list was titiled “Best Singers that killed themselves after a career of Mumbling words”… If Kurt Cobain made this list at Number 20 then Ice T should have been number 3 for Cop Killa…

39 Itallionstallion 03.02.07 at 6:17 am

This list SUCKS MAJOR BALLS!! Even if this list was abt. great voices, how in freakin’ hell can Kurt Cobain/Jon bon Jovi be way above THE MIGHTY SEBASTIAN BAZ!!! I mean, think abt. it — at one point of time during his peak years Bach was being considered to be THE BEST FREAKIN’ METAL VOCALIST EVER!!! The BAZ cud sing anythin’ and at any pitch and scale!! He’s half a muscle shy of bein’ GOD!!! Can’t ever forget his rendition of Monkey Business on Mtv Headbanger’s Ball!! Totally agree wid u TheHeavyMetalGod — this list has got no credibility. And fred durst above Jimi hendrix??? HOLY SHITPANTS!! WHAT THE F*#K?? I feel like cuttin’ of my balls — i mean, just what in the blue hell is that??

40 Sunshine 03.02.07 at 9:12 pm

First of all, VomitFromTheEyes is insane. Serj Tankian is the greatest metal singer of all time. And how is Sammy Hagar higher on the list than David Lee Roth and Serj Tankian? Sammy Hagar is the worst thing to ever happen to Van Hallen! And how is Mick Jagger higher on the list than Tankian and Roth? The Rolling Stones are just Beatles wannabes. This list sucks donkey balls, and you suck my ballVomtFromTheEyes!

41 mrscorps 03.14.07 at 1:45 am

If there is any vocalist out there who have played and travelled from all corners of the world like russia, japan, brazil, U.S, Middle east and almost all european nations, and asia pacific, then he will be on the top of the list. Obviously there’s only one, and still continue to rock the heavy metal scene for more than 3 decades and that is klaus meine of scorpions. How can u say ur guy really rocks when nobody knows him from the different side of the world. He may be famous in U.S. or in U.K but not from other part of the world. Is your fave rock vocalist have perform in russia? Ur favorite may have a very loud scream but not loud enough to be heard in asia, europe and middle east. Klaus Meine should be number 1.

42 THIS IS AN UTTER DISGRACE 03.21.07 at 4:19 pm

this list is blasphemy. these lists are nothing more then opinon but this doesnt give anyone the right to be a retard

43 bob 03.22.07 at 10:28 pm

heres to chris cornell, he should be top, just go and listen to beyond the wheel

44 Damian 03.23.07 at 4:54 pm

Yeah there was a lot of problems with this list. Some people here can’t even be classified as metal. ALthough other than that it was pretty good.

45 Stealth 03.23.07 at 11:04 pm

This list was pretty accurate…. kinda. I mean Fred Durst and such are on here, but where’s Mike Matijevic from Steelheart? Alot of the names I don’t argue with bein on here… but I do have a problem with their placement. I mean Ray Gillen is at the bottom? after Kevin Dubrow??

46 jake 03.24.07 at 4:27 pm

James hetfield should of placed higher

47 andrew 03.29.07 at 6:36 pm

Glenn Danzig should be on the list, he is top ten to me sounds a lot like jim morrison my top ten
1. Freddie Mercury (best vocalist to ever walk this earth)
2. Rob Halford (the reason why I listen to metal)
3. Geoff Tate
4. Chris Cornell
5. Robert Plant
6. Bruce Dickinson
7. Paul Rodgers
8. Ronnie James Dio
9. Glenn Danzig
10. Steven Tyler
Kurt Cobain shouldn’t even be on that list, he is a great song writer but not a great singer or guitar, I have been playing guitar for 3 months and already learned Heart Shape Box it is so easy. With people like Ozzy and Hetfield and Hager and Cobain and Simmons so high on this list Hit Parader added the aspect of being a great frontman in this, Ozzy is a great frontman but not a great singer. When making list like this one can be a little bias with me saying Rob Halford is number 2 and others would say Plant or Dio is better than him but they are all great and can’t go wrong with any answer as long as the best are group together and are near the top, but Hit Parader has got most of this wrong.

48 BlackSoul 04.04.07 at 12:37 am

trure james Hetfield should be on top of the list…and where is crestina sccabia how is she thown down there nd scott stap should be higher…last …rap metal suckss dude though linkinpark presented it well lim bizkite suck big time…….well the list is very bad as a general conclusion.

49 ItallionStallion 04.05.07 at 3:58 am

What the UNHOLY FUCK!! What is wrong with u ppl?? Sebastian Bach beat Rob Halford black ‘n blue in a vocal duel long time back. Rob just cudn’t keep up with Baz’s range and depth. No one in this world can match Bach’s Death scream, apart from Dani Filth maybe. And I’m the only one here who saw Bach’s heavenly classical vocal performance on Broadway in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He can sing absolutely anything!! He’s easily the #1 on any list in this planet.

50 Oliveira 04.06.07 at 3:25 pm

WTF?? DAVID BOWIE?????????????????? LOL

why is Corey Taylor in 86?

why is James Hetfield in 24?

what´s David bowie doing there?

I thought it was metal vocalists…

51 Oliveira 04.06.07 at 3:33 pm

Kurt cobain wasnt a good singer………..?

52 Oliveira 04.06.07 at 3:37 pm

well this is more like the 100 metal vocalists..not heavy metal vocalists..

53 Oliveira 04.06.07 at 3:40 pm

so Korn and Guns are available

54 Joe 04.06.07 at 5:23 pm

55 Cleve Steme 04.06.07 at 6:18 pm

Wheres James LaBrie?
Ian Gillian way down at #43?
David Coverdale below Marylin Manson and Rob Zombie?
I thought the list is “Vocalist”
WTF?
Somebody gets paid to create this bullsh*t waste of thought?
WTF?

56 Giorgos 04.10.07 at 8:23 am

As many of the fellow readers commented..the list sucks..

57 jon 04.13.07 at 6:48 am

jonathan davis, david draiman, alice cooper, brian johnson
They should be top 4, not necessarily on that order.
Best voices for metal, that doesnt mean they can sing… metal voices aren’t meant to be melodic.

58 stanley 04.16.07 at 1:16 pm

the best vocal of the heavy metal is michael kiske,,,and i thing that marilin mansons is not one vocal this list is bad …very bad

59 Todd 04.17.07 at 2:38 am

Bruce Dickinson for number one!!!!!!

60 Dylan 04.19.07 at 8:07 pm

It pisses me off that there are vocalists on there that sound exactly the same when they sing. Voices should be judge by uniqueness, not by how loud or long they can go, If you want to hear that then we should all just eat heaps and get FAT. Im a big fan of KoRn and agree that JohnDavis is well placed, but Tool’s James Maynard has an astonishing voice and Im truly dissapointed in his placeing. REDO the whole thing instead of pulling names out of a draw LoL!

61 Dylan 04.20.07 at 8:26 pm

Jonathan Davis ism’t at the top, but he should be…

62 soundaz 04.21.07 at 3:28 am

Kurt Cobain – 20
J. Hetfield – 24

K.C. Is better? ….. Yeah, you guys are amazing ^^

63 Dan 04.21.07 at 7:01 pm

It pains me not to see Mikael Akerfeldt on this list. I think he has one of the greatest voices in all of music, not just metal.

64 SZ 04.25.07 at 9:35 am

Corey taylor MUST be higher! He sings in 2 groups, you should respect that!!!

65 Karsten 04.26.07 at 10:12 pm

This list is a complete joke, not to mention the exclusion of virtually any underground, or even semi-obscure metal vocalists like Tommy Rogers from Between the Buried and Me, Greg Puciato from The Dillinger Escape Plan, and most surprisingly to me Mike Patton. I agree with Sven, whoever made this list doesn’t know shit about metal music, or fucked something up! And what the FUCK is Scott Stapp doing anywhere in an article about Metal? I hang my head in shame…

66 Jake 04.29.07 at 9:04 pm

FRED DURST. Are you kidding me! That is a crime against humanity to put that guy and the word great anywhere near each other. And where the hell is Danzig. Oh well, no reason to get worked up over idiots who know nothin about metal.

PHIL ANSELMO IS GOOD

67 culo 05.02.07 at 5:06 pm

como ponen a freddie mercury en cantante de metal idiotas???rod stewart???anda a cagar

68 Mishal 05.10.07 at 4:41 am

ALL HAIL BRUCE DICKINSON

69 Yeah right and Elvis is metal too 05.15.07 at 8:58 pm

Because I know what I am talking about.

70 Elvis was Rock not metal! 05.18.07 at 6:11 am

Your all bullshit!

71 Holymavros 05.25.07 at 4:13 am

01. Robert Plant (Definitely not metal and the most OVERRATED singer EVER)
02. Rob Halford (OK he is gay. but he rocks)
03. Steven Tyler (Obviously not metal)
04. Chris Cornell (Who??)
05. Bon Scott (Hard Rock, like him a lot)
06. Freddie Mercury (Metal vocalist? yeah right)
07. Bruce Dickinson (Be well my friend)
08. Ozzy Osbourne (The biggest clown ever-can’t definitely sing)
09. Paul Rodgers (No comment)

10. Ronnie James Dio (THE VOICE OF METAL, the one and only The Man on the Silver Mountain)

We know that you are the best and also all these clowns that make those lists for metal vocalists know it, but they do not won’t to admit it my friend. Lets see if anyone of the top 10 list can sing as well as you sing at your 65 …
Have anyone listened the Live At Hammersmith (Black Sabbath with DIO) ??
The man doesn’t need microphone

About the rest you have an explanation above…..

72 Gaige 06.02.07 at 5:24 pm

ok wait…explain to me how Aaron Lewis is a “metal” singer. Staind is not metal. Hes good but not metal. Chester freaking Bennington, hes nu metal, hes good, but shouldnt be on this list because hes simply not metal. Scott Stapp, oh my god hes GRUNGE, AMY LEE?? shes fricking gothic rock, not metal, although very good (: Ronnie James Dio, i only saw one thing good come outta him, and that was the Killswitch engage remix of his song Holy Diver. Ok, wheres my man Howard Jones? Hes a perfect metal singer, and hes black!! thats freaking awesome!!! Maybe Matt Saunders (Matt Shadows, A7X) if you put Axl Rose on there you better have him there. Jimmy Ryan, hes a great vocalist. How about Matthew Tuck?? he may be british but hes awesome. theres so many more u havent put here. This list sucks.

73 ZROKMIKZI 06.04.07 at 12:12 pm

Uh, Death Metal anyone?

Seriously, this is the worst list i have ever seen, this magazine has obviously never listened to a Metal band in their lives.

King Diamond should be way higher on the list. So should Anselmo, Zombie, Mustaine, and Bach. I noticed there were no Death Metal guys, like Corpsegrinder would be a notable one. This list sucks. No Danzig either, shame. And what about Max Cavalera? He should be on there. Belladonna deserves to be on there too.

83 Freddie(TRue metal FAn) 06.28.07 at 1:14 am

Hey elvis dude…you are retarded…there is alot of metal music…Grunge is a type of metal look the fucking metal tree…andd its not hair metal its glam metal…can be called hair metal but sounds dumb…Fred durst is metal…RAp metal..he isnt very good but is metal…And DIO IS GOD….But ozzy did better in black sabbath….you dont know metal man why even bother coming here??…YOU HAVE NO LIFE….Get the razor blade from your arm and go get a tan…and pick up a guitar…maybe you wont be as emo then…Go listen to some atreyu thats as cose as meta you can get…BUT EMO!!!!!

84 james bobfield 07.02.07 at 1:34 pm

wheres james hetfield on this list?

85 sarah 07.02.07 at 7:26 pm

i think this is a pretty good list. Geoff Tate should be a little higher though. Robert Plant is great at 1. Rod stewart should not be on this list. He is not metal. But the first couple on this list is good.

86 retroactyv 07.03.07 at 6:47 am

First of all, metal here is described slightly more than just one kind of metal. A lot of bands here have been trashed in these comments as not being metal. Correction: they are metal, just a different type.
I don’t agree with the list very much at all, but that’s life. I don’t see how Fred Durst could possibly EVER beat Mike Shinoda in a top ANYTHING, except maybe a top 10,000,000 dickheads list. And for the guy who said Chester Bennington: Who?, and Mike Shinoda: Nu-metal, Make sure you know who it is your trashing, BEFORE you open your mouth.
OK, I know how Zach De la Rocha got there, but best VOCALISTS? Get real, people. Best bands, yeah, but vocalists?
And who tf is Robert Plant?

87 Jesus 07.06.07 at 1:31 pm

where the hell is matt barlow formerly of iced earth. i’d have him in my top 10, if not 5

88 PowerThrashBlack 07.09.07 at 2:00 am

All of sHit Parader’s lists are a written form of stupidity. I wish this magazine was never published, it just makes me angry reading it.
And whoever that “everlasting limpster” poser is, he/she is stupid, leave the hall please; nu-metal is not Metal, it’s just stupid. And how can you be saying that Fred Durst deserves to be on there, to deserve to be on that list, you should 1- be in a Metal band, 2- be a good singer.
sHit Parader obviously don’t realise this, and seem to think that “Metal” is an umbrella term for anything that uses a guitar distortion.

And where are the Power Metal vocalists, they’re some of the best out there, I wanna see Hansi Kursch, Tony Kakko, Eric Adams, Fabio Lione and Matt Barlow up there.

89 Michel Newcomb 07.09.07 at 9:54 pm

I can complain that some of the best metal vocalists of today and yesterday were left off the list (Zack Stevens, Matt Barlow, Roy Kahn, Jorne Lande, Russel Allen, Rob Rock, Tobias Sammet, Andi Deris, Kai Hansen, Fabio Lione, Mike Baker, James LaBrie, Jon Oliva) but I won’t. On their lists for guitarists, bassists, and drummers I could complain about the abscence of some great musicians (Criss Oliva, Roland Grapow, John Myung, Markus Großkopf, Axel Rudi Pell, Alex Skolnick, John Shaffer, Dan Spitz, Hansi Kürsch, Rocky George, or any member of Dragonforce), but I won’t. BUT, anybody who claims to be a metal head can tell the difference between power and thrash. The little top 10 lists peppered throughout the pages called Testament, Slayer, Type O Negative, Life of Agony, Sepultura, Slipknot, Megadeth, Danzig, Fear Factory, and Pantera power metal. WHAT!!!!!!! Thrash and power are two seperate entities that broke away from speed. One is more fast and extreme while the other is more melodic and galloping and Type O Negative, Life of Agony, and Danzig are niether. They also call Testament, Carcass, Napalm Death, Cannible Corpse, Morbid Angel, Lamb of God, Meshuggah, and Exodus black metal. Any idiot can tell the difference between black and death metal if they are true to out music. But of course we shouldn’t expect any thing else from this magazine. I will give credit where it is due: Hit Parader has, in the last few years, been a little less commercial and has given some recognition to good metal. But for crying out loud, when a band fits snuggly into a genre call it by that genre and don’t risk looking stupid by not telling the differce between thrash, power and black metal!!!!!!!!!!!

90 Michel Newcomb 07.09.07 at 10:05 pm

Real quick, after posting my comments I read the comments from retroactyv who actually asked, “Who is Robert Plant?” I don’t know retro’s real name is but he should keep his mouth shut about anything hard rock!!! Imagine being so ignorant about the voice of Led Zeppelin. That kind of question made me read it twice before I would believe that someone would actually ask that!!!!! and to stress my point furthur, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

91 riley 07.10.07 at 1:59 pm

yeah go jonathan davis hes the best!!! i mean what other metal vocalist can be so emotional, heavy, can beep box, scary, dark, and awesome at the same time!!! only JD can.

92 FlyingCougar 07.13.07 at 3:51 am

And what about the unholy metal trio that is MICK JAGGER, ROD STEWART & DAVID BOWIE??? Who else were people voting for? ELVIS? STEVIE WONDER?

93 Angus Young 07.15.07 at 5:56 pm

Dude brian an bon should be number one and two cause were like the coolist band of All-time

AC/DC

94 german fan 07.17.07 at 5:24 am

john davis just place 16 ??
mick jagger in front of him, jut must be crasy, everheard to some fine KoRn Musik like “Alone i Break” or “Thoughtless” or sth…

well btw david drainman (disturbed) got a preatty nice voice too, wonder why he got so low ranked..
and in my eyes fred durst, amy lee ect. are no metal vocalistst, somethin else, but not metal !

95 Hackmk 07.18.07 at 2:51 pm

Yeah Jonathan Davis is the best, Vocal Style good

96 kornFanatic 07.24.07 at 7:37 am

No other rock vocalist can do what Jonathan Davis did, The harsh, soft, slow, heavy, whispers and other voice quality he has. I haven’t seen any vocalist perform like jonathan davis on stage, the way he feel and interprete his music. He is the best vocalist for me ever..

97 Dante 07.24.07 at 10:54 am

Yeah, that guy is right.
Jonathan Davis is awesome and he has different kinds of vocals, he creates some special atmosphere on his concerts and I’m not agree with you old metal fans….yes, I like to listen to Iron Maiden, DREAM THEATRE(truly where is James Labrie?…. even there is that Mike Shinoda…LOL!!!), Judas Priest, etc., but all your problem guys is just that you can’t accept new wave of metal….
Jonathan Davis is the Best!!!

98 Dark Seraphim 07.24.07 at 10:59 am

Oh,yeah!!!Jonathan Davis the Greatest. He’s a true god.

The publisher only forgot to add there 50 cent, Snoop Dog, Bretney Spears.
Hay, men. This list sucks with big half of infamous vocalists.

99 Whitey 07.24.07 at 10:16 pm

Hmm, Shinoda doesnt even sing, oh wait – hes sung two songs. both are definatly NOT metal. But, Chester is good. i dont get why both singers of linkin are in the list, hmm, conspiracy…?

100 N8man 07.24.07 at 11:13 pm

Ok… I have to say that this list is definitely flawed. While singers like Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, and Steve Perry are phenomenal singers, they are not METAL vocalists. This list should be filled with singers like Sebastian Bach and Dio. RAP is not metal!!! In fact rap is not even music. Music is an art form consisting of pitch melody and harmony. Rap singers (if they can be call singers) should not be on this list at all (ehem Durst and Shinoda). On the other side of the spectrum, however, heavy metal SCREAMERS should not be on this list either because like rap, screaming has no melody. I’m not saying HM is not cool, I like to listen to it occasionally. All in all, this is a list for METAL VOCALISTS… for singers that can belt a divine melodic passage that forces listeners to bow. MAKE A NEW LIST!!!!

101 Grover 07.25.07 at 1:29 am

Joe Lynn Turner at 84 is a bit of a concern. If we were talking songwriting, or stage presence maybe i could agree that he’s not outstanding in those areas, but it’s hard to put a guy down in 84th position that is probably one of the best session vocalist to pick up a microphone…. and below Bret Michaels, come on!! are you serious??

102 Jeff 07.25.07 at 2:47 pm

If Robert Plant is #1, then Ann Wilson must be #1a because she sings Robert Plant better than Robert Plant

103 franklouuu 07.26.07 at 3:05 am

Dante, we don’t accept nu metal because it is not music… It is like heavy rap.. it has no melody.. guitars sound like shit

and jonathan isn’t good

104 Davidian 07.26.07 at 11:10 pm

Wth.. where are Rob Flynn from Machine Head and Jesse Leach from killswitch? I mean if Mike Shinoda, the rapper from Linkin Park, who are hardly in any way metal, except for nu-metal during that movement, then why not include these two? Or even mr howard jones? this list is just pathetic really. Yeah, the main real metal vocalists are there, but the majority of this list is highly inaccurate. I mean, Cobain, yeah he was amazing and a real talent, but he was far from a metal vocalist, i mean jeez…

105 daniel 07.27.07 at 2:27 pm

im surprised that no death metal bands are up there, this is a bullshit list. start over with George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher as #1

106 vern 07.27.07 at 8:28 pm

Typ “dont talk to strangers” in google video and listen to the whole song. Thats #1 I rest my case. this list is BS .

107 vern 07.27.07 at 9:00 pm

one other thing. Jonathan Davis is the best of the new guys but dio is master of melody and grind. typ Black Sabbath – Heaven and Hell (Live)
and listen to the first video to see what I mean. for the most part its a matter of tast but some of the names on this list are CRAP.
I would think you would need to be a METAL singer to be on the top 100 metal singers list. But not on this one. I mean wheres garth brooks?

108 vern 07.27.07 at 9:22 pm

had to put this one in. he is 60+ here . lol rock on Dio!
typ Dio – Killing The Dragon . ok Ill leave now. Dio is # 1 to me. Im sure your #1 is good to just make sure he is metal.

here’s a hint ” Mick Jagger, Jon Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, David Bowie
ARE NOT METAL!!

109 UnholyDio 07.28.07 at 6:51 pm

I think people need a hearing and a reality check. Preferences are one thing and as a die hard Sabbath fan, I must refrain from placing Ozzy anywhere near the top 500 let alone in this list. my top ten is as follows:

1. Ronnie James Dio -A.KA. The Man On The Silver Mountain still gettin it done at 65 on tour with Sabbath. Who ever was or is will never be one tenth of what you are Ronnie, enjoy your hard earned immortality.

2. Ian Gillan- Legend and still growing

3. Bruce  Dickinson -Up the Irons!

4. Rob Halford- Alternative life and married to metal

5. Geoff Tate- 19 years ago

6. Glenn Huges- I hate ya but talent is talent

7. Rob Rock- hate him but damn he hits the notes

8. Ray Alder- nuff said

9. King Diamond- write some songs worthy of that throat

10. Pat Boone- at least you tried which makes you more deserving than most on this list.

110 Michel Newcomb 07.30.07 at 6:37 pm

Hey Big Fan. I like Chris’ voice and will agree that he has an amazing voice but you exagerate his worth over Halford. Yea Halford is a queer, although he doesn’t shove it down anyone’s throat, but just because you don’t like someone does not mean you should ignor their talent. I think Alec Baldwin is a stupid twit but I cannot deny his good acting ability, I think Eminem is a human piece of waste, but his ability to “free style” and the fact that he does write his own material cannot be denied (I must add that I hate rap). When judging ones abilities you should put your personal preferences aside and judge them on the merit of their talent. And for the rest of you, may I suggest to stop bitching about what you hate and focus on what you DO like. The fact of the matter is that we all have different tastes and no matter how hard we try we can’t win people over to our side, especially by putting down what they like. The only way to get people to like our music is to praise the quality of it and stop wasting our energy complaining about music that isn’t worth our time. I listen to what I like and ignor what I don’t like.

111 oz 07.30.07 at 8:33 pm

Michel – I’d just like to thank you for putting together a well-thought out comment. This post has sort of run amuck.

I agree that Chris Cornell is non-controversial on the list. I listened to “Outshined” on the way to work the other day and forgot how powerful his voice is and was. He can hit it hard or slow down, like Say Hello to Heaven on Temple of the Dog.

I’m also starting to listen to Jeff Beck’s Truth album to see why Rod Steward could have ever been included.

112 Big Fan 07.30.07 at 11:59 pm

Hey Michel wassup

Yeah I am a bit hard on Halford. I will concede to the fact that he is a good vocalist and I know that Priest was big. REALLY big. However his voice just doesn’t cut it to be that high on this list. But yeah we can leave out the queer business out of the equation. Mercury was one too and I will never deny his voice and accomplishments. Anyway would like to know from you if you think Myles Kennedy, the Alter Bridge vocalist, must be on the list. surely he is a better pick than REod Stewart, Hendrix and Durst. Oh yes, what about Eddie Vedder? Cheers

LMAO hansi kursch should be in the 4th or 3rd place after Dio and Scorpions siger these guys made this list got no idea, just imagine that hansi kursch got loads more clubs than bruce dickinson has and he got the most powerfull thrash metal voice ^o^ trademark of metal and hard rock most of these guys got annoying voices none can make him self hear like 50 peoples not to mention that hansi kursch can sing opera aswell due to his excellent voice

115 Dante 08.06.07 at 12:41 pm

franklouuu,:) if nu metal isn’t music, than heavy metal it is? You isn’t right nu metal is too music, but with another style. As for me, I respect all kinds of music, but love only heavy&power metal, progressive & special style of Korn, as I call it – alternative angry nu metal core. Other bands of nu metal – The Rasmus, HIM…..it’s all piece of shit.

116 shawn 08.07.07 at 2:41 pm

since when is mick jagger metal? This lists seriously need to list frontmen of bands that are metal, not classic rock, i mean for christ sake, hetfield is 24th on the list. SAMMY HAGAR beat the frontman of metallica. Jesus. Anthony keidis? I mean i liek the chili peppers, but a metal vocalist? Who the hell makes these lists.

117 GUZAI 08.08.07 at 11:55 am

Not only Mike Patton doesnt appear on the top 10 – he’s not on the list AT ALL! Like him or not, thats plain stupid.

118 dont mess with metal stick with mainstream crap 08.09.07 at 8:40 am

where’s george “corpsegrinder” fischer the most unhuman vocalist ever? this is pretty stupid for them to try to tap into something they nothing about and make a top 100 vocalists. amy lee is not metal and the only good ones on the list are dani filth and corey taylor and a few others.

119 Kyle Burnat 08.11.07 at 1:10 am

Screw any1 that says that robert plant is the best metal vocalist in the world zepp isnt even close to being metal and fuk anyone who says it. there way to obsessed with led zep jus because everyone else is so learn to accept that it is not metal and never will b give me one metal song from them then ill change my mind it should be ozzy if anything period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

120 Jackass 08.12.07 at 2:11 pm

wait a darn minute this guy says phil anselmo didnt make the list but there he is right up at number 37 maybe it was because it was spelt philip instead of phil that threw this guy off. and we all know DREAM THEATER IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD! and james labrie is the best vocalist you just dont want to admit it yet!

121 Godsmack 08.18.07 at 5:09 pm

Hey wow Godsmack is my favorite band and im glad sully erna is on there. But i cant believe Chad Gray isnt on there, i dont even like their band but i have to admit chad has an incredible voice. this list isnt very good, its not listed by talen. its listed as popularity.

122 Ryan 08.18.07 at 6:59 pm

This is really retarded. Robert Plant? Anybody hear of him anymore?

Corey Taylor is the best singer in metal today, and best of all time.

123 OZZY (not metal??) WTFDYTYA 08.20.07 at 9:13 am

I just had to reply to the idiot who says Ozzy is not Metal in the “Elvis is Metal” list above. Have you ever heard of this little band from Birmingham England called Black Sabbath?? OK, there will always be the question of who was the original metal band and I won’t get into that argument but Sabbath is and always will be part of that conversation. I am not saying Ozzy is a great singer at all… Great Lyricist… Hell yeah!! But saying Sabbath is not Metal is moronic!! Oh well, the same guy said that Phil Anselmo is “Hair Metal” so I can only assume he has no clue. Pantera.. Hair Metal?? You have never heard them obviously. They are with few exceptions the Heaviest of Metal bands ever!! Of course being a child of the 80’s… I have to say its a close race between Halford, Dio and Dickinson. I just had to laugh that Gene Simmons made the list. He has no range at all. I think he would admit that too!! Great Entertainer…Of course!! Yeah, He is a Sellout. Kiss sold out more shows than anyone!! He admits it.

So if you only use the vocal abilities of these singers and use the term “Metal” extremely loosely… Klause Meine should be in the top 5. Scorpions…. Metal?? Probably not, but his range is better than Halford and Dickinson!! I have seen them all multiple times and prefer Priest and Maiden but I have to give credit where credit is due. Of course, I also have to say that Geddy Lee should be in the top 10 if only for his upper range on 2112!!!

124 Jana 08.22.07 at 6:34 am

Well I think this list isn’t any good.
Robert Plant is a good singer … but not as good as Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan!
And where are John Lawton (Uriah Heep, Lucifer’s Friend, Asterix) and David Byron? They must be one of the best vocalists of all time!!! John Lawton even up there with Freddie Mercury.
Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain…they weren’t much of a singers.

You put on Marilyn Manson on the list but not John Lawton. Even if Lucifer’s friend was one of the first metal bands.

You really should listen to more music before you make list like this.

No hard feelings :D .

125 Zaphod 08.22.07 at 12:50 pm

This is more of a “popular” list than skilled list with the exception of the Metal God in the lowly number 2 slot.

What about Ralf Scheepers from Gamma Ray/Primal Fear?

126 JT 08.24.07 at 7:35 pm

Freddy your a retard. If you think Owens isnt good and you dont know who Pepper Keenan is and you think Soundgarden is metal your an idoit. Also if you dont see the talent in Peter Steele and Corey Taylor and then saying Kurt Cobain is metal you should have your balls chopped off.

127 pixie_corpse 08.25.07 at 3:01 am

Since when are Amy Lee, Bon Jovi , Chester Bennington, (and many more from this top) metal vocalists? And there are a lot of very good vocalists who aren’t mentioned at all …. who ever did this top is a complete retard …

128 Doiminic 08.26.07 at 6:36 am

Hey guys why keep on moaning?

make the list irrelevant………. Invent your own

Chris Cornell as to be in the top ten. Just saw him in concert and he is awesome. those pipes are magnificent and not digitally mastered.

129 Inherrent 08.28.07 at 7:10 am

How did  this list published?
Mike Shinoda????????
Rod Stewart???????
and sooooo many more

Ask any of the top metal bands these days who influenced them, HERES A PROMISE:

FREDDIE MERCURY’s name will NEVER be mentioned.

COREY TAILOR: rated worse than Josy Scott? He who has a crappy song with Chad Kruger of all people???

look at the true legends, the people who started, survived and revived metal, and those who carry the metal scene now. Look at the fans, the people who pay to go to shows, who stand in the rain and snow to buy tickets.

I want these people to stand in front of all these genuine people and tell them that Gavin Rossdale of Bush should be on the list.

I could be bias and say:”Wheres Wayne Static?” “Why is serj tankian so high?”

But you have to look at the whole list and laugh. take a metalhead and ask him/her to make a list of the top 100 pop vocalists of all time, and you’ll get a list about as funny as this one.

130 Brad 08.29.07 at 3:50 pm

It’s not even a list of the best 100, it’s more like the first 100 that might come to mind to someone who sucks. There are people on there who are TERRIBLE, and are only there b/c they’re popular, or were at some point.. And a good portion of the people on the list were never in a band that could in any way be considered metal.

131 Typhon 08.29.07 at 8:49 pm

This is the most godawful list of metal singers in the history of the world. Whoever made this needs to go kill themselves. Apparently, you know absolutely nothing about good metal, nor do you understand the criteria by which metal vocalists should be judged.

If you were my friend, we would no longer be friends. In fact, if I knew you, I’d probably kick your ass. You disgust me with your stupidity. This list sucks almost as hard as you must.

132 The Voice Of Reason 09.03.07 at 5:39 am

i didnt go through allthe comments, actually i read none but:

1- ever notice how the number 1 of all “metal” top 100s is led zeppelin member? can you say overrated?

2- ever notice how no one’s ever heard of most of the people on “metal top 100s” ?

3- ever notice how the top 10 is usually composed of people who are now 50-ish years old?

4- last but not least; where the hell is M. Shadows?

133 ISABEL 09.06.07 at 6:02 pm

This list sux so hard
why the hell is Marilyn Manson in front of jimi hendrex?
why is Marilyn Manson even in this list?
Almost all these people are not metal T_T god.

134 HolyWars 09.07.07 at 12:01 pm

Matt Barlow is the epitome of metal. He deserves top 15 (Atleast, he is #1 on mine). The guy has the deep powerful vocals of a metal god, and it has great melody to go with it, plus he can scream louder than most of those guys on the list.

135 Vadim 09.10.07 at 10:26 pm

Sorry, where is Tommy Show of STYX
and Lou Gramm of Foreigner
As for me I prefer it.
With the best regards Vadim Proskurnya of Russia

136 ForsakenHeretic 09.12.07 at 1:30 pm

What the HELL is Corey Taylor doing outside of the Top 5?

137 ForsakenHeretic 09.12.07 at 1:42 pm

And… Why is Dani Filth this low on the list, and where are people like Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, Static X’s Wayne Static, Rammstein’s Till Lindemann, Trivium’s Matt Heafy and Bullet For My Valentine’s Matt Tuck?

138 Ahmindehh 09.12.07 at 6:03 pm

Okay, like. Really. I don’t even know who most of these people are and I know this list sucks ass. Mike Shinoda? Come ON, people! HE’S A RAPPER. MY BROTHER MIGHT AS WELL BE ON HERE. Amy Lee? Lovely voice, but metal? NO. Just, no. List wasn’t even worth reading.

139 Izzy 09.13.07 at 9:24 pm

This rocks!!!

I can’t believe then Serj Tankian is in the 26…
its awesome..!!

140 nime 09.16.07 at 8:28 pm

well…..the list its ok but the order its no so cool

141 Werefetus 09.17.07 at 2:50 am

This list is lame. Rod Stewart? Not metal. Amy Lee? Not metal. Mick Jagger? Not metal. Kurt Cobain? Grunge – pretty much anti-metal. Mike Shinoda? Fred Durst? Both from crappy nu-metal bands that no true metal head listens to. Why is Dani Filth so low? Where the hell is Corpsegrinder? Or Randy Blythe? This list wast made by ignorant middle-aged fools that haven’t the slightest idea what metal is. Robert Plant as #1? I don’t think so. Try Dio.

142 sum1 09.22.07 at 8:10 am

….a shitty list.MOST OF THE SINGERS AREN’t EVEN METAL!!!!!!!

btw where the hell is Alexi Laiho?
Howard Jones?
Joey Belladdona?
ZP Theart?
Gerald Way????(just kidding :P )

143 ForsakenHeretic 09.22.07 at 2:12 pm

Oh, and the user who goes by ‘Yeah right and ELVIS was metal too’ should have his balls chopped off with a hacksaw. You can’t call yourself a person who likes metal, and say ‘Corey Taylor = who?’ Hello, don’t know Slipknot and Stone Sour?

144 Meryovi 09.25.07 at 6:52 am

Ozzy Osbourne number 8 ??
Hell no…

145 rob 09.25.07 at 10:31 pm

as usual the people are all up on led zeps small nuts

146 warpiggy 09.26.07 at 7:38 pm

It is overated and unjustice to put everything top one is Led Zep . As for the metal vocalist : Dio was ,is and still will be the number one , halford , dickinson ian gillan etc surely fair enough to follow .
Bon Scott , Ozzy , Hendrix, Plant or Paul Rodgers etc were legends that create and crafted metals. But don’t mention mick jagger , mercury or rod stewart etc in metal space .

147 discrace to metal 09.27.07 at 3:45 pm

89. Dave Mustaine
thats about the saddest thing on this list
a real metal vocalist on a real metal band is behind mick “not metal” jagger and
the definately not metal rod stewart

148 nuermotherf*cker 09.28.07 at 5:36 pm

un solo latino Tom Araya ke viva Chile ctm

149 angel ARGENTINA 09.30.07 at 10:16 pm

the best vocalist of the world is Chris cornell .

150 Kirk 09.30.07 at 10:29 pm

El mejor vocalista es el de ráfaga… y se olvidaron del Puma Rodríguez…

151 pam 10.01.07 at 4:16 pm

Layne Staley only #27, below Cobain? You’ve got to be kidding me……..Has no one heard Man in the Box?????? Who can belt that out besides Layne?????

152 ou rooie 10.02.07 at 4:25 am

How about this top 5

1. Chris Cornell
2. Dio
3. James Labrie
4. Bruce Dickinson
5. Myles Kennedy

All these guys had not only huge success, but are hugely talented. All possess a huge vocal range [around 4 octaves, Cornell does 5 (smokestack lightning!!)], they USE their range and they all have tremendous power. And most importantly, their voices are good. Anyone beg to differ?

153 warpiggy 10.04.07 at 2:13 am

the list is :
1.Padavona Dio
2.Blody Ozzy
3.Rob Turbolover
4.Bon Hell Ball Scott
5.Water Smokin’ Gillan
6.Mega Mustaine
7.Voodo Hendrix (voodoo chile and War Pig are
the  best metal songs)
8.Paul D’ianno Prodigal Son
9.Coverdale Love hunter
10.Neil Deadman Young
How about Robert Plant ? Too bluesy..
Cobain ? aargh.. overated!! he just s0-so ….

154 ou rooie 10.04.07 at 2:35 am

I just had a look on the list again and to my great surprise I saw there at number 56 (Far too low, but at least he is there) dearly departed Andrew Wood, the Mother Love Bone frontman. A great voice (for those of you interested, take a listen to the above mentioned band) but unfortunately he passed away. Still, he was one of the pioneers of grunge and I’m glad he’s there :)

155 JC 10.07.07 at 3:38 pm

Where is Burton C. Bell?! Come on, fear factory deserve to be on a list like this.

156 Jeff 10.10.07 at 8:35 pm

I bought that magazine and I felt ripped off… theres so much classic rock and grunge in there it hardly qualifies as metal, Kurt Cobain has no place there. And how Amy Lee was rater higher than Christina Scabbia is beyond me..

157 Person 10.12.07 at 8:53 am

To all people who think Led Zeppelin isn’t Metal you are wrong. The term Heavy Metal was around before even Led Zeppelin. And Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath were the first Metal bands, but Zeppelin dates first. Anyway for all those who think Plant shouldn’t be number one: He influenced all growls and screams in Metal, Metal would be just singing and loud guitar without him.

158 METALHEAD 666 10.14.07 at 6:00 am

WAT IS THIS!? KURT COBAIN WASNT A METAL VOCALIST HE WAS GRUNGE AND WERE IS DAVE GROLL AND DAVID BOWIE WAS CLASSIC ROCK AND FREDDIE ASWELL WATS GOING ON!!! AND COREY TAYLOR SHOULD BE HIGHER HES AMAZING AND DANI FILTH HES LIKE GOT THE LARGEST VOCAL RANGE IN METAL TODAY THATS PRETTY FRICKIN GOOD! ISNT IT??? DO U TAKE US FOR DUMBASSES!!!!??? IM GOING!!

159 ArIeL 10.19.07 at 10:43 am

ME ENCANTO… ESTOY MUY CONFORME CON JONATHAN DAVIS QUE ESTA EN EL PUESTO Nº 16 ME DA GUSTO PORQUE EL SI ES VERDADERAMENTE UNA ESTRELLA DEL METAL!!! 163 migueL 10.29.07 at 4:53 pm

HAIL FRED DURST

164 Zoran 11.01.07 at 6:29 am

C’mon…what about Mike Patton from Faith No More…this list is pretty much BS…not because it doesn’t mention some great vocalists but the order is unrealistic

165 Vanessa 11.06.07 at 6:51 pm

Where is Tarja Turunen? >

166 IronJudasDioStratoHammerFireRay 11.09.07 at 12:36 pm

Yes, not all 7 are “heavy” metal, but they are all “metal” and you can’t argue with a list like this..I really hate “New?” shit…I mean metal, and crap like that..
1.) Ronnie James Dio (Dio/Black Sabbath)
2.) Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
3.) Halford (Judas Priest)
4.) Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius)
5.) Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray)
6.) Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire)
7.) Joacim Cans (Hammerfall)

167 Venom 11.16.07 at 5:04 pm

first of all, kai hansen sang with helloween. second, where the hell is Matt Barlow from Iced Earth. this guy kicks ass. really.

168 IronJudasDioStratoHammerFireRay 11.17.07 at 10:26 pm

Kai Hansen is in Gamma Ray idiot..he “sang” with Helloween but formed Gamma Ray in 1988 and is “singing” in Gamma Ray, they just came out with a new album.

169 Bram 11.25.07 at 1:32 pm

I can’t believe this. Jonathan Davis is on 16th place but Chester bennington on 46th? Don’t get me wrong, Jonathan is a great singer, but he is easily beaten by Chester. Also, Fred Durst is included in this list? That just seems wrong. He is even higher than Mike Shinoda

170 Faces 12.03.07 at 9:54 am

Anyone thinking “Rod Stewart???”

Well in case you didn’t know between 1967 and 1969 Rod was in the “Jeff Beck Group.” Their “Truth” album is considered a classic that shaped what was to become heavy metal music of the 70s. Rod was the vocalist and wrote songs with them.

From 1969 to 1975 Rod was with “The Faces.” A hard rock good time band with Ronnie Wood and Kenny Jones. They influenced a ton of Punk Rock bands like The Sex Pistols. Slash once said they were the first “Hair Band.”

Rod’s early solo work was basically accoustic hard rock mix…

So um yeah, that’s why he is on this list.

171 Adam 12.07.07 at 7:30 pm

This list is pure utter rubbish, the blogs defintely made me :D though. Might as well take off James Hetfield and add Michael Bolton with this list.

172 dusty 12.13.07 at 9:48 am

barry manilow?

173 Joel 12.19.07 at 8:53 pm

wow, this list shows how bad people understand metal. if you have james hetfield of metallica sitting at #24 there is something wrong. metallica changed all of metal forever, without them we wouldnt have other great bands such as system of a down.

174 someone 12.19.07 at 9:49 pm

what a shit of listinG HOOOOOORIBLE WHERES THE DEATH, GOTHIC, BLACK FOLK AHHHHHHH SIMPLY SUCKS ARGHHHH

175 Josue Ruiz 12.28.07 at 7:09 pm

whhhaaatttt about Michael Sweet, of Stryper!!!! God forgive us

176 Alex 12.31.07 at 12:55 am

This list is a joke. Half of those people aren’t even METAL vocalist. It’s just another thing trying to get attention and catch the eye of the public. Good job for that Hit Parader, but your list is really bad. Come back after you REALLY listen to metal.

Kai Hansen?
Hansi Kürsch?
Tobias Sammet?
Bruce Dickinson?
Daniel Heiman for crying out loud? That guy was truly amazing. I’ve only heard one person with a better range then this guy and that’s Halford.
Where is Michael Kiske and Andi Deris of Helloween?

Come on, this is no list of metal. This is a sick joke.

177 marco 12.31.07 at 12:38 pm

and MAX CAVALERA OF SEPULTURA?????????????????????????? ACASO NO SE MERECE ESTAR ENTRE LOS MEJORES??????

178 Exeth 01.02.08 at 11:44 am

OK I’m gonna say this any who ever can say what ever they want but…
John Davis number 16???
F-n right
Robert Plant ANYwhere up there???
Nope
Sorry
Steven Tyler number three
That’s cool
Bruce before Ozzy???
No
I’d be fine if it was the other way around maybe…
I think I’m cool w/ James bein 24
Part of me feels he should be higher
Whether or not you like his voice that band’s had more influnce on just about everybody than most other bands I can think of
But at leat’s he’s in teh top 30
Runnin short so I’m gonna get to my main point…
Corey Talyor number 86!?!?!?
BULL S@$T
You gonna put Davis that high
[Which they'd better...]
Corey should be right up there w/ him
This commin from teh kid who’s two fav bands are Slipknot and Korn
But that’s besides teh point
His voice on ALL of Iowa
And ALL of Slipknot
[Especially eyeless...^^]
Should put him up higer that 86
And Vol 3 which proved he can sing stuff like vermilion pt 2…
Damn right I think he should be up w/ Davis…
But what really get’s me…
They put Durts above Taylor…
*Is crushed…*
Class is over now though…
So I’m done
*SLIPKNOT AND KORN FOR LIFE!!!*

but even tho i love linkin park i dont think mike shinoda should be on there either

and corey taylor-86 WTF

184 Voice of reason 01.23.08 at 11:56 pm

I think no one person can compile a top 100 list of anything, cause you will always be biassed. Hit Parader is certainly biassed towards Led Zep (and they are great, I have 4 albums) but letting Zep top every list related to music is too much. If I could add my 2 cents worth to the communal pot of knowledge..

1. Geoff Tait – The vocalist from Queensryche. Huge range, 4 to 5 octaves, great menacing voice, sounds like Bruce Dickenson before Bruce Dickenson did. This guy can hit g6 screams like ducks in a pond, any guy who knows his music would know that that is high.

2. Tony Harnell – TNT frontman. This guy has it all. Huge screams, great tonality, and the ability to convey emotion and feeling towards the listener. All round great, probably the greatest singer from a purely technical point of view. Not my own words by the way, top vocal coaches and athletes Jaime Venderra and Rob Lunte agree with me on this point.

3. Chris Cornell – The big name. No top 10 list can go without this man. Posesses a massive 5 octave range, he hits b5 and g6 class screams with ease, he can sing opera as easily as he does metal. Personally a favourite of mine, however Harnell and Tait wins out when it comes to technique.. Also the question if Cornell is a metal singer. He is certainly a great vocalist. I’ll leave it there. If I hear one more arguement about what metal is and isn’t I’ll shit myself.

4. James Labrie – We all know and love him. Frontman of Dream Theater, this guy is the voice of progressive rock. Does not posess the range of the 3 aforementioned names (he can hit high notes but nothing like Tait or Cornell), but he has great tonality and he sounds great whether Petrucci’s guitar plays alongside or a measily piano.

5. Dio – Dio is the shit!! Forget about range, tonality and technique for one second. No man has ever wrote so many heavy metal defining songs such as this rockgod. The mob rules, gypsy, dream evil, stand up and shout, holy diver.. I dare other 65 year olds to do what he does. Nuff said.

6. Bruce Dickenson – Up the Irons!

7. Ray Alder – Brilliant vocalist from Fates Warning. Hits scary notes, although technically he is not the best and I have doubts about him actually moving a listener. Still, I can’t argue with a great voice.

8. Andrew Wood – Fairly unknown, this guy headed malfunkshin and Mother Love Bone. Died before he could make a big name. Grunge singer, but was no stranger to heavy metal. He has got a terrific and unique voice. Never heard anyone sound like him.

9. Jim Gilette – This guy scares me. posesses a massive 7 octave range, shattered glass without amplification and trained the legendary Jaime Venderra. This guy pulls of a 32 second g6 scream like its nothing. On technique he is unbeatable. No one else can copy him.. But he never wrote anything great. Got no soul. For that reason he does not qualify in my top 5.

10. Myles Kennedy – Alter Bridge. Tremendous voice, great falsetto, huge scream. Also the question can arise whether he is metal or not, I don’t give a shit. Great is great anytime.

Well, thats my humble opinion. Cheers guys

185 Voice of reason 01.24.08 at 12:00 am

One more thought:

*Bo* You may not like Bon Jovi, hell I don’t even like him, but there are pretty few vocalists that can do what he can in terms of playing with range. Rob Halford does not even have Bon Jovi’s range or power, so show a bit of respect next time?

186 Little Pete 01.24.08 at 12:12 am

I know Slade are not exactly metal but neither is Queen or ‘Rockin Rod’ and really neither is AC/DC. So where is Noddy Holder on the list? He was offered Bon Scotts job and knocked it back.

187 Voice of reason 01.24.08 at 4:12 am

Wow. Javad is seriously upset about something..

188 Helloween 01.26.08 at 2:42 pm

Where is Michael Kiske? He’s one of the greatest vocals ever..i didn’t hear a man that can sing like him..

and BTW: THIS LIST SUCKS

189 dbdbsksksk 01.27.08 at 11:25 pm

Maynard James Keenan should be number 1!
and Corey Taylor right below him.

190 Calvin "2x4" Poe 01.29.08 at 9:38 am

david draiman shouldve been in the top ten
and wheres howard jones and mat sanders??
this list  sux

192 Voice of reason 01.30.08 at 12:40 am

Calvin Poe, your childish comments really amused me.. James Hetfield is not worthy of licking Cornell’s shoes. Cornell hits a g6 in smokestack lightning, a b5 in say hello to heaven.. Now I don’t know whether you knowing anything about music but that is insane notes..Hetfield can’t hit those notes even in his dreams. Cornell’s toneality is admired by vocal coaches worldwide. And then you ramble on about metal being pushed aside by mainstream rock? WTF? Metallica is the mainstream. When grunge started (Oh yes, Cornell was there) they were the small indie bands and they fought their way for a place in the sun. There is alot of of names on that list I would contest but I don’t call them fat pigf@$%ers or whatever your twisted mind can come up with. And dude, swearing does not show your intelligence. Nobody goes OMG! he said the f-word! He must be an einstein!! I really look forward to reading a far more adult reply from you, otherwise you can just spare it

193 Rick James 01.30.08 at 12:56 pm

I love that the person who posted the list, listed 3 people not on the list that should be, and actually, 2 out of the 3 were on the list. Way to do your homework…

194 Helloween fan 02.03.08 at 6:36 am

how come this list doesn’t include Michael Kiske is beyond my understanding…

I’d also put there Eric Adams (Manowar)

195 Helloween 02.03.08 at 9:45 am

ANd where is Hansi Krusch(blind guardian)??

196 Gino 02.04.08 at 7:36 pm

Kurt Cobain is ahead of James Hetfield?
WTF!?
Kurt Cobain mumbles every word while James Hetfield voice is amazing especially in his 20s. Also, Mike Shinoda and Fred Durst? They suck, Shinoda sings rap and Fred Durst is a talentless shit. Horrible list.

197 Simon Williams 02.05.08 at 11:44 am

I am assuming that whoever composed this list does not know who either Glenn Danzig or Mike Patton are? The absence of Danzig in particular is nothing short of ridiculous. I would like to see Dax Riggs in this list as well.

198 mel 02.06.08 at 7:52 pm

Sebastian Back at 36? He’s much better than a lot of the people above him – i mean Mick Jagger?!?!?!

199 Voice of reason 02.07.08 at 5:20 am

hehe…Any of you guys remember that T-shirt Bach wore to stage once that got him into alot of shit?

200 Whitesnake 02.10.08 at 9:17 am

Why Coverdale is at n°54????????????????????? Below Marylin Manson!!!!!!! F this list!!!!!!

201 StitchKitten 02.10.08 at 2:23 pm

This list isn’t based on talent its based on popularity =/
I agree with Vanessa,
Where is TARJA?
I don’t even see Simone Simons! =/ I am disappointed with this list.

202 adam 02.10.08 at 10:23 pm

layne staley at 27? haha. these lists are so damn stupid. im suprised that they didnt put eminem on here or something..put layne up in the top 10 for real..right next to cornell..

203 Martin Synan 02.11.08 at 4:07 pm

That is ridiculous Hetfield below Davis? Hetfield basically is the best metal singer ever!!! Davis is good but not better than Hetfield good! Hetfield should be no.1 then the lack of Corey Taylor on the top 10 is also questionable and for the guy who said Davis and Serj are wanna be metal singers you can take that back their both brilliant singers but just not as good as some others! And Kurt Cobain above Hetfield? Kurt can’t sing metal he just mutters. Where is Robb Flynn of Machine Head on the list? And ZP Theart of Dragonforce? And also to make Hetfield even better is that he plays guitar while busting his voice roaring… Also Hetfield basically started the roaring til your voice is gone style in metal. Anyway just thought I’d share my opinions with you guys

204 steven 02.12.08 at 3:24 pm

weres chuck schuldiner from death he should be top 5 he is crazy and tom araya should be top 10 how u have kurt kobine higher then does to guys

205 Keenian 02.15.08 at 8:25 am

Yeha I’m sorry but in my opinion vocalists in rock and or metal are/should be classified by stage presence as well
And how well they can express the emotion of a song
Go listen to Sanitarium by Metallica
Read teh lyrics
Blah blah blah
Then go watch Durst cover that f*ckin song
He tries to hard to make the song something it’s not even f*ckin close to
He tries ta be some kinda f*ckin stud
He gets teh crowd going nicely
But he fuckin ruined teh song
He’s got presence
He knows how to work a crowd
But in all teh vids I’ve seen of that man live he ruins what a song is really about by trying to be some kind of a f*ckin stud or somethin
I’m sorry but no
I can see him being on a list of frontmen or somethin based more soley around stage presence
But not vocalists
The one thing he has don’t make up for what he ruins
Corey Taylor has both…
And an amazing voice I might add
John Davis
Mother f*cker he ain’t afraid to get emotions out
He has presence emotion and a voice
Same w/ James
You may not like his range
But he’s got everything else [and his voice does in fact kick @ss]
And everybody needs to stop saying everything isn’t metal
That’s kind of teh oposite of what it’s about
Least in my opinion
And dude Glen is good but he acts too hard
He got leveled w/ one f*ckin hit after mouthin off an actin big
Teh vids on youtube if you haven’t seen it
So that thing kinda goes w/ teh whole thing about actin to much of a ’stud’
And everybody’s thng w/ Kurt…
I love Nirvana
But I have to agree
He was too reserved on stage almost everytime [least that I've seen] and he don’t do much w/ his voice…
I love Cobain and all
But he should be that high or higher on a list of songwriters
That’s where his talent beasts over almost all others
Not vocalists in general…
=/
And yeah dude Chester from LP should be lots higher
I’m sorry but any mother fucker who can hold a 17 second scream [I think that's what it was maybe longer...] should be a wee bit higher
And Dani
That pisses me off
You want to hear range???
Not to say he’s teh absolute best in that catagory
But fuck man
Sh*t he gets teh crowd goin jus by bein there
He can sing stuff that’s a little softer well [not ballads jus a little softer that's all I'm sayin]
And go watch teh live vid for Chthulu Dawn
There be some range for ya
Ooh and another thing on Durst
[I know right]
His cover of teh Who’s song that I can’t think of teh name of right now
Blows
He f*ckin ruined that one too
And I’m glad somebody mentioned Randy
He’s amazing in every catagory
Ame Lee also tried to make a song what it’s not
Their cover of thoughtless???
It made me fuckin sick
I can sing it better than her [and I'm a bassist... and I can play the bass better I might add...=/]
Class is now over
So before I go I shall say jus one more time…
Zeplin lovers need to get over it
Their fuckin overated…
Peace

rod stewert isn’t metal is he

211 steff 02.17.08 at 3:02 am

I don’t like this list. Maybe its just me. Why is Chrsitina Scabbia there, she’s not that good live imho. Why no Tarja, Sharon, Simone, Liv, Vibeke, etc.? if we are talking about female vocalist. And I’m partially biased because there is no Roy Khan. Hehehe… love Kamelot. Am just sad to see Fred Durst for example, on the list while there are so many deserving singers out there

212 fullana62 02.17.08 at 1:42 pm

wow…this list sucks balls even thought its going to be biased towards someone elses music tastes

*****my top 5 are******

KURT COBAIN IS SHIT

214 Overture 02.18.08 at 6:20 pm

Whoever made that list is complitely an idiot. David coverdale 54°?!?!?!…Ian Gilan 43°?!?!?!…Bruce Diskinson 07°?!?!?!…This is totaly bullshit! Do you know what these guys did or you just know theyr names???!!! And Per Englund of Blacksmith? Have you ever heard how he sings?

I hope you will never do lists like this because you are blowin’ up the entire Rock Music History!!!!

P.S. Does Dani Filth realy know how to sing? Ha ha ha…This is funny.

215 Overture 02.18.08 at 6:35 pm

I can’t stop loughing….Dani Filth a singer!….ha ha ha ha…

No seriously….To set Coverdale, Gilan and Dickinson in those numbers is an idiocy.

And take a listen to Per Englund, I will help you…..Listen to the song “The King Has Lost His Crown” of the band Blacksmith expecialy from the second part of the song till’ the end. Listen carefully to how he can do the “falsetto screaming”.

After listening more brainly to the 3 guys above and Per Englund you will realize that this “Gods” should be in the first top 5 of the list.

Take care of your self and listen a little more of real music…And read a lot. Books will make you more inteligent.

216 bill 02.19.08 at 3:36 am

U LIKE MEN!

217 Eli 02.23.08 at 1:24 am

Here is you lazyasses a list of metal singers to rate put this in your Mag and let some Real Medal heads vote on it . Rod stewart, rolling stone robert I cant sing plant get fukn real

221 Xander 02.29.08 at 10:14 am

Rod Halford at #2?! The Metal God?? Are they serious?!?!?!!? No way Plant is better… Damn….. Also, Tom Araya should be higher. And Fred Durts is on the list, but Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) isn’t?! What a joke….

222 Cal 03.03.08 at 2:59 pm

I have one thing to say about two metal singer’s. First, Hansi Kursch from Blind Guardian should be up there in the top 10-20. Matt Barlow frtom Iced Earth! He should be in the top five, honestly! The list should go something like this to start.

1. Rob Halford
2. Ronnie James Dio
3. Matt Barlow
4. Ozzy Osbourne
5. Hansi Kursch
6. Eric Addams (Manowar)
7. And so on…

That should be the top 7 for metal singers period. A few others would be the guy from Five Finger Death Punch, Johnathan Davis I suppose could fit in the top twenty to thirty. And a few others who’s names and bands I can’t remember.

223 SenorFronz 03.05.08 at 10:15 pm

this list would have made just a little more sense had it been called Top 100 Rock vocalists of All Time. except you know, leave rod stewart out again, hes lame. Because theres good rock vocalists, very good ones, but the metal, ehh not as much

224 Rob 03.07.08 at 4:28 pm

DAVE MUSTAINE!!! #89!!! thats just not right!! justin hawkins is #88!?!?! dave deserves to be up the list!! but why justin…

225 Geistershiff 03.09.08 at 12:31 am

Since we’re going to include pop-metal/glam, why isn’t CJ Snare on the list? Or Jack Russell? Taime Downe? Really!! Kevin DuBrow, so low on the list. I know he didn’t have great range, but he had massive power behind his voice. Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, and Ronnie James Dio are probably the best ever. Lita Ford was absolutely killer, why the absence? Ian Gillian was god. without him, half these people wouldn’t be on this list.

What is with you people and Korn? Please. . . pathetic; James Hetfeild. . .Pathetic.

Don’t try telling me I don’t know anything about Metal; I live by it.

Come ON

226 amaze2n 03.10.08 at 11:51 pm

I understand the disagreement with some of the ratings, but you can’t really have everyone in the place you’d want them to. I’m personally after Chester Bennington… he has a beautiful singing voice, a good raspy voice, and he’s also amazing at screaming, I think he deserves a higher ranking ;) .

I was a little surprised by the inclusion of some of the vocalists as “metal” vocalists. Personally, I don’t think Led Zeppelin (Robert Plant) was a metal band, as well as a few others.

227 jasper 03.14.08 at 9:58 pm

uh, dude, phil and pepper were there at 37 and 73

228 dubz13 03.15.08 at 12:32 am

Fucking no Mike Patton?!?!? = whoever wrote this list knows bullshit. who the fuck is hit parader anyway and y am i on this webpage to start with….

229 Abubakar Awan 03.15.08 at 6:39 am

you have put bon jovi before tip ripper…..you donno nuting abt rock let alone metal….and dio!!!….after man!!….and why is freddie on this list….he wasn’t metal….bon jovi is not metal…..ok!!! get a life

230 Eric 03.15.08 at 1:03 pm

Umm… Tony Kakko? Matt Barlow? Hansi Kursch? Tarja Turunen? Kane? Annette Olzon? Cristina Scabbia? I mean it’s good to see Lemmy and Dickinson and a few others up there, but 90% of this list doesn’t belong!

231 jonny 03.15.08 at 5:27 pm

fuck that, corey taylor should at least be in the 20’s

232 DL 03.19.08 at 6:27 pm

233 Jere__23 03.21.08 at 9:20 pm

People, where this Michael Kiske! That type is a genius, and not even this in the list Hit Parader, DAS disgust!

Helloween of Kiske is the best, Andi Deris, You suck! Absorb This and Die!

234 MoToRSaW 03.24.08 at 11:45 pm

Ray Gillen is dead last? That is a farce. Considering some of the losers ranked above him. Fred Durst? C’mon.Listen to Badlands & Re-think the Ray Gillen ranking. Just my 2!

235 shamic 03.29.08 at 11:46 am

Most of them are rock not metal vocalist….I ‘ld rate Sebastian Bach as teh best

236 ice 03.29.08 at 1:15 pm

Sevendust sucks, What the fuck s this. This list absolutely sucks!!!!! This guy sings with the dick. Fuck’em all!!!

237 Denzel 04.01.08 at 7:17 am

Why the hell is Cobain above Vedder, C’mon Cobain and Nirvana were over rated

238 annon 04.01.08 at 8:29 pm

Freddie Mercury SHOULD BE #1 !!!!
He EASILY beats out Every other vocalist with Steven Tailor at 2… !! also Chester and Mike Shinoda, limp bizcut should be CUT from the list!!!

239 Wargasm 04.07.08 at 8:19 am

I’m sorry, but MTV bands shouldn’t be on the list. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), and King Diamond (King Diamond & Mercyful Fate) should be in the Top 3 in any order.

Freddie Mercury is not a Metal Vocalist, he is by far one of the best vocalists in Rock n’ Roll, but he’s not Metal. Many others on the list are Pop Rock or Alternative Rock. And why on earth is Tom Araya (Slayer) not before Phil Anselmo (Pantera) and James Hettfield (Metallica).

Some others already mentioned Matt Barlow (Iced Earth, Pyramaze) is absent from the list, and yes he returned to Iced Earth in December of 2007. Also missing is Eric Adams of Manowar, Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray) Mille Petrozza (Kreator) and Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian).

It’s depressing to see “Metal” lists filled with names from bands like Slipknot, Korn, Creed, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and various other non-Metal bands.

240 Death 04.08.08 at 1:28 pm

Jonathan Davis is 16.!YES!!!

bill Feb 18th, 2008 at 2:44 am

KURT COBAIN IS SHIT-Fuck you!!!!!!!!!!!!

241 Ashraf 04.10.08 at 1:04 pm

Where’s jim morrison?
Fuck U Meshel!!!!!
U dont know anything about music!!!
Robert Plant n zeppelin are far better than any bands in the world
I really agreed with person comments
Chris cornell great talent as well as freddie mercury
Fred durst, system of a down, marilyn manson are a disgrace of the beauty of metal and hard rock music

242 Luke 04.11.08 at 7:25 am

Agreed, James Maynard Keenan should be on top 10!!!
Beats …Freddie Mercury
…Bruce Dickinson AAAND…
Ozzy Osbourne…

easily……,

Both in skill and maybe as frontman…

And godamn… Give Correy a better position! His voice is amazing… and had been a great frontman in all of his bands!

I wanted to see Jim Morrisson…. :’( :S
Good pos. on Kurt Cobain and Serj!!!

Also makes me sad that artists such as STEVEN WILSON… of porcupine tree are not recognised… shame………

243 BULLY 04.12.08 at 9:09 am

hahaha the list is a fuckin´joke !!! where´s michael kiske ????? the only good thing about that list is halford in number 2…the rest is SHIIITTTT !!!!

244 JRcrash 04.14.08 at 12:00 pm

01 robert plant
02 rob halford
03 Bruce dickinson
04 Perry farrell
05 Freddy Mercury

Im judging these people on thier vocal prowess and raw singing power. These are the best vocalists as far as im concerned.

245 lzp3 04.15.08 at 10:37 am

Okay, there’s a reason Led Zeppelin is the number 1 “Heavy Metal” band of all time. They are heavy metal. Songs such as the Immigrant Song and Black Dog are good examples. BTW Why the hell there no Jimmy Morrison? Also, yah, Robert Plant belongs at the top, so, good job.

246 DSB 04.19.08 at 12:48 am

What the FUCK is wrong with this idiot? If Rod Stewart was heavy metal, he wouldn’t be in the fucking soft rock stations. Go get BENT, if you think Rod Stewart is a Metal Rock artist.

247 AFOH 04.19.08 at 1:23 pm

Though this list has many good points and maintains a pretty good order, it should be entitled “Top 100 Vocalists of Metal & Rock”, and I say this because I saw the vocalists from The Who, The Rolling Stones, and others, but then, with that name change it would need many changes, for instance including John Lennon, and thus it would be quite different to a metal list, and, in practice, the popularity of rock vocalists would overwhelm that of metal vocalists.
Still a nice try to point some good rock vocalists while centering around metal (this is what the list ultimately did).

248 coni 04.20.08 at 9:25 am

i’m fench so excuse me for writting =) (englishmen’rent good in french too:))

yearh ummh for me:

“”ONE”":Bruce Dickinson (for technical, show, popularity and engagement)UP THE IRONS!! fanatic forever

2:Rob Halford (the best metal technical vocal man!!! with “ram in down” or “victim of changes” for example)

3:Ronnie James Dio (HE IS THE METAL by himself not?)

4:Freddie Mercury (for him i’ll said he’s the best showman of history) we miss …

5:Ozzy Osbourne (is the first heavy metal singer (the real hm!))

I do this list with my heart so if is wrong for you, it’ll be real forever for me!

Screeeaaaaamm for me Paris!! (01/07/08 Bercy, bruce dickinson)

249 ANGRY!!! 04.23.08 at 12:24 pm

WHAAAAAAT????????
Layne Staley no27??? I am Disgusted. And Where is Mike Minnik? Jacob Bannon? If Rod Stewart is metal surely these guys are.

250 Keith 04.24.08 at 5:54 am

This list blows my goats.

This shouldn’t even be allowed anywhere near public eyes! I haven’t even heard of half these people! And I know too many metal bands, so half these people have to be in really crappy bands or something!

Corey Taylor is way above Fred Durst. Durst tried to be a rapper, but he’s too white and likes metal. That doesn’t go together. At least Taylor and de la Rocha wanted to be in a metal band and not rap.

But I have to at least agree with #1. But #2 should be Bon Scott. Bon Scott’s hyperhigh voice only contradicts Angus’s deep guitar sounds, which makes him sound perfect.

251 Jacques 04.25.08 at 1:45 am

Keith:

Bon Scott…Hyperhigh voice? What hyperhigh voice? The only high he knows about is drugs. Not musically

252 Mohammed-Ali 04.26.08 at 8:07 pm

The main people should be Chad Gray, Wayne Static, Johnothan Davis, David Draiman, and Corey Taylor

253 Toshana 04.29.08 at 11:51 am

what the hell?? Where is Hansi? Why is Bruce #7? Ripper is #97??? Never in a million years…

254 chris 05.03.08 at 6:52 am

serj tankian should be a lil higher up the list. he can do it all. scream, sing beautifally, put a lot of energy into his shows. one of the biggest legends.

255 Mark 05.08.08 at 8:56 am

Kurt Cobain was not metal, neither was scott weiland, and I don’t that even they would like to be thought of as metal vocalists. Phil Anselmo at 34? what the fuck is wrong with these people? James hetfield didn’t even make it into the top 20! Amy Lee? Scott stapp? FRED DURST? ARE YOU SERIOUS? no, fuck this entire list

256 Mark 05.08.08 at 9:02 am

oh and sunshine, go kill yourself. you misspelled van HALEN. and serj tankian is not metal either, most of the time when he sings it sounds like 5 p.m. in Riyadh, and what’s more his band stole the acronym for stormtroopers of death.

257 Mark 05.08.08 at 9:04 am

and one more thing, this list must have been made up by grungeheads and people who listen to radio-friendly metal, because chuck schuldiner didn’t even make the list, and he might be the best of them all. RIP Father of Death Metal.

258 bullshit 05.08.08 at 2:11 pm

Cobain above Eddie Vedder and Layne staley is BULLSHIT!!!!!!

259 matt 05.13.08 at 3:39 pm

anyone over maynard james keenan is bullshit.

260 Addicted to chaos 05.13.08 at 3:43 pm

Someone please explain to me why Mustaine is down on 89th.. He’s as good a frontman as u’ll ever have.. and his voice is raw metal.. through gritted teeth.. he is the real deal man…

261 ssjlance 05.14.08 at 12:51 am

Ozzy higher than Dio? I think not. Arguably, the Sabbath years with Ozzy had more classics than the Dio years, but purely based on talent, Dio trounces Ozzy.

262 Mark 05.17.08 at 4:58 am

I just looked at the vocalist list to see where Dave Meneketti sat, and he’s not there! The guy might not be the greatest vocalist ever, but he has a damned fine voice, and his omission renders this VERY suspect!

263 Mark 05.18.08 at 6:51 pm

How the hell can you put Gene Simmons in front of Sebastain Bach, that’s the greatest insult ever, bach should be in the top 10.

Halford is the best singer

264 al mauro 05.19.08 at 6:14 pm

Ian Gillian at 43! After Mick Jagger, Paul Stanely, Ozzy! It should Ian Gillian #1, Chris Cornell #2, Dio #3, #4 Paul Rodgers, and Phil Anselmo (Cowboys from Hell) at #5

Rock N Music Review

265 Slayerrocks 05.23.08 at 6:55 am

Matt Barlow from Iced Earth has the best metal voice….. How the fuck all these gays like bon jovi have a better position????

266 gayrod 05.24.08 at 4:50 pm

this shit is gay its a typical list that an old fag would make putting all the gay typical old bands from 1970s and 80s on top list

ozzy ozzbourne? are u fucking kidding me u faggot

fuck off

267 gayrod 05.24.08 at 4:59 pm

#1: Chester Bennington
#2: Pete Loeffler
#3: Maynard Keenan james
#4: Mike Shinoda
#5: Benjamin Burnley
#6: Doug Robb
#7: Brett Scallions
#8: Dave Gahan
#9: Matthew Bellamy
#10: Chris Cornell

rest of the singers in the world suck big time

if you dont agree with me go suck your dads cock

268 theLastinLine 05.25.08 at 1:56 pm

well, to calm things down, i think these guys from hit parader really knew how to piss everyone with a list of musical garbage ON PURPOSE… hey, they would never have dreamed of such outrageous replies all in one page, and believe me, it’s worth the fame :D .
Why not just replace the title word “metal” with “rock”, and half of us would shut their mouths? why not group each metal (or rock) genre on its own? it’s funny to see amy lee followed by dokken, draiman right before Gillain, or better yet, paul rogers between Ozzy & DIO ? Hahahahahaha.. it’s been cooked DELIBERATELY folks… but thanks anyway for helping us release pent-up emotions…

269 Harry 05.28.08 at 2:06 pm

Phil Anselmo IS on the list dude!

270 Keith 05.28.08 at 7:30 pm

Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder should be top ten!!
David Draiman in top 25.
And….most of these guys/girls aren’t even metal.
Ozzy blows. He isn’t very talented.

271 Sammy 05.30.08 at 7:23 am

Paul Stanley,Robert Plant,Bruce Dickinson,James Hetfield,Dave Mustaine,Ozzy Osbourne and Sammy Hagar deserve to be above 10 in this list. You put Chester B. above Dave Mustaine, you must be a retard to put Mike Shinoda in that top of metal vocalist,HE’S A RAPPPPPPPPER a CRAPPPPPER,and Bruce D. deserve to be above that fag Rob Halford. This “list” SUCKSSSSSSSSSS.

272 Jeff 06.01.08 at 5:52 pm

Where’s Wayne Static? This list sucks alot of the singers arent even considered metal theyre considered grunge. Last time I checked grunge and metal are extremely different. Whoever made this list are either retarded or had a serious brain lapse when compiling this list. Im going to say theyre retarded

273 Anonymous 06.02.08 at 2:11 pm

You guys should check out Daniel Gildenlöw from pain of salvation.
I swear he’l make you cry.(in a good way)

Also, Russell Allen from Symphony-X is quite good too :)

274 Kid A 06.02.08 at 11:17 pm

What a fucking joke! LOL

275 zero 06.03.08 at 12:56 pm

thid is shit chester bennington must be 1th and mike shinoda must be 2th THIS LIST SUCKS

276 Headbandger 06.04.08 at 11:50 am

Sammy was metal before Eddie Van Halen wussed him out. There’s only one way to Rock, Heavy Metal etc. WHY IS MIKE SHINODA EVEN ON THIS LIST I DON’T RECALL RAP BEING A FORM OF SINGING LET ALONE METAL! MARILYN MANSON? ARE YOU SHITTING ME? WERE THEY HIGH WHEN THEY MADE THIS LIST OR JUST STUPID? AMY FUCKING (AND FUCKABLE) LEE? FRED DURST OR JONATHAN DAVIS? WHO EVER PUT THEM ON THIS LIST NEEDS TO DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH!!!!!

HEAVY METAL OR NO METAL AT ALL WHIPS AND POSERS LEAVE THE HALL!

277 ogge 06.05.08 at 9:41 am

kinda weird that rod stewart is on the list since he really isn´t metal, i think that
they should add anders friden to the list since he is probably the best death metal singer.

278 Chris 06.09.08 at 1:13 am

Chester Benningtong MUST be higher!!!!!! I mean, when a guy can scream for 18 sec. you have to put them high!

279 Chris 06.09.08 at 1:14 am

Chester should be #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

280 Maggot 4 Life 06.10.08 at 9:29 am

What the hell!

This list is non-sense
half these vocalists don’t even fuking sing METAL….
The damn list is top 100 HEAVY METAL vocalists
not everyone put the singer from their fav band list..
Kurt Cobain? yea I love Nirvana but they basicly created the whole grunge rock genre NOT METAL
How about some there be some “better” singers higheror even on the list

Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour)
Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth)
Glen Danzig (Danzig)
David Draimen (Disturbed)
Marilyn Manson (Marilyn Manson, Spooky Kids)
Matt Holt (Nothingface)
Wayne Static (Static-X)
Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir)

281 IRON MAIDEN 06.12.08 at 11:47 am

WHERE is BRUCE DICKINSON!!IRON MAIDEN!!

282 Fonzarelli 06.12.08 at 11:34 pm

Where the fk is Shaun Morgan from Seether?

He’d be right up there..

283 Nick 06.15.08 at 9:50 am

Yep indeed only the total absense of Hansi Kursh makes this list a total joke

284 lance 06.15.08 at 8:19 pm

no bruce dickinson? no shaun morgan? NO GLENN DANZIG!?

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT. but some of the list i agree ;D

285 Deionte 06.17.08 at 3:49 pm

Why in the hell is that punk with a weak voice sammy hagar ahead of david lee roth. diamond dave should be first, foloowed by rob plant then axl rose. after that you all can doo whatever u want to the list

286 John 06.17.08 at 6:54 pm

Ronnie James Dio is so much better that robert plant. Theres no way he should be # 1

287 Eks 06.22.08 at 5:51 am

This list sucks! Where is Sebastian Bach? Donnie Hart?

288 Whiskey 06.25.08 at 3:26 am

Sebastian Bach is at number 36.

I do not understand these lists at all. It’s as if they simply took the 100 most famous singers with even the remotest connection to heavy metal and arranged them randomly from 1 to 1000. Makes no sense to me. Worthless.

289 King chaos 06.27.08 at 8:15 am

ozzy should be higher along with dave mustaine, and how the fuck can you make this list without even including shaun morgan, zakk wylde, eric bloom, jeffrey nothing, or chad gray? this list is bull shit

290 Sam 06.27.08 at 1:13 pm

Any list of metal vocalists without Hansi Kursch can’t even be called a metal list.

291 gary brannigan 06.27.08 at 4:15 pm

where is mike patton
he is without doubt one
of the finest vocalists of
his generation.

292 jt 06.29.08 at 12:07 pm

Has anyone ever really listened to Layne Staley SING? And we are placing Axl Rose ahead of him? You honestly cannot compare their voices. Don’t even try to argue.

293 samerezzo 06.30.08 at 3:01 am

layne staley should be in the top 5..that guys voice is just amazing…gives me goosebumps everytime i listen to him

294 gary brannigan 07.01.08 at 3:38 pm

johnatan davis,chino moreno,serj tankin,chester b
have all in the past have cited MIKE PATTON as an influence
on their carrers.yet he is not on the list.

295 Provo 07.03.08 at 7:17 am

08. Ozzy Osbourne??? tiene una voz de mierda!
16. Jonathan Davis… if jonathan sings better than layne staley and maynard..
im fairy…wtf is that!? falling away from me…? bullshit!
just go and listen rooster or man in the box from live facelift concert of Alice in chains or mad season.. laynes voice is powerfull..
or go and listen pushit from salival.. or thick and leeches.. listen orestes ..kurt cobain.. jajaja..
COMERCIAL!

296 Claudia 07.03.08 at 10:32 am

This list is a shit, for me the best is Serj Tankian, his voice is amazing, he´s a great singer, his voice is melodic, strong, potent, beautiful, he can sing differents kinds of music, and he´s no only a best singer of metal, he´s the best singer of the world.

Tell me who can sing any song?, any kind of music?, Ozzy can sing jazz, regge, lyric?, noooooooo, Ozzy only can sing metal, but Serj can sing this kinds of music and metal too!

297 BRUCE DICKINSON>YOU 07.05.08 at 12:22 am

Are you fucking kidding me? Bruce Dickinson is HANDS DOWN THE GREATEST METAL VOCALISTS OF ALL TIME… Go fuck yourself if you feel differently…. UP THE IRONS.

298 Truemetalhead 07.09.08 at 12:27 am

This list is almost complete shit. The only things i like about this list are the inclusions of Lajon Witherspoon (lead singer of sevendust for those who dont know), Jonathan davis, and Chris Cornell in the top 5. Axl should be in the top 10. now putting AMY LEE, FRED DURST, MIKE SHINODA, etc on this list makes you look like a jack ass. Layne Staley should be in the top 10-15 along with sebastian bach. Serj Tankian is not up there with the likes of JD or Lajon Witherspoon as Nu-metal singers, but SOAD is a great band. Its bands like Slipknot and Linkin Park that make Metal fans hate the genre.

299 daniel 07.10.08 at 12:51 am

yo corey taylor sould be way up in the list he souldnt be 86 plz edit it

300 Joey 07.10.08 at 11:15 am

Where is Till Lindemann of Rammstein?????

301 Caprinous 07.10.08 at 10:59 pm

Pure waste of time, ridiculous list…
Where the fuck is Chuck Billy, Chuck Schuldiner, Anders Fridèn, that guy from opeth i don’t remember the name… Serj tankian should be higher, James Hetfield is not that good SINGER, he should be like 30. Dave mustaine is a great guitar, but not singer. Tom araya, hells troath, should be a lot higher. Jimmy Hendrix? WTF? WHAT THE FUCKING HELL IS JIMMY HENDRIX DOING THERE?
WHERE THE FUCKING HELL IS MAX CAVALERA FROM SEPULTURA?
GEORGE FISHER FROM CANNIBAL CORPSE?
What about Björn from SOILWORK?
Chad from Mudvayne?

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS COREY TAYLOR DOING THERE? STONE SOUR AND SLIPKNOT METAL? THATS RIDICULOUS CHILDISH SLEEP MUSIC! TAKE THAT SHIT OUT OF THERE, AND COREY SUX BAD! FOR FUCK SAKE!

For fuck sake, you don’t know a shit about music, vocals and metal, kill yourself.

302 The BigMan 07.11.08 at 1:34 pm

Corey Taylor should definately be in the top ten.

most of theres bands aren even metal. we all know that led zeppelin is good old raw rock and roll

303 Bcall 07.12.08 at 9:55 pm

Klause Meine of Scorpions is arguably the best pure vocalist. Have you ever seen the guy live? Awesome. He is 60 years old and he sounds as good now as he did in the 80’s.

304 jesse 07.15.08 at 7:40 pm

How are Maynard James Keenan and Layne Staley not in the top 5? And they’re below Cobain? What makes me even more pissed off is they’re below dio. Dio sucks ass end of story. Maynard and Layne are THE best. Serj and Cornell are also awesome and I love jim morrison but the doors weren’t metal at all.

305 Hell Yeah!! 07.22.08 at 12:01 pm

This list is almost complete shit. James Hetfield & Druce Dickison rocks! Hetfield & Dickison are the best singers I ever listens!
Ahahaha!
______________________________________________________________________
Hell Yeah!! Metal` Up ur ass!! Up the IRONS!!! Are you agree with me, Mother fuckers????

306 Team arctic 08.02.08 at 10:09 am

ohh come on like 75% of the list wasn’t even metal what the fuck…i mean like mike shinoda and chester bennington linkin park isn’t even really metal theyr’e like pop rock

307 Retard 08.02.08 at 12:03 pm

DEZ FAFARA ALL THE FUCKIN WAY HES BRUTAL, COREY TAYLOR IS SICK AS WELL, DAVE WILLIAMS (RIP) SHOULD BE HIGHER UP AS WELL

308 beast 08.03.08 at 1:26 pm

no chris cornell? WTF!!!!!

309 beast 08.03.08 at 1:27 pm

never mind found him….
good placement

310 exonn 08.10.08 at 2:48 am

1.Matt Barlow

311 fuckyourthirdeye 08.10.08 at 7:57 am

wtf? How can Maynard James Keenan (Tool) and Serj Tankian (System of a Down) be below Jonathan Davis (Korn), even Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) is better singer that Jonathan Davis.

312 not relavent 08.10.08 at 3:15 pm

this is rubbish,
the way i see it the top 10 should be:
1-Glenn Hughes
2-Ian Gillan
3-David Coverdale
4-Ronnie James Dio
5-Ozzy Osbourne
6-Robert Plant
7-Paul Rodgers
6-Jon Bon Jovi
8-Mick Jagger
9-John Lennon
10-Bono

313 Dez 08.12.08 at 4:54 pm

Who ever posted last (called “not relevant”) is an idiot….. The original list is “Top 100 Metal Vocalists” emphasis on the word “metal”… John Lennon, Bono, and Bon Jovi, who the hell made them Metal? Yeah the original list is crap too, but maybe you should figure out what real metal is… Damn…

314 Ignorantpeoplesuck 08.12.08 at 5:08 pm

Hey, “fuckyourthirdeye”! Who the hell gave you the right to say that Maynard James Keenan (Tool)is better than Jonathan Davis?! Korn has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, that’s more than twice of tool’s record sales! They have had nine consecutive debuts in the top ten of the bilbooard 200! And Korn actually has a meaning behind their music….

315 Walker 08.14.08 at 11:18 am

How in the hell is David Draiman #42? have you heard stricken? Seriously. And where the hell is M. Shadows? And Freddy Mercury? He’s classic rock not metal. Not to mention he’s a homo

316 daggz 08.14.08 at 10:09 pm

MMM LETS SEE, ROD STEWART, DAVID BOWIE!!! JAJAAJJA, THAT MUST BE DEFINITELLY A JOKE, THEY ARE NOT METAL THEY EVEN SOUND MORE LIKE POP THAN ROCK, AND DAVIS, DURST, & SHINODA ABOVE BLACKIE LAWLESS AND DAVE MUSTAINE ON THE RANK?? HOW THA FUCK?

SHINODA DOESNT SING A GODDAMM THING, DURST AND DAVIS ARE NOT METAL AND ABOVE THAT THEY ARE NEARLY COMMON THING, MUSTAINE ON #89??? , BLACKIE ON #78?? , COVERDALE ON #54 BELOW SINGERS LIKE DE LA ROCHA??? NO WAY, AND SAMMY HAGAR ABOVE DAVID LEE ROTH?? RIDICULUS, DAVID LEE ROTH WAS THE REAL TALENT ON VAN HALEN, NOT HAGAR, THIS LIST IS ABSOLUTELLY STUUUPIIIDDDD..

317 ronaldreaganftw 08.15.08 at 5:25 pm

Hey, Ignorantpeoplesuck, record sales don’t mean much. Of all those people on that list Robert Plant’s band Led Zeppelin sold the most (300mil which is 10x more than Korn). Anyways, most of the list is rather ridiculous, but as a Led Zeppelin fan I’d say Robert Plant be #2 or #3. Dio in #1 and if Robert Plant is in 2 then Bruce Dickinson as #3. They’re all famous, commercially succcessful, and in the case of Plant some of the most influential figures in metal.

318 pigdestroyer 08.18.08 at 10:40 am

Mike Shinoda and Fred Durst??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

319 LinkinParkNED 08.19.08 at 9:45 am

LOL!! Chester Benninton should be much higher than 46!! nmbr 1!

320 Joey 08.21.08 at 12:26 pm

I think Meshel 01.01.07 at 8:19 pm is a complete asshole and has no idea what he is saying, his comments are simply not congruent.

Please do not let people like this make any comments.

Regarding the list, yea, you fucked up, many people should not be on it, not because they essentially suck, simply because they are not METAL singers.

For the singers that ARE metal singers you got the order mostly right.

321 alejandra 08.22.08 at 6:44 pm

322 C.C. 08.25.08 at 1:10 pm

Chris Cornell is the greatest voice ever. That’s that!

323 AVSteve 08.26.08 at 3:14 pm

I’d like to see (hear) a competition between the top voices on this list singing Wasted Time by Skid Row. I’m no vocalist but that song seems like it is very strenuous on the voice and Bach does it well.

324 Nathan 08.29.08 at 10:32 pm

I like the list but who can say Hagar is better than david lee roth i mean be serious dude look at all of van halens best songs runnin with the devil jump all thoose with lee roth no hagar just telling you

325 Tim Robin 09.05.08 at 8:29 am

Wtf? Omly like 5 of the people named are actually metal. Whats up with that?

326 PureAmericanMetal 09.05.08 at 8:35 am

Fuck you guys!!! No Phil Anselmo? No Randy Blythe? You guys are idiots!!!

327 Dumb Commenter: PureAmericanMetal 09.05.08 at 8:52 am

If you can read, you’d see Hit Parader made this list, not HearYa

328 PureAmericanMetal 09.05.08 at 8:59 am

Fine. Replace “you” with “these” and the second one with “they”. Happy?

329 Slipknot 09.11.08 at 11:59 am

Como va a estar Corey Taylor en el puesto 80 y pico ò_ó Deveria estar en el primero se lleva de calle a todo los demas !!!

330 Chris Easy 09.12.08 at 9:12 am

Fuck you Motherfucker!

331 Chris Easy 09.12.08 at 9:12 am

This fuckin parade..it’s a fuckin shit!!Freddy Mercury at 6 and Bruce Dickinson at 7?Sebastian Back at 36?????????This singer are fantastic heavy metal vocalist!they in the history of the music!
Fuck you Motherfucker!

332 Chris 09.21.08 at 9:26 pm

Fred Fucking Durst aint no metal this guy got punked out by that weak ass nu-metal band slipknot he cant mc so he decided to try to put rock in his music and ended up screwing it up even worse.Isnt this guys (alledged) influence as a teenager to rap was vannila ice!Screw fred durst.

333 Henry 09.28.08 at 9:45 pm

shaun morgan should be up pretty high, he has an identical voice to kurt cobain and kurts # 20. kurt was also grunge not metal so he shouldnt even be on the list but since you did bother to put him there, he should be like fucking number 1 or something not all the way down there, plus i think matt sanders aka m shadows is decent enough to be on there somewhere, and david dramain deserves to be higher up to. johnathon davis is good but not good enough for 14 he should be more like 20 or so. jesus, you guys are stupid.

334 Eddie Grim 10.02.08 at 5:42 pm

How the Fuck can Mustaine be 89 who the fuck did this list who the fuck fuck fuck FUCK fuckity fuck did this shit ass list at least shoul be close to number 20 or something but 89 is fucking up shows how these guys now nothing about metal they should of put Philip labonte to but um i dont see him o and this list fucking sucks ASS

335 retardno002 10.03.08 at 1:38 pm

man Phil Anselmo is on the list. It would have been ridiculous if he wouldn’t have been SOMEWHERE on it… in my opinion, John Davis should have been somewhere higher and Maynard too.

336 retardno002 10.03.08 at 1:40 pm

And where’s chad grey? (mudvayne)

337 Lethargic 10.09.08 at 12:16 pm

What I get from reading the list and from most of the comments is two fold: (1) the list included many singers that were enertainers/frontmen(women) and not neccesarily “metal” (2) people have trouble with labels. Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Acid Rock, Alternative Rock, Grunge, what are we up to now, EMO? I mean come on people, whats with the labels and isnt the genre about not fititng into labels to begin with. I grew up in the 70’s and listened to shit that at the time was considered “not playable on radio”, Alice Cooper for example..into the 80’s Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept (Udo Dirksneider…lol, to even read that name made me laugh and start singing ‘Balls to the Wall’), into the hairband 80’s Motley Crue, Poison, and even at the time Queensryche. People forget that a lot of bands were underground, or not so popular with the mainstream and after one or two albums became successful, which made them sound different and try different things. Judas Priest is a perfect example, Metallica..my God I remember “Metal up your ass” bootleg and “Creeping Death”, no one was listening to this except hard core metal heads at the time. Led Zeppelin at the time was the same way, it wasnt until 10 years after the fact that mainstream caught a hold of it. So enough with the labels fellow rock music lovers. All is relative. If its ROCK then its on this list, in my opinion..whether that be Hard Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Grunge or so forth…cant have 90% of these singers on here if its only considered “Metal” and who would decide who was and wasnt? Maybe the list should have been “Top 100 frontmen who imacted metal” or to some degree. Bruce Dikinson…great frontman, great performer, long ass Iron Maiden songs, great scream, same tone and voice in every song…if my memory serves me correct; same with Halford, and Priest is still one of my favorite bands. Bon Scott, same voice and tone in every song, but yet still an icon of rock/hard rock, metal. Sebastian Bach, incredible levels and voice, super great scream…but you cant pick one or two songs out of Skid Row’s history and call them metal by any means…they were hair band/glam rock just as much as any other band at the time. Chris Cornell, my favorite singer next to Plant of all time, super great frontman and performer but when he goes nuts and does solo albums or collabs he makes me want to puke. Jimi Hendrix, my God, a man that redefined rock, and if you dont call his live versions of Hey Joe, Voodoo Child, or Machine Gun metal then neither is more than half the songs from the majority of bands on this list..haha! Really! Danzig; it cracks me up to see people keep mentioning him, but if asked they can give you one song he ever did, and its far from a Heavy Metal song, Hard Rock may-be. The list is for top frontment, influential frontmen obviously…putting Danzig on there is like putting Henry Rollins on there, in my opinion. Some of the names needs moved around, and sure – some need deleted or replaced but not for the reasons half of you opinionated morons give. Long live rock!

338 lml (>,., 10.19.08 at 6:24 pm

Ville Valo beats Corey Taylor?… Kurt Kobain & the boys from KISS beat David Draiman, Phil Anslemo and James Hetfield?! Who wrote this garbage?! Kobains range is novice compared to Disturbed, Metallica and Pantera’s frontmen & Corey Taylor isn’t given enough credit as a singer because of Slipknots constantly aggressive style. And KISS…the ony good thing about the band is their guitarist Ace Frehley…where the HELL is Bruce Dickenson?!

339 whatever 10.23.08 at 11:33 am

This is fucking STUPID!
How is Kurt Cobain higher on the list than Layne Staley?
Besides, Nirvana was nowhere near fucking metal.

And Chris Cornell, although fantastic, is also NOT A METAL SINGER.

Whoever wrote this is a goddamn moron.

340 whatever 10.23.08 at 11:36 am

OH MY GOD!
Wes Scantlin?!?!

I didn’t even SEE him before.
That guy is shit. Why the hell is HE on here?!

This list is just ridiculous.

341 Manny 10.25.08 at 4:50 pm

wow, Matt Barlow isn’t on here?
this list is seriously incomplete
some of these vocalists are either not metal, don’t deserve to be as high as they are and others are just not high enough (Corey Taylor)

-__-

342 indonesianarie 10.26.08 at 2:06 am

AGAIN: we’ll read in peace if you replace the Metal by Rock…i am still not sure whether this is contest of popularity or contest of the best voice…this is my list but who cares!
1. Dio
2. Bach
3. Anselmo
4. Cornel
5. Coverdale

343 ANNUBIS 10.26.08 at 12:09 pm

344 matt 10.26.08 at 8:10 pm

how is anders friden not on this list? or wayne static? or any real “metal” singers? this list should be renamed… top 100 rock singers (metal is an overstatement)

345 Emilio 11.03.08 at 6:14 pm

Mikael Åkerfeldt? Tonny Kakko? Anneke Von Giersbergen? James LaBrie? Tarja Turunen? Simmone Simons? Angela Gossow? Michael Romeo?

I mean… they could be replacing Mike Shinnoda, Fred Durst, Chester Bennington and others…

Corey Taylor should be higher.

Ozzy sucks. As a singer, at least.

346 Kelly 11.09.08 at 10:58 pm

Sebastian Bach deserves a better spot
top 10 atleast
his voice is awesome

347 dustin kurz 11.19.08 at 2:34 pm

349 Basket 11.20.08 at 6:49 pm

Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge should be placed on the list. The dude is awesome.

350 Metalmania46 12.01.08 at 7:49 am

This list is pretty crappy i mean come on…James Hetfield should be higher, WTF!! is Lemmy doing at #48 he should easily be in the top 20…..Sebastien Bach from Skid Row should be up further and Gene Simmons a better vocalist then Jon Bon Jovi…Come on thats just bulls**t, i mean im a big fan of kiss and that is just not right. who ever did that list needs to be taken out the back and shot!

And no phil anselmo? idiots.

352 Nia 12.27.08 at 11:21 am

I could understand Jonathan Davis being on the “list” because he is pretty damn good at what he does. An Maynard James Keenan is pretty good too. I don’t understand Fred Durstor Mike Shinoda. and Amy Lee above Cristina Scabbia? Come On!!!! But how did Rod Stewart get on the “list”? WTF? I also agree that Layne Staley should be higher on the list and Howard Jones should be ON the list.

353 faithnomorefan 01.05.09 at 11:33 pm

Where is Mike Patton?

354 Mehdi 01.13.09 at 6:09 am

Aaron Lewis ===> 14 !!

355 kimbiu 02.03.09 at 11:13 am

Mike Shinoda?..here!?…I mean,I like Mike Shinoda,but isn’t he a rapper or something?
..and Jimi Hendrix is followed by Ville Valo?:|…
okay,this list REALLY sucks.

356 D-Gyzzle 02.03.09 at 12:00 pm

well i hate to say this but i am EXTREMELY disapointed.
half of those guys aren’t even CLOSE to “metal” or even “hard rock”
sorry, but jimi hendrix was NOT METAL ( he was a great singer though)
sorry again but Maynard and Draiman should be way up there! Along with Johnathen Davis and Dio.
I rest my case.

357 Daniel 02.06.09 at 7:47 pm

Where the fuck is Corey Talor!!!

358 theo 02.10.09 at 9:35 am

i think this list aint bad but 20. 1 rob halford is not better than bruce dickinson, dickinson should be number 1, no 2. i lyk korn but how come jonathan davis is so high he has a wierd voice, also i think SlipKnoT’s corey taylor should be much higher the list is greatest METAL vocallists not twatty singers, coreys scream, singing ans shouting are all metal! oh yeah and i don’t think that led zepplin r metal they r more classic rock! THEY ARE CLOSER TO FOLK THAN METAL!

359 Rudy 02.16.09 at 5:08 am

This list is bullshit….you have RAPPERS in here and Curt Nobrain but you leave out Michael Sweet of Stryper???? put the religion stuff aside and NO ONE except maybe Geoff Tate can put this guy to shame! this is a voter chosen popularity contest bullshit list….I’m googling a different list…

360 MANOWARRIOR 02.22.09 at 2:29 am

ERIC ADAMS is not in the list what kind of joke is this.ERIC ADAMS should be first in my opinion(obviously).and you must have mentioned Freddie Mercury as well you asshole.
FUCK OFF this list sucks!!!!

361 Manos 02.22.09 at 12:09 pm

You guys all suck!!!Bon Jovi should be much higher because he’s a great voice and diamond-albums(Keep the faith,Slippery when wet,New Jersey,etc.).Also Sammy Hagar has much better voice than David Lee Roth,I agree here…Cobain,Fred Durst,Shinoda and Manson suck! They shouldn’t be here and be replaced by Deris and Kiske from Helloween, and Robin McAuley from MSG…

362 Jazz 02.28.09 at 8:18 am

Wow, who’s the fucking dumbass who said Korn is better than Tool? For one, you absolute idiot, Tool is one of the most meaningful bands (lyrically) EVER. I can’t believe you think Korns whiny 13 – year old bullshit can be compared to Tool. I’m all for opinions and stuff, but seriously, Korns lyrics suck. Badly. Also, Corey Taylor is a terrible singer. Stop begging for shit nu-metal singers to be put on like fucking Chester Bennington. That guy is an emo piece of shit. This list is laughable.

363 ben 03.03.09 at 4:20 pm

how was this list put together? album sales? total album sales? total concert turn outs? greatest concert turnouts?? i would rly liek to kno

if anyone knows how this list was put together plz email me’
benkingofdragons@hotmail.com

364 Nebs 03.12.09 at 8:33 pm

How the FUCKING FUCK is Miljenko Matijevic Not numero uno on this list… anyone who doubts me listen to She’s Gone by Steelheart… he kicks pretty much every vocalists ass

365 Krazie 03.13.09 at 8:37 am

what!!! this list is not right!!
james hetfield should be in the top 10!!
and so should gene simmons!

366 hellektra 03.21.09 at 10:10 pm

This list is bullshit and based more on popularity or an attempt to appeal to young readers than anything
else. I don’t understand how shitty VIlle Valo can be higher
than Dave Mustaine. Kurt Cobain may have been a good
songwriter, but his vocal skills did NOT merit a #20. I also find it
ridiculous that Alice Cooper and Jon Bon Jovi are under Trent Reznor and Serj Tankian.

367 CR 03.23.09 at 3:28 pm

everyone has forgotten about the best hard rock/metal singer ever AARON LEWIS. theres no fucking way he should be #49. he deserves to be at least in the top 10, AT LEAST!! fred durst is a bitch, that shouldnt be on there at all. and all these gayass country/mellow rock type shit singers could go fuck off.

AARON LEWIS 100%.—#1.

368 FaLKo 03.24.09 at 3:29 pm

Hard rock and Metal:

I prefer my list:

1. Dio
2. Bon Scott
3. Ian Gillan
4. Bruce Dickinson
5. James Alan Hetfield

369 wtf?!?! 03.28.09 at 5:12 pm

kurt cobain was a fantastic musician but heavy metal??

40% of these artists have nothing to do with metal, and the ones that do are at the bottom

370 nebrec 04.08.09 at 6:52 am

wat d fuck s this list?
stupidest list ever been made is this……

371 LACEFILTH 04.13.09 at 10:06 am

Dani Filth is the best no number 95, Dani must is beetwen the top ten

372 Ben Fieldhouse 04.15.09 at 4:08 am

Most of these singers are not really metal. Seriously David Bowie? I’m not criticizing him or anything – he’s a good singer but he should never be on a metal list. Kurt Cobain as well – same can be said. Most nu-metal singers also shouldn’t count. However my major criticism is that neither David DeFeis nor Matt Barlow is on there.

How about this list?

1. David Defeis (Virgin Steele)
2. Matt Barlow (Iced Earth)
3. Bruce Dickinson
4. Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian)
5. Rob Halford

Fred Durst? I’m serious here – He reminds me of 50 Cent. The people who need to decide on these lists are the metal fans.

373 Natalia 04.16.09 at 5:49 am

Are you serious???Top Vocalists?Sorry but if this was really about the voice Corey Taylor should be in top 10!!!And Mike Shinoda? He´s a rapper NOT a singer!!!This list sucks…

374 Tama 04.17.09 at 8:29 pm

why James Labrie, Khann of Kamelot is not on the list they are also good and James Hetfield placed on no.24..i’m not totally agree also Fred Durst
is so away he should placed on no.20 and up for me i’m not agree to this lists of best vocalist!

375 Andrew 04.19.09 at 11:05 am

Thus us a terrible list… WHERE is Tarja Turunen, Tony Kakko, Jarkko Ahola, Marco Hietala, Yama B, John Cavaliere…

376 Andrew 04.19.09 at 11:07 am

oh and jorn lande…

377 Sheeds 04.19.09 at 12:29 pm

No mike Patton?

And as much as I love NIN, the only time Trent could pass for metal was the Broken EP.

378 Matt Phillips 04.20.09 at 1:13 pm

where on earth is Myles Kennedy on the list, he is an incredible singer

379 Metallic Anger 04.24.09 at 1:05 pm

C’mon at least there are a few good names in there, for the guy who disagrees with Ozzy Osbourne being on this list.. Black Sabbath was God of heavy metal bands.. who do u want to be included? Justin Timberlake?? fuck!

380 Benji 04.24.09 at 11:58 pm

1. chris cornell- (a large chunk of soundgarden CAN pass as metal)
2. bruce dickinson (awesome METAL singer)
3. bon scott (yet again, another awe-inspiring METAL singer)
4. maynard james keenan (Fucking badass singer, best lyricist that ever lived in addition to his BEAST set of voice-pipes)
5. serj tankian(this guy is a BEAST melodic metal singer)

that’s that

381 Tim 04.26.09 at 6:56 am

How the fuck did Bon Jovi make it over Corey Taylor?!?!

382 guitarlover 04.27.09 at 6:27 pm

Brian Johnson should be higher than 39th
he is an amazing vocalists

383 Ryan T. 04.30.09 at 8:35 pm

Like so many others have already said, this list is an insult to metal and metal fans! Good to see two of my favs though…James Hetfield & Jonathan Davis.

My guess is the person(s) who compiled the list does not listen to enough metal, perhaps only the pop/top 40 stuff.

384 Jake E Wylde 05.01.09 at 7:26 am

Call me a puss but where the hell is Mark Slaughter?? The man could go 5-6 octaves and he’s not even mentioned…………….

385 Kyle Auger 05.02.09 at 7:11 am

this is to that “jazz” person

korn and slipknot are both good bands so shut the fuck up and respect other people music instead of your shit, and how is chester emo, for fucks sake fall out boy are emo, not linkin park, and also why are you saying whos the dumbass, it says in the title who made the list.

386 me 05.03.09 at 8:45 pm

wow this list sucks, alot are not even close to metal. perfect example.

david bowie…not metal
dani filth, ozzy, rob zombie…metal

387 shanewalsh 05.04.09 at 5:01 pm

what the fuck,
this list is an abomination,
this is more a compilation of famous and obscure vocalists from every genre of music,

bands like queen, acdc. zeppelin are rock,

slipknot and system of a down are not music let alone metal,
its pathetic to see 1 dimensional vocalists like serj ahead of steve perry and probably the greatest vocalist of metal ian gillan,
im counting that as he sand in sabbath,

this list is an abomination and seems like it was made by 10 year olds who have yet to understand the concept of metal or a good vocalist,

may i ask where the fuck is blaze bayley and paul d’ianno?
to take the job of being maidens vocalist you have to have extreme vocal talent,
he has a range of 3 octaves and probably the biggest lung capacity of any vocalist i know,

388 Darkrose 05.04.09 at 5:12 pm

I think..after readin most of d comments dat….this Shitlist 4got to mention dat metal meant any subgenre of it…ie a genre wid metal as its suffix. But even then this theory cant bail it out of its crappiness. Elvis???!!?? Rod Stewart??Shinoda probably did nu metal but is a friggin rapper.Amy Lee may have ventured from her Gothic rock to a miniscule part of metal.

389 Jake E Wylde 05.05.09 at 8:33 am

They obviously missed puttin the singers in the correct categories. Figure a rock magazine would know their shit a little better. Didn’t take in voice quality as seen by this shitlist. Steve Perry, Slaughter, Cornell serious pipes. Ranked this low or not even on the list……..Hit Parader should ashamed of themselves. See ya over on the Metal Edge site.

390 NCollins 05.05.09 at 10:59 am

This list did a good job of ecompassing new and old. People are going to be biased either way based on their age. Personally, I think Aaron Lewis, Maynard James Keenan, Vedder and Cornell should all be higher. Not sure why Ronnie James Dio, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Dee Snider are on the list. Really nothing special about their vocal abilities or lyrics for that matter. Its seems like more of a popularity list rather than talent. The inclusion of Josey Scott and Dave Williams was quite humerous. Also, as much as I dislike his music and think he is a douche, Sabastian Bach should be higher because the guy can wail.

391 Milo 05.10.09 at 1:20 pm

Corey Taylor should be top
Followed by Chris Cornell, James Hetfield and Wayne Static

392 Adnaan 05.15.09 at 3:58 pm

These List are all total BULLSHIT!
What the hell is Mike Shinoda or Fred Durst doing here they might be good singers but NOT METAL!, Topic was Heavy Metal Singers, like Bruce Dickinson, Dee Snider, Ronnie Dio, Ozzy Osborne, Corey Taylor,… Besides Most Heavy Metal Bands have good singers….

393 A Real Vocalist, please 05.15.09 at 10:52 pm

Based on vocal range and power, these are the best vocalists (in no particular order)

Axl Rose
Jon Bon Jovi
Steven Tyler
Freddie Mercury
Robert Plant
Amy Lee

It’s amazing how everyone keeps dissing these people, when in fact they are the best vocalists on this goddamn list. Most of you people hate these vocalists based on the sound of their voice (Axl) or the band that they are from (Jon Bon Jovi) or feel that they are just overrated (Robert Plant). Trust me, these vocalists are GOOD. A good vocalist can’t be judged on the sound of his/her voice, because everyones voice is different. It should be based on their vocal range, emotion, and enthusiasm.

Another thing I can’t help but notice is that ALL metalheads are completely retarded when it comes to vocals. Corpsegrinder? Tom Araya? Seriously? They all SUCK. There’s no such thing as “metal vocals” or “rock vocals” or “country vocals”. It’s just vocals. A metal vocalist should be judged exactly the same way as a rock vocalist. Here are some examples of BAD vocals:
screaming
growling
rapping
shouting
squealing (I’m talking about YOU, Jonas Brothers)
yelling
basic talking

So yeah, I’ve just eliminated your precious George Fisher, Tom Araya, Chuck Schuldiner, and all those pathetic excuses for vocalists.

Basically, the name of this list would confuse readers. It should be called “Vocalists Who Were Part of a Metal Band”, rather than “Metal Vocalists.” Because in reality, there’s only one way to be a vocalist: sing.

So please, stop dissing on guys like Axl Rose, Robert Plant, Jon Bon Jovi, Freddie Mercury. They are true vocalists. The only one of them that was in a metal band was Robert Plant. The others are Rock, which I still believe is the greatest genre of all time. But I didn’t come here to rant. Here’s my list of the best vocalists who were part of a metal band (again, in no particular order):
Robert Plant
Ronnie James Dio
Rob Halford
Corey Taylor (he’s not really good, but he’s one of the best metal’s got)
David Draiman (I HATE this guy, but he’s also one of the better vocalists in the metal world)
Matt Saunders/M. Shadows (I have infinite respect for this guy. He burst a neck artery onstage, got his vocal chords rearranged completely, and still manages to sing. Can you do that? Oh wait. You’d be dead)
James Hetfield (this guy actually sucks, but also one of the best metal has)
Ozzy Osbourne

I think that’s about it. Trust me, I do know what the hell I’m talking about. If anyone disagrees, well…I’m pretty sure you’re a typical metalhead who knows nothing about vocals.

P.S. I don’t hate metal. I love ’70s metal, along with Metallica. But I hate metalheads (the fans, not the band members). They’re gay.

394 A Real Vocalist, please 05.15.09 at 11:07 pm

I’m not only disappointed in metalheads’ knowledge of vocals, but society in general. I’m not sexist or anything, but sometimes I just wish teenage girls would judge a singer based on their vocals rather than their goddamn looks…*cough* Jonas Brothers.

Oh, and as a vocal enthusiast, I do watch American Idol. I have to admit this is the bullshittiest season ever. That Kris Allen loser should’ve gone home a long time ago, damn it.

Oh and Honorable Mention to:

Matthew Tuck (from Bullet for My Valentine)

I know there’s some debate whether this band is metal or not. But hey, if the metalhead community decides this band isn’t metal…well, you’re missing out on a great vocalist.

If the metalhead community decides that this band IS in fact, metal, then congratulations. Matthew Tuck is your all-time greatest vocalist in metal history.

395 rockzorz 05.16.09 at 12:41 pm

who the HELL could EVER call Rod FUCKING Stewart a metal singer??? This way outta order too.

396 tiararay 05.19.09 at 3:17 am

Layne Staley should be much higher. Listen to Facelift and Dirt, POWERFUL!!!

397 llamaofgod 05.20.09 at 5:30 am

Where is Randy Blythe?!?!? And how about Howard Jones? That’s real metal…Shinoda doesn’t even do the singing in LP, it’s Chester. And Jonathan Davis? C’mon…

398 charles 05.21.09 at 2:52 am

gavin rossdale is metal?
and fred durst doesnt kno how to sing
chris cornell is hard rock and mike shinoda raps he doesnt sing

399 charles 05.21.09 at 3:04 am

btw not all of them sings metal

400 danny 05.21.09 at 6:01 am

john davis is a god

401 Devin 05.21.09 at 10:18 am

lol…I mean, there’s really nothing other to do than to laugh at this.

Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury topping ACTUAL metal voices such as Phil Anselmo, Peter Steele, Dani Filth, and nameless others?

This list is seriously a joke

402 Veve 05.26.09 at 7:04 am

1. Layne Staley (Alice In Chains)
2. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
3. Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering – By the way..she beats by far any Amy Lee).
4. Maynard James Keenan (Tool, APC, Puscifer)

And I love Nirvana, I began listening metal with Kurt Cobain but he does not have an extraordinary voice. The top should be made not by how famous one band is, but by the voice of the vocalist.

403 what a nitwit that guy is 05.26.09 at 1:26 pm

The person who made this list doesn’t know shit about rock, metal or any other kind of music for that matter. What a load of shit. Gene Simmons is 29th ?!?! are you fucking kidding me ?!? Make no mistake, I love KISS, but Gene is a horrible singer. Just listen to God of Thunder, its a good song but the vocals are horrifying.

404 brandon 05.28.09 at 12:04 am

Honestly this says METAL VOCALISTS, not WASHED UP OLD ASS PEOPLE WHO CANT SING FOR SHIT….. James Hetfeild should be number one followed by Dio, Dave Mustaine, Vince Neil, Corey Taylor, Ozzy Osbourne, Chad Grey and everyone else who revolutionized the metal scene…. David Bowie…. seriously? FAG

405 zekren 05.28.09 at 12:28 am

honestly, this list is made up of some shitty ass singers who arent even considered metal. who the fuck decided david bowie, fred durst, steven tyler, and mick jagger were fucking metal. that is some seriously some stupid as bullshit. most of these singer arent considered metal, pop rock at best. all those who fucking dis linkin park, korn, tool, soad, disturbed, slipknot, staind, and metallica should all burn in fucking hell and suck on the devils hariy burning balls!!!!

406 Zach 06.02.09 at 11:34 am

umm… Where the hell is Hansi Kursch?

Seriously, if you were going to re-cast Led Zeppelin he’s the only one who can do Robert Plant

(And he has a five-octave range!)

407 CriticsConfession 06.03.09 at 2:08 pm

Well… Axl Rose is a pussy and not metal. Steven Tyler is not Metal, where the hell is Matt Barlow, Lance King, and who the fuck is Robert Plant?

408 CriticsConfession 06.03.09 at 2:08 pm

Yeah, and why didn’t I notice this… WHY THE FUCK ISN’T HANSI KURSCH THERE?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!??!?! He’s the number 1 no doubt!

409 Dan 06.05.09 at 2:22 am

Hah, this is by far the worst list I’ve ever seen.
I started reading, said Plant shouldn’t top a metal list, then I read down a bit and saw Geddy Lee above Geoff Tate… and stopped really paying much attention to the list.
I then saw the Korn vocalist at 16 (*laughs*), and now I hear Rod Stewart’s on the list.
Worst. List. Ever.

410 handsyman 06.05.09 at 9:23 am

erm…..Freddie mercury.???
WTF!!! Queen are clearly not metal…rock :yes..metal: NO!!!!

Why is Corey Taylor so far down…complete bullsh*t!!! He’s like one of the greatest ever! He definately should have been in the top ten!!!!!

I agree with ‘Woody’…(3 down) THIS LIST SUCKS!!!!!

411 EvLeYe 06.05.09 at 9:55 am

this list is retarded…how the fuck are hendrix and david bowie one there? come on…

412 CYCO 06.05.09 at 10:41 am

La esa lista no incluyen a
Joey Belladona mejor vocalista de los 80 de una trashmetal y Jhon Bush ambos de ANTHRAX

413 CYCO 06.05.09 at 10:44 am

Mike Muir from Suicidal tendecies????? and Joey belladona, jhon Bush, frona ANTHRAX, Chuck Billy from Testamente, Petro Zousa from EXODUS, and more

414 dennis 06.06.09 at 8:43 am

pepper is on the list !!!

415 Andrew 06.06.09 at 6:03 pm

Most of these singers aren’t metal vocalists, nor were they from metal bands – when since was the rolling stones metal? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like the stones, but they arent metal – I wouldn’t even consider led zepplin metal. And where’s Michal from Opeth, or James Labrie from Dream Theater? (Though the latter would be contraversial)

416 danny 06.09.09 at 3:34 pm

people need to stop bashing john davis he has a voice that cant be duplicated he created a whole different style of sining and hes good at alot of instruments.

417 soldier of filth 06.10.09 at 4:18 am

umm, why the FUCK is Fred Durst on the list? he has no effing talent whatsoever…unless you call whinging and moaning talent…and ppl like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Scott Stapp? yeh ok, Freddie was an amazing singer, but he’s defs not METAL…and as for the other 2 dickfuckers mentioned above, they can go fuck cows, with the likes of Joan Jett, Amy Lee and Gavin Rossdale…ppl like Corey Taylor, Dani Filth, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie need to be HIGHER! thank god Chris Cornell and Bon Scott are there…and even though Zack De La Rocha (rap metal) and Anthony Kiedis (funk metal) use rapping techniques in their music, they should be higher as well cos they front up funk and rap Metal Bands…though speaking of which, i hope Stadium Arcadium is ignored on the list cos Anthony’s gone a bit soft…his old stuff kicks ass!

SlipKnoT and Cradle Of Filth 4 life!!!

418 carlos 06.11.09 at 8:08 am

Freddie Mercury at 6?!?!?!?!?!?!
he shoulda been 1

419 Shit List 06.12.09 at 10:05 am

Pepper Keenan is #73. Maybe you should read the list before bitching about it. Either way, this list is utter bullshit and Hit Parader should take a look at what they define as metal.

420 brandon h. 06.15.09 at 12:59 am

What are you talking about? phil anselmo and pepper keenan are on the list. god are you blind or something.

421 Zach 06.15.09 at 8:31 pm

in my opinion, serj tankian, alice cooper, and joan jett should have been higher than that. buut thats just me.

422 Patio Alfredo 06.16.09 at 8:47 am

why there is no Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir in this list??
and why the number one is not Ronnie James Dio??

this list sucks!!

423 BloodDawn 06.16.09 at 9:53 am

can’t see aleksi laiho anywhere……

424 alex 06.16.09 at 12:26 pm

alot of these singers i love(david bowie, freddy mercury) but there not metal, most of the list isn’t metal, and one question,

WHERE THE FUCK IS BILL CORGAN, GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME?????

425 zac 06.16.09 at 9:15 pm

this list is just full of insults and slaps in the faces to both metal bands and good vocalists. First why is Ripper so damn low? The man chosen to replace #2 on the list, it doesn’t make sense. I understand a number of the hair metal bands making, obviously.Other points I will disagree on, the presence of Fred Durst on this list, especially above King Diamond (another one who is being horribly disservice by this list). Chris Cornell, #4? definitely now. And Manson better than Araya, Lemmy, and Dez? No justice. Outside of Chris Cornell, the top 10 are good

426 Wesley K 06.19.09 at 9:08 am

Wow this must’ve been forged by a teething 12-month-old.

Problem 1 Maynard James Keenen behind Paul f***ing Stanley and Feddie Mercury, Maynard should have been t-20 if not t-10.

Problem 2 why is Rod Stewart on this G**DAMNED LIST not only that he is before actual metal vocalists.

Problem 3 Not big a SlipknoT fan but why is Corey Taylor #86.

Problem 4 Freedie Mercury is NOT (I repeat NOT) metal. So take him out.

Problem 5 I love Rush and I have news for Parader rush is Progressive ROCK. If Geddy was in tool it would be prog-METAL. So here is some math for Parader Geedy=ProgRock, Metal=/=Rock therefore Geddy=/=Metal.

Problem 6 Sammy Hagar doesn’t deserve the #12 position but I can get over that because David Lee Roth doesn’t deserve to live, much less be on this list.

Problem 6.5 David Lee Roth quote (and you will find it in every song): “OOOooo!!! EEEEeeee!!!!AAAAAaaaaa!!!!!”

Problem 7 Kurt Cobain is probably one of my 5 favorite vocalist ever but grunge should not be equivicated to metal. Nirvana may be regarded as metal now but Cobain never lived to see that developement.

Problem 8 Wouldn’t call myself a Crue fan but Niel Should be higher.

And to close a comment: On the next list of 100 Greatest Speed Metal Vocalists of All Time I should expect to see, J. S. Bach, Toby Kieth, and Julie Andrews.

427 Wesley K 06.19.09 at 9:11 am

Oh yeah and when you take off the non-metal vocalists you only have about 60 people anyway.

428 Mark25252525 06.19.09 at 1:36 pm

First off.. some of this i agree with. Robert Plant deserves his position, Jonathan Davis should be a bit higher, but still decent. but where’s David Draiman, and Anders Friden? they have amazing metal voices. Sully should be higher as should Corey Taylor. Also, Christina Scabbia, and Amy Lee have really good voices. they should be higher. i think Lajon Witherspoon should be higher too. this whole list is a popularity contest. fuck rob halford. he’s only there becuase of his “revoultionary” sound which sounds like crap. This isnt really heavy metal list, its a rock (and all of its off spins) list. Grunge isnt heavy metal… but if were counting it, Lane Staley is better then Kirt Kobain. And David Lee Roth is way better then Sammy. also, Lou Gram has an amazing voice and should be in the top. List needs adjusting

429 Adam DeVine 06.20.09 at 1:25 pm

Okay, listen to a band called Opeth. Then you’ll be kicking yourself for not putting Mikael Åkerfeldt on this list. Also James LaBrie and Zakk Wylde should be on here.

430 danny 06.21.09 at 1:08 am

john davis is #16 ya ya nothin but the best

431 matt 06.22.09 at 11:42 pm

where the hell is james labrie from dream theater?

432 matt 06.23.09 at 12:20 am

and Lynn Strait from Snot? this list is a fucking joke.

433 Z0Di4C 06.23.09 at 7:15 am

are u fking kidding me with this list…its like its made by a bunch of kids…

434 UnderanthraX 06.23.09 at 4:05 pm

phil anselmo has to be in the top ten he is better singer, and has a big and strong vioce, he is better then the rest of the list somebodys no desirve to be here, like that sh*t serj tankian

435 jamie 06.25.09 at 5:33 am

john davis my favorite singer ever #1 korn fan

436 Meteal 06.25.09 at 9:19 am

WTF man there are less metal singer but more nonesense.
I totally disagree rap singer fred drust !!!????
Man
Rod Stewart metal ???? it’s total nutz
what is happening to the metal list today! all nutz……

437 Albert Mond 06.26.09 at 10:49 pm

This is a terrible list. For starters, a good deal of these guys aren’t metal.
Kurt Cobain? Eddie Vedder? Mick Jagger? Rod Stewart?
Srsly, wtf.

Then, you’ve got crap vocalists/vocalists from crap bands on here.
Gene Simmons and Fred Durst on any top 100 list is pushing it.

438 Sergio Velasco 06.29.09 at 1:11 pm

Jim Morrison, John Lennon y el mas importante de todos MIKE PATTON! es mas hasta el wey de Engelke y Martin Jaques

439 Alexander 07.04.09 at 7:05 am

Mike Shinoda?!? this list is shit :)

440 nick 07.04.09 at 8:36 pm

wow theres alot of john davis lovers and im one of them korn forever

441 mowgli4peace 07.05.09 at 3:47 am

THIS SUCKS ! This list is made up by looking up names of heavy~hard rock/metal (incl. pop-rock, glam, trash, alternative, etc) bands on sites like Google/Wiki…and then compiling the names of their singers (in no particular order of merit). That I can do in an hour or two, myself. The guy(s) who made the list apparently have no ideas regarding Falsetto, Vibrato, Soprano, Tenor, Pronunciation, etc etc. My personal favorite includes John Lawton, Ronnie James Dio, Bernie Shaw ,Paul Rodgers, Ian Gillan (early years), Joe Lynn Turner, Bruce Dickinson, Graham Bonnet, Phil Moog, Ian Astbury, David Byron, Mats Levén , Jack Bruce, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Steve Perry, Ted Nugent, Freddie Mercury, Jorn ..,Tony Martin, Leslie West, Sharon Den Adel, Tarja Turunen, Doro Pesch, Lee aaron, Ann Wilson, Pat Benater, Simone Simons..and dozens others, whose name I don’t recall or might not be familiar with (yet) (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER) …With ‘english’ as my second language…but deep rooted in music culture..I ,very profoundly, understand what makes a singer a “TALENTED SINGER”…. PEACE.

442 nathaniel lowe 07.09.09 at 3:31 pm

This is a great list but, instead of Metal it should be Rock or Hard Rock at that. Freddie Mercury and David Bowie aren’t really metal. They’re more of a Glam Rock.

443 Alok 07.11.09 at 12:56 pm

I agree.
I m a big LP and LB fan fan but i dunno why Mike and Fred are here…. Chester sure deserves it…. i guess Fred is here because LB is numetal and they are gud surely (y’all will agree 2 dat…). But i haven’t heard Mike singing. And Mustaine should be ranked higher shouldn’t he. Also Any Lee 69…. she is gu, i agree but Evanescence is not metal at all.

444 Robert Paulsen 07.12.09 at 10:28 pm

JONATHAN DAVIS???? TOP 20????
ABOVE COBAIN???!!!!

Why not just add Scott Stapp to the list just to cause a little more internal bleeding?

445 teddy 07.13.09 at 1:58 am

john davis such an unerated musician

446 Chester 07.13.09 at 3:57 am

452 aeryn jordan 07.17.09 at 9:26 pm

lajon witherspoon is underrated. so is keenan, hetfield, and bennington. mike shinoda is not a better vocalist than fred durst and brian johnson should be higher

453 AltMetal 07.17.09 at 11:37 pm

WHERE THE HELL is BRUCE DICKINSON (Iron Maiden) ?!!!! Why isn’t he here? And if Amy Lee of Evanescence and Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil are here, why isn’t Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation here?!! And NIRVANA’S KURT COBAIN IS HERE?!! AND EDDIE VEDDER?!! >:-O Hell, those are grunge bands! Another thing- COREY TAYLOR AT #86? What?! Plus, FRED DURST is here? And Mike Shinoda? They RAP, not sing! Who are they going to put next on this list, huh? EMINEM?

455 nelson medrano 07.19.09 at 1:30 am

fred durst ahead of corey taylor? this list does suck

456 Hawdaddy 07.19.09 at 10:32 am

Okay, 50% of this list isn’t remotely metal or acceptable. The writer of this “list” should be forced to listen to nothing but metal than a week and rewrite this list. It’s ignorant and unacceptable to have grunge and blues rock considered metal. And a bit of the metal vocalists on this list aren’t that good.

(Mike Patton anyone?)

457 ernest 07.19.09 at 4:43 pm

WTF????? where´s Howard Johnson from Killswitch Engage !!¿?¿¿¿

458 James Johnson 07.20.09 at 9:58 am

where the hell is Devin Townsend. I DEMAND to know

459 Colin 07.20.09 at 8:12 pm

What Fucknut made this list?

460 Dan 07.24.09 at 1:03 am

This list is worthless without Layne Staley. He’s easily in the top 10 if not top 5.

461 ARCSERAPHIM 07.24.09 at 2:43 pm

WHAT THE FUCK NO POWER METAL VOLCALISTS!!!!!!!!

462 devin 07.26.09 at 2:50 pm

this list is bad but i agree with johnathan davis at 16 whoever thinks kurt cobain is a better singer than jd is far mistakin

463 Iron Maiden 07.26.09 at 3:39 pm

BRUS DICKISON NUMERO UNO OZZY PUTO

464 Iron Maiden 07.26.09 at 3:40 pm

465 FALCAO 07.26.09 at 5:33 pm

Serj Tankian E O MELHOR =DDDDDDDD

466 Tiby 07.27.09 at 5:31 am

Wtf? Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda and Fred Durst as metal vocalists? Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park are not even real nu metal like SLipKnoT or KoRn. They are just rap ROCK. And where is Till Lindemann. He is more metal than these three poser.

467 dani 07.27.09 at 4:46 pm

i think that the top 10 is ok but then its just bullshit, come on Amy Lee? that bitch is just some gothic wannabe, so is marilyn manson, sammy hagar over david lee roth?; kurt cobain and eddie vedder? that’s grunge, people! bruce dickinson, james hetfield and dave mustaine should be way over the list, and WTF are mick jagger, joan jett, jimi hendrix, anthony kiedis, david bowie, scott weiland and freddy mercury doing there? ok jimi is da shit, but come on he died before metal was even born, this list is just nonesense, the title should be something like the best singers in rock history, cuz there are really good frontmen from a lot of rock genres, but certainly not just metal

468 I am the man with no name. Either that, or I forgot again. 07.28.09 at 1:45 pm

Although I do agree that this list is, on the most part, shite; just wanted to clear soemthing up. Freddie Mercury can appear on this list as a vocalist for Queen. Queen did mostly metal back in the early 1970’s before the band changed style and got reconition. I don’t think it’s enough for position 6. But either way, it’s enough to apper on the list in the first place. Maybe around position 30 is fair.

469 Bobetta 07.31.09 at 3:56 pm

I agree in that over haf the people in this list aren’t heavy metal, but in the defense of those who aren’t heavy metal on the list, I must say you shouldn’t call them bad since they’re on the list. It isn’t that they chose to be included on the list. If anything, blame the author not the people included. It’s also key to keep an open mind to other music tastes. What may be shit to you may not for others, and as shown multiple times, many of you have no care for others’ opinions.

470 Some suggestions for the list 08.01.09 at 8:43 pm

You know, I agree with this list a lot. Except, I think it needs a little revamping. Here is how the top ten should really look:

1. Joe Jonas.
2. Nick Jonas.
3. Kevin Jonas.
4. LL Cool J.
5. Jonathan Davis.
6. Pete Wentz.
7. Miley Cyrus (Have you heard her new single? So metal.)
8. Robert Pattinson.
9. Kanyeezy.
10. Mickie Mantle.

I sure hope the editors take my new list into consideration. Thank you for your time.

471 TheSilverDevil 08.01.09 at 8:54 pm

C’mon guys what the hell. That list sucks. Here is a tr00 metal list:

1. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day)
2. Brendon Urie (Panic! At The Disco)
3. Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy)
4. Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth, most metal band ever)
5. Justin Timberlake (N*Sync and his own awesome solo stuff)
6. Jonathan Davis (Korn. I lied before. This is the most metal band)
7. Frankie Palmeri (Emmure. I have to stop lying. These guys are BRUTAL)
8. Corey Taylor (Slapnut… I MEAN SLIPKNOT)
9. Serj Tankian (SoaD. Seriously, metal as hell!)
10. Jigglypuff (Guaranteed to attack your church and crush your holy priest)

472 joe 08.02.09 at 7:41 pm

korn korn korn korn korn korn will never die fan since 94 im not one of those little kids im 26 and backing up korn till i die

473 Manuel 08.03.09 at 7:15 am

Mick Jagger is better singer than Anselmo (Pantera) or Bon Jovi? O_o
My cat sings better than him. I respect the band, but technically, Mick Jagger does not sing, he barks, and no one can deny it with an objetive reason.
I love Nirvana, but Cobain sucks singing. It’s like saying The Ramones made excelent music… Love them! but they made the most simple and plain of music

474 Manuel 08.03.09 at 7:17 am

Sorry SilverDevil, but no way anyone you listed beats Mercury or Dickinson

475 Kalle 08.03.09 at 6:10 pm

Ian Gillian only 43rd? Fail >_<

476 Maciolos 08.04.09 at 12:16 pm

Where is Mark Chaves from Adema? Till Lindemann from Rammstein?

477 madketz 08.05.09 at 7:52 am

WHERE IS MAX CAVALERA!?!?!?!? Like 20 % of “singers” from this list are influenced by his voice and music… to put jonathan davis, mike shinoda, chester, fred durst or chris cornell in front of him!!?!?!? now that’s just rude… that’s really rude… c’mon!!!!!!!!!!!

478 NM 08.07.09 at 9:00 am

THIS LIST SUCKS
CHESTER BENNINGTON LISTED 46 ???!!!!
CMONN HE SHOULD BE LISTED NUMBER 1
HIS VOICE IS TRULLY AWESOME..
AND HE IS LISTED AFTER MARYLIN MANSON..
THIS IS A VOCALIST, NOT A BAND OR WHOS GOT MORE HISTORY…
I MEAN, KURT COBAIN ISNT A GREAT SINGER, HE WAS THE FACE OF NIRVANA, AND THEY GOT HISTORY..
THIS LISTS SUCKS

479 OctaSanitavarium 08.08.09 at 10:39 am

WHAT? No James LaBrie?!

I can’t agree with this list until i see him on it >.<

480 JJ 08.08.09 at 4:37 pm

Okay, what? WHY IS GEOFF TATE AT 14, DAMMIT!?!? WHY!?!?!?!

I mean, I love Steve Tyler as much as the next person, but I personally believe he isn’t all THAT great. Yes, Aerosmith is epic, but are they metal?

No, I think not. Queensryche/Geoff Tate should be at #3. Yeah,

Also though, half of these groups are not metal. They may have been considered metal at one point by the general stupid public, back when they first started, back when what they were was the hardest rocking mainstream music the industry had to offer, but still, the fact remains, LED ZEPPELIN IS NOT METAL. THEY MAY HAVE

481 JJ 08.08.09 at 5:00 pm

Gah. Excuse me.

- BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS OF ALL TIME, BUT NOWADAYS, AND THIS IS WHAT MATTERS, THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERED METAL. And that goes for all of the rest of them too. I didin’t mean to take my anger out on mainly Led Zeppelin. The only people who consider them metal were either more mainstream or misguided.

Also, there are more female metal vocalists. Why no Simone Simmons, Tarja Turunen, Sharon den Adel, Anette Olzen (she’s just a replacement for Tarja though), Lissa Johansson, Floor Jansen, and Ailyn? Although, I personally prefer the other Sirenia vocalists. All of whom I have listed here are amazing, and they all deserve to be here.

This list, I realize, is only compromised of more and semi-popular metal groups, and the other subgenres of metal are ignored.

For example, Hansi Kursch. He is the singer of Blind Guardian. Blind Guardian is a power metal group. Hansi has one of the best damn voices I’ve ever heard. I’m serious. And also, Marco Hietala, from Nightwish. Speaking of, why aren’t any of the Nightwish vocalists on here? Or Within Temptation/Sharon? Symphonic/gothic metal is still metal, and most of it is more metal than what you’ve listed.

Okay, then. All I have to say is: You showed poor judgement with this list. You may have been putting somewhat decent singers in places where they shouldn’t be because of the band’s reputation. Example: Mick Jagger. Some of them aren’t even metal at all. Example: STILL Mick Jagger. And other metal singers (Marco Hietala; Hansi Kursch) from other non-mainstream metal genres are overlooked. Symphonic metal is still metal. Truth is most of these people are not metal, some more have no talent, the rest shouldn’t be here, and none of them are in the right places.

482 JJ 08.08.09 at 5:18 pm

Oh, and no Eric Bloom? Blue Oyster Cult could be considered heavy metal. Yes, I know I’m sounding like a hypocrite, but still. Take off the Rolling Stines and put on BOC.

483 JJ 08.08.09 at 5:19 pm

Rolling Stones, I mean.

484 zack 08.08.09 at 10:05 pm

bruce dickinson is the greatest metal singer

485 Mike 08.10.09 at 10:41 pm

This has got to be the worst list of anything ever written.. well, maybe a few Rolling Stone lists are a little worse.. but come on! It’s almost like they went through someone’s Ipod and snagged every song in the “Most Listened To” artists section.

I think they should allow an online voting session so that people who actually listen to music can have an input.

486 max 08.11.09 at 11:31 am

The fact that Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth isn’t anywhere on this list shows how uninformed the creators are. This should have been the top 100 hard rock vocalists of all time. Rod Stewart? Fred Durst? Robert Plant???? Led Zeppelin isn’t metal and to consider its vocalist the top “metal” vocalist of all time isn’t just blasphemy, it’s straight up wrong.

487 erik 08.14.09 at 11:58 pm

Diamond Dave blows Sammy away somebody must be high

488 Kai 08.15.09 at 12:30 pm

Erm. How is Dani Filth on the same list as Robert Plant?

489 HeadBanger 08.16.09 at 6:44 am

Vocalists of Linkin Park before Blackie Lawless? Are you out of your fucking mind?

490 MetalFan 08.17.09 at 6:28 am

mark chavez should be in the list! Corey taylor shouldn’t be in the end of the list. Jonathan davis rocks! (if someone doesn’t thinks he sings metal just search on the internet, korn is a new metal band and unlike some people say new metal isn’t less metal than heavy metal, it’s just different)

491 Altair 08.18.09 at 1:06 pm

Philip Labonte, Josh Gilbert, Matthew Charles Sanders aka. M. Shadows and Matthew Tuck.

Seriously these people should be way high with Philip on the top. Gilbert maybe a bassist but has an amazing clean voice.

492 it's been said already 08.19.09 at 10:59 am

but i don’t understand why the majority of the people on this list are on this list.
chris cornell? really? he’s got a sexy voice and all but he’s not metal. he’s grunge/alternative, kay?
and ARE YOU SERIOUS amy lee?

why has nobody fixed this list yet? it’s been years people, come on! do something, for metal’s sake!

493 Ravenspawn 08.19.09 at 5:56 pm

Kurt is my hero, but he was grunge, not metal and therefore should be on greatest Rock vocalists, not Metal. and wtf with Ville and Dani being below crap artists like Fred Durst and Amy Lee? they were robbed!

494 Nelson Fields OVERDRIVE 08.20.09 at 8:51 am

ITS OKAY FOR ME BUT IM PRETTY SURE THAT THE #1 HAS TO BE STEVEN TYLER, BECAUSE HE CAN HIT HIGHER NOTES THAN ROBERT PLANT AND AFTER STEVEN THE #2 HAS TO BE AXL ROSE
AND DONT FORGET ABOUT FREEDIE MERCURY THAT OBIOUSLY HAS TO BE #3 =D ITS JUST AN OPINION OK

495 Ignativs 08.24.09 at 3:19 am

Mike Patton is not on the list? Ok, this list is nuts.

496 mlxp 08.24.09 at 8:34 am

omg, this list is beyond lame, next thing you know, Criss Angel would be on for “Mindfreak”

497 Tasha 08.29.09 at 5:01 pm

I have to disagree with spot 1, it belongs to Kyo (Dir en grey) and Jonathan Davis, best singers ever.
Oh and why isn’t Till Lindemann on this, seriously? Also, why is Serj Tankian before David Draiman? I find David’s voice much better.

498 the voice of metal 08.30.09 at 12:30 pm

I can not belive! You put Amy Lee on the list and you forgot about probably the best metal voice ever, her metal majesty TARJA TURUNEN?! Anselmo in front of Coverdale?! c’mon!!!

499 the voice of metal 08.30.09 at 12:43 pm

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, where the f…k is MICHAEL KISKE?! Voice pure as tear! 5 fuckin’ octaves vocal range!!! wtf happened with your brain?! and your ears?!

500 angel with scabbed wings 08.30.09 at 1:03 pm

dude ,
wtf
how can you critize marilyn manson ,
dudes a fucking genuis .
and his vocal range and that tremble in his voice is amazing ,
to me deff number one if not the greatest jeshh go with something must people wouldnt think is the obvious choice . and to have some one like bret michaels ahead of marilyn manson is completley upsird.. axl rose , alice cooper and sebastian bach deff need to be higher on the list , sebastian bachs voice is so heavy and electrfying.

501 Mark 08.31.09 at 7:32 pm

I can’t see it being called a “metal” list but general rock ( including metal ) would be more accurate. And with Rod Stewart in there throw in pop too. Even Led Zeppelin was not truly a metal band and Page and Plant would be the first to tell you that. But a rock band with a lot of influences, yes. They did inspire some metal heads with some of their techniques and riffs in some of their songs.

502 Dan 09.01.09 at 7:20 am

This is arguably the worst list I’ve ever seen.

503 alex 09.02.09 at 1:00 pm

1.chester benninton
and the rest

today is one of the best vocalists can sing until reggeton, her voice is powerful, smooth and versatile is unique, this list shows the best hard rock singers, because most are heavy metal.chester is the patron.

504 sole666 09.06.09 at 3:35 am

You have to make some difference between metal, rock and roll, hard rock and other genres. Everyone who said that some singers suck are retards cause all singers are placed here for a reason. If you say Ozzy or Jonathan sucks at singing you my friend are an idiot. If you say after that Mercury is the best singer then you are gay. This list is not valid cause it doesn’t contain only metal vocalists.
I suggest to check studio versions of songs and live versions and compare.

505 matthew p gardiner 09.08.09 at 7:26 am

Dez Faferra under f*cking Fred Durst and Mike f*cking shinoda?!?! this list is a fucking joke!!

506 lydia 09.09.09 at 12:20 pm

chester bennington should be the besttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

507 JaeDubbleYou 09.12.09 at 6:32 am

As expected, this list is silly retarded… there is no saving this damn thing. I couldn’t fix all the problems in one day. Just off the top of my head… Axl Rose sucks major ass, ‘live’ He couldn’t carry a note with a book bag. Then there is Rod Stewey…(LMFAO) Also, I can’t understand how people rate Cobain over Staley(makes me ill) So does Godsmack… I understand being influenced by a band, they all are… but Godsmack tries so hard to be Alice In Chains, and effin Mad Season….. Eff Sully, damn clown. I could sit here all day and night and still have troubles with this mess. Anyway, here’s my opinion. Much better than Hit Sharade’s.
1) Layne Staley(Alice In Chains, Mad Season, Class Of ‘99′)
2) Maynard James Keenen(Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer)
3) Phil Anselmo(Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual)
4) Chris Cornell(SoundGarden, Chris Cornell, AudioSlave)
5) Eddie Vedder(Pearl Jam)
6) Glen Danzig(Danzig)
7) Marylin Manson(Marylin Manson)
8) Trent Reznor(NIN)
9) Al Jourgensen(Minstry)
10) Robert Plant(Led Zeppelin)
11) Dave Mustaine(Megadeth)
12) Alice Cooper(Alice Cooper)
13) James Hetfeild(Metallica)
14) Billy Corgan(Smashing Pumpkins,Zwan)
15) Andrew Wood(Mother Love Bone)
16) Ozzy(Sabbith,Ozzy)
17) Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots,Velvet Revolver)
18) Kurt Cobain(Nirvana)
19) Mark Lanegan(Screaming Trees,Queens of the Stone Age,Mad Season,Masters of Reality,Twilight Singers,Isobel Campbell,Soulsavers,Creature with the Atom Brain,The Gutter Twins,Bomb the Bass
20) Arron Lewis(Staind)……………………………..
Honorable mention, Zack De La Rocha (Rage Agianst The Machine),
Rob Zombie (White Zombie,Rob Zombie)…

508 Joseph 09.12.09 at 2:46 pm

To Lydia:
Chester is NOT metal. He’s like, nu metal. he’s good, but not even in the top 30.

A lot of this list is fucked up, and I don’t agree with it.

I do like that Serj and Maynard made top 30, they deserve that. Especially Maynard.
David Draiman got a good place also.

But Kurt? What? And Robert Plant?
Not metal.

509 DIMMUMANIAC 09.13.09 at 4:27 pm

DANI?????????????????????????????????????
Where is Shagrath??????????????????????
He is way better than Dani.
Shagrath is Great……………………
Progenies Of The Great Apocalipse…………………………………….\m/

510 Devin patton 09.14.09 at 10:30 am

Ever heard of Mike Patton or Devin Townsend? Easily 2 best metal singers ever

511 Grammyboy99 09.20.09 at 7:56 am

Where the hell is Mike Patton?!? He’s easily one of the greatest, most diverse metal vocalists of all time. For love of god, if they have Chester Bennington, Corey Taylor and Sully Erma on that list, Mike Patton should of EASILY made it on there as well. And further more, Dave Mustaine ranked THAT LOW on the list?!?! WTF?!?!?!?!? he should been in the top 20, easily. This list is a fail SO epic, it’s almost a win.

512 Eric 09.20.09 at 7:00 pm

wtf! phil Anselmo all the way on #37 and they put guys like kurt cobain and jonathan davis ahead of him. Anselmo should be in the top 10

513 Sgt.RonaldSpears 09.20.09 at 9:47 pm

What most people don’t see here is that metalheads who think they know “real” metal always underestimates the nu metal and some grunge vocalists. Fine, Mike Shinoda and Fred Durst shouldn’t actually be here since they rap but not sing, but… Excuse me, people, but, f.y.i., nu metal and grunge is totally accepted as “metal”, since they are fusion genres of metal. types of music (ex.: rap & alternative rock) combined with another type of music (in nu metal and grunge’s case, heavy metal.) = fusion genre. So, nu metal and grunge are accepted, no need to whine about how “yah yah Kurt Cobain rocks but he’s grunge not metal” or “Fine, Chester and Corey can scream well but their nu metal and nu metal isn’t metal at all”.

Bottomline; Nu metal wouldn’t have been called nu metal if it wasn’t influenced by metal at all, and grunge vocalists wouldn’t have been mistaken as real metal vocalists at all had it not been for grunge’s influences from metal.

Enough said.

514 MaryKeat 09.22.09 at 12:05 am

and where the fuck is Eric Adams?

76. Blackie Lawless- needs to be higher.
77. Dave Wyndorf- who?
78. Ann Wilson- who?
79. Jimi Hendrix- i don’t see how hendrix was so big. overrated in my opinion. he can stay on the list though, because of his song foxy lady, and its use in Waynes World.

Some who are missing- Dave Grohl, Jani Lane, David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Billie Joe Armstrong, Gerard Way, Billy Gibbons. if Rod Stewart is metal, all these people are, too.

523 Jake Rogers 10.01.09 at 4:45 pm

What the hell? Corey Taylor #86?! Dude, I’ve listened to a LOT of metal (including some of the losers on this list) and he should be WAAAAAAAAY higher. Same with David Draiman

524 Jeinzu 10.02.09 at 8:44 pm

Where the fuck is Mike Patton! Have you ever heard Faith No More or Fantômas live? This list is a joke, and a bad one.

525 Billy 10.03.09 at 9:32 am

Are you fucking kidding me? KURT COBAIN? Pretty sure grunge doesn’t classify as metal at all. This list is a fucking disgrace.

526 Billy 10.03.09 at 9:35 am

Also… the dude above me has no idea what the hell he’s talking about… Kurt Cobain ranked 1 or 2 but Dio unranked, and Rob Halford a bit lower? GTFO, you’re very lost. This list is bad, but yours is even worse.

527 Hunter 10.04.09 at 5:26 pm

Amy Lee, heavy metal? really? thats cool i guess.

Aaron Lewis HELL YEA!!!
Chester and Mike from LP are pretty cool.
Didnt Think Scooter Ward from Cold could be on here, but thats awesome.
Of Course Axl Rose is up there, GNR Pwns. lol
Chris Cornell Is alright.
Not A Fan of Aerosmith, but DAMN Steven Tyler can sing.
METALLICA= MEGA PWNAGE!!!

528 Kr0w 10.05.09 at 6:51 pm

Wow you guys are idiots…….

This list is based on SINGING talent; not the entire band. David Draiman is one of the favorite singers in my book and he got placed 42. You don’t see me crying about it. In fact I honestly think he should in the top 20. His voice is unique and he’s got that aggression which helps his case.

529 Farhan 10.05.09 at 11:36 pm

c’mon are u fuc**ing kidding me, Axl rose is ‘nt close to being metal???

530 ThiCk_sHiT 10.10.09 at 10:32 am

Where is Joey Belladonna???

Ass Dry!!!

531 Tyler 10.11.09 at 10:36 pm

I honestly think Layne Staley is the best vocalist of all time. Just my opinion though. Nobody could sing with as much emotion as he did.

532 max 10.13.09 at 10:06 am

danzig? matt barlowe? bobby leibling? fucking WINO? where are all these greats? doom metal is more legitimate then confused toolbags like fred durst and jonathan davis. and scott stapp can SUCK on my SHIT. there is no room for whiney little bitch self righteous christian fucks on lists like this, if thats the case put that fairy fuck from underoath up there he’s about as metal as half those fucks

533 max 10.13.09 at 10:10 am

and jake rodgers? draiman and corey taylor are gay too, part of being a singer is knowing how to right relatable, intelligent lyrics. corey taylor just throws fuck or shit in there when he needs a word to round out a line, and have you heard the unedited album version of down with the sickness? i know you have. “NO MOMMY DON’T HIT ME AGAIN!!! NO!!! NO!!!” keep that shit out of my metal man, theres no room for men like these in true metal.

534 slums 10.13.09 at 7:25 pm

Were is SHAUN MORGAN ? He has the greatest rock/metal voice ever !

535 Sora 10.13.09 at 9:28 pm

What????? Chester Bennington number 46????
HE should be number 1!!!

536 Zac 10.14.09 at 4:25 am

yo freddie (true metal fan).. the fact you haven’t heard of most of those names kinda invalidates your opinions on them..

also.. for the record.. danzig didn’t do vocals on Scream.. Michael Graves (the misfits replacement lead singer) is actually pretty incredible..hard to really notice the difference.. kinda like alice in chains with layne staley (someone who you probably didn’t know who he was.. or you wouldn’t easily picked him ahead of someone like kurt cobain.. vs the not so new replacement william duvall.. sounds a lot a like.. not the same feel but he’s still damn good..

not to take away from danzig..but if you’re gonna point how good he is.. choose songs he did vocals for..

other popular songs he didn’t do vocals for by the misfits: dust to dust.. descending angels.. and the classic.. Helena..

check out Famous Monsters.. it’s a really good album..

537 REALLY PISSED 10.14.09 at 11:54 am

WTF!? I admit Kurt Cobain is one of my all time favourite singers but he’s NOT FUCKING METAL. AND WHERE THE FUCK IS METALLICA AND IRON MAIDEN

538 A Shoe 10.14.09 at 12:51 pm

Roy Khan of Kamelot? Jorne Lande? Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica? Where are all the European vocalists who kick ass? Half of the vocalists in this list suck.. and don’t even sing metal. The only acceptable vocalists on this list are Dio, Halforf, Dickinson, Reznor, Alice Cooper, and Dirkschneider. Tom Araya? The man can’t sing… that’s why he’s in Slayer. Osbourne is way overrated.

539 Cody 10.16.09 at 5:42 pm

i think chad grey at least diserves to be somewhere on this list. he has the best voice in all of metal.

540 RalphieBoy 10.17.09 at 12:02 pm

You geeks obvoisly know nothing about music. For anyone to say “Axl Rose Sucks” or anything similar you must be on fricken crack cocaine. He should easily be in the top 5.

NO ONE has the range that he does, he had about 5 or 6 DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT VOICES – each one could blow away many in the top 5 alone. Hes a pussy? Sorry. Actually he was constantly a badass, constantly getting in trouble before moving to LA. Do you think the hair metal guitarist sell out dimebag darrel (yes he and his band of makeup wearing hair-metal pussies are sellouts who woke up one day and said NOW WERE HARDCORE TRASH METAL lol). Do you think James Hetfeld is a badass? Cause he wears black and has a deep voice? Those are the pussies. All an act At least Axl DID NOT put on an act. He did and still does whatever the hell he feels like. And I’m sorry, live, in the studio, etc he DESTROYS 99% of this list.

And I’m not even a huge Axl fan at all. I just know music.

541 RalphieBoy 10.17.09 at 12:11 pm

And another thing, Who the hell ever said the fricken trash metal like Metallica, and Pantera and the GARBAGE NO TALENT death metal, metal core, etc is the only Metal?

Sorry, metal includes most of everything. Trash, Grunge, Hair/Glam, Hard Rock (Hard Rock spawned metal)

Just different types of metal. Not one is like “true metal” who the hell said metal meant you have to fricken growl and what not like the GARBAGE NO TALENT HACKS TODAY INCLUDING Phil Aldresio.

542 UtProsim 10.17.09 at 7:56 pm

Oh, right, Kurt Cobain scored higher then Layne Staley? List sucks more dick then Freddie Mercury. pun intended

543 Ehm... the fuck? 10.18.09 at 12:44 pm

any valid reason for James Hetfield not even BEING on this list? i mean imo he should atleast make the top 5 on a metal list -.-’
Nr 1. James hetfield
Nr 2. Bruce Dickinson
Nr3. Ozzy Osbourne
Nr4. Rob Halford
Nr5. Tom Araya

544 Ehm... WTF? 10.18.09 at 12:48 pm

Wops… didn’t see James on 24… but still.. as said earlier he should be put atleast top 5

545 Jim 10.18.09 at 8:52 pm

It is surprising to think that you people earn a paycheck with this crap! You clearly have no concept of what is metal. For that matter, you don’t seem to have a pulse on good vocalist in the rock genre. Whoever came up with this list should really hang their head in shame and go far away.

…losers, I guess that’s why I never bought your crappy magazine back in the day.

546 Dusan 10.25.09 at 3:51 pm

THIS LIST SUCKS!!! MAJKU VAM JEBEM NENORMALNU,KAKO MOZETE DA PRAVITE OVAKO RETARDIRANE LIISTE!

547 Dusan 10.25.09 at 3:53 pm

other popular songs he didn’t do vocals for by the misfits: dust to dust.. descending angels.. and the classic.. Helena..
You might as well put my name up there above Rod Stewart, I can belt louder then him. I thouhgt it said METAL vocalist. I Guess some people just don’t understand. Rod was never in this class. Placing him ahead of people like Jimi Hendrix is an out right insult.
check out Famous Monsters.. it’s a really good album..NO ONE has the range that he does, he had about 5 or 6 DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT VOICES – each one could blow away many in the top 5 alone. Hes a pussy? Sorry. Actually he was constantly a badass, constantly getting in trouble before moving to LA. 549 Nicklas Petersen 10.27.09 at 6:04 am

1. Anders Friden

550 James 10.27.09 at 2:48 pm

If this was in terms of ability, Ozzy shouldn’t be anywhere near Ronnie James Dio, much less ahead of him.

Rod Stewart? Are you people high?

No Danzig?

What a joke of a list.

551 Farid 10.27.09 at 4:18 pm

WTF where’s Michael Kiske??¿?¿?????

552 cian 11.02.09 at 3:13 pm

wait a minute u can put cory talor on the greatest metal vocalistslist and u cant have mike patton who is known for his amazing vocals and fred durst had like one tune that i would even consider a piece of music

553 An other Dude 11.04.09 at 4:13 pm

I disagree with almost everything! First of all the term of Metal is wrongly used and wrongly interpreted by most of the people! I’m just very happy that I didn’t see John Lennon or Elvis Presley or names of that sort. He just mixed up all the names of the 70’s music and after and just made a list with completely no sense. How can someone put in the same list a singer like Dio or Hetlfield with Hendrix and Robert Plant?!?!?! It’s like eating a burger with fish and chicken topped with special scampi sauce!!!!!

554 SOY UNA PROSTITUTA 11.05.09 at 1:09 pm

555 White Rat 11.05.09 at 4:03 pm

Ridiculous list….this people doesnt know about HM…and they dont even mention spanish singers…ADRIAN BARILARI the greatest HM vocalist ever…

556 Spiritualblackdimensions 11.06.09 at 8:23 am

ICS Vortex should be #1, can’t believe he’s not even on the list.

557 Aldo Rivera 11.06.09 at 8:18 pm

For me Corey Taylor and Jonathan Davis are the best singers of metal

558 Cri 11.07.09 at 9:49 am

This is absurd.

There are MAYBE 20 true metal vocalists on this list.

Mercury kicks ass. But he is NOT metal. I dig Linkin Park. But neither Shinoda nor Bennington are metal vocalists.

Top 5 should be, in no order,
Layne Staley
Maynard James Keenan
Phil Anselmo
Randy Blythe
Bruce Dickinson

Zakk Wylde absolutely has to be in the top 30 or so. Where is Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath? Where are Rody Walker of Protest the Hero and Tommy Rogers of Between the Buried and Me? You leave out so many absolute heroes of metal and put in people like Fred Durst? And Anthony Kiedes, while an awesome vocalist with a good band, is the farthest thing from metal.

559 alex 11.07.09 at 10:33 am

Seriously, who put this list together? At least 60% of those guys are not metal singers.

560 rev.dawks 11.07.09 at 11:18 am

first of all marilyn manson should be #1

561 Blugh 11.08.09 at 1:09 am

Udo Dirkschneider should e higher. His voice was incredibly unique, it’s just that most people haven’t heard of Accept.

This list… was pretty bad all in all. I don’t consider grunge as a form of metal. Hard rock at best. I like Kurt, but he shouldn’t be on here.

I hate Steven Tyler and he’s not metal. Don’t get me wrong, I respect what he has done, but I’m not a fan… That goes pretty in line with Axl Rose. That dick XD

562 Lewis Tocker 11.09.09 at 10:07 am

what the hell?!?! biff byford behind corey taylor? what’s wrong with you!?!?!?!

563 Fluxx 11.11.09 at 12:10 pm

First this list thing is rubbish, you can never pit vocalists in rock, metal, grunge or blues at each other and call it best metal vocalist. Secondly all you commentators are even worse than rubbish, because are far as I know and if you look the guy up on youtube doing his thing, all of you little pussies would’ve known too that Mike Patton is truly the best male rock vocalist ever. Fucking Idiots!!!

564 Alex 11.11.09 at 3:11 pm

It’s more like a list of the ‘top 100 classic rock vocalists of all time’ rather than a list of ‘the top 100 metal vocalist of all time’.

I hope that the inclusion of Rod Stewart in the list was due to his tenure in the Jeff Beck Group and Faces.
But what the hell Mick Jagger is doing in the list? I love his voice but he aint a metal singer!

565 Marvin 11.13.09 at 12:34 pm

Where’s Jeffrey Nothing, his voice and style are so unique

566 chris 11.13.09 at 9:18 pm

y0 fool(s) of the making of this list… actually learn which of these are metal bands! and just because robert plant was in the greatest band doesnt mean he was the greatest singer… at all… mercury was fantastic… i question him being on a heavy metal list, but he certainly participated in a few heavy metal works with queen… axl rose is terrible… ozzy is the master of this as is dio… bon jovi? honestly who calls that metal? their early masterpieces are KINDA like glam metal, but i dont think anyone says that do they?

567 josh 11.14.09 at 5:11 pm

FREDDIE MERCURY AND FRED DURST BUT NO CHRIS BARNES??

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!

568 stupid list, worse comments... 11.15.09 at 12:35 am

this list is a Bullshit with a great B … off that hundred, only around 20 REAL HEAVY OR THRASH METAL are putted in -.-
Robert Plant? Man LZ even`t was metal, some page solos but they were rock, Mercury and Jagger too… only for 1 metal-like writen song they are on metal singers list? And they don’t even put belladonna fucking shit.
Anselmo 37? fuck u … this must be called “we made a list with100 random vocalists cuz we don’t had another thing to post”.
and then osme idiot posts his review of the list and in 70 of the 100 he writes “who?” and he says all are bad singers except the pop singers like hannah montana ¬¬* …
mustaine is the only metal singer that must not be on a metal vocal list, cuz he don’t know singing and thats purely true. But belladonna and millie petroza aren’t and linkin pork are? no thanks fuck you hit paraders.
It doesn’t really matters who’s on the list or in what place, cause all have different favs, but they must be metal singers if the list is for metal duuh… FREAKING SHIT

569 Pmna 11.16.09 at 7:37 am

This list appear in wikipedia as “oficial”… This list sucks, where’s James Labrie, Russel Allen, Jorn Lande, Michael Kiske…?…

570 DieOrBeDead 11.20.09 at 2:26 am

Clearly this list isn’t based on talent, if i see Kurt Cobain make one more list he doesn’t deserve i’ll punch courtney love in the cooch. where the fuck is Danzig? Lauri Ylonen? Half of these people don’t have anything to do with metal. Fuck this. Official My ass

571 Don 11.20.09 at 6:39 am

This list is about as metal a a moldy old sock ffs…where’s proper metal vocalists like George ‘corpsegrinder’ Fisher (Cannibal Corpse), Wojciech “Sauron” Wąsowicz (Decapitated), Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), Jeff Walker (Carcass), Chuck Shuldiner R.I.P. (Death), Mark Hunter (Chimaira), Pat Lachman (Damageplan), Jonathan Hunt (Dead To Fall), Glen Benton (Deicide), Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God), John Gallagher and Sean Beasley (Dying Fetus), Muhammed Suiçmez (Necrophagist), Max Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Soulfly) and Brock Lindow (36 Crazyfists)

Like those are the ones I can think of, off the top of my head…and I could probably think of A LOT more if I tried! Fucking stupid ignorant assholes! At least they have Phil Anselmo in there….AT FUCKING 37! Well done, you COMPLETE idiots!

572 Don 11.20.09 at 6:57 am

That guy Dousan is a compelte fuckwit!!! Doesn’t know who most of the fucking people are on the list ffs!!!! Good I wanna fuckin stab people like that!

573 Ashley 11.20.09 at 10:17 pm

Eddie Vedder should be in the top ten

574 Metal_luv 11.21.09 at 1:05 pm

That list suckss
Oliver Sykes- Bring Me the Horizon
(Death Metal)

575 Phil 11.21.09 at 11:29 pm

This is bullshit. Most of those aren’t metal singers. Also, Corey Taylor? What the fuck?

Here’s the top 5:

1) Fabio Lione.
2) Tim “Ripper” Owens
3) Ralf Scheepers
4) Thomas Rettke
5) Hansi Kursch

576 Phil 11.21.09 at 11:31 pm

Also, Kiske.

577 abid 11.24.09 at 3:23 am

bruce dickinson should be no 1 guys

578 Paradox 11.25.09 at 12:19 am

David Dramian, Goddamn I knew he would be up here

579 Paradox 11.25.09 at 12:22 am

All you dudes who are mocking the guys with their names up their, you can’t name a bunch of bands that only you like, I only like two of the names up there, Disturbed of course being on of them, but you gotta respect other bands for having a vocalist that can really sing, even if it is emo black metal bullshit.

580 Metalhead 11.25.09 at 1:45 pm

Why isn’t Matt Tuck on this list? If They could put Mick Jagger here, he should at least be here too.

581 thilina 11.28.09 at 12:49 pm

Chad Gray not in the list ! but Mike Shinoda ??? seriously !! in Top 100 Metal Vocalists !! oh, Britney spears should be #101 on the list …

Bullshit Bullshit Bullshit !!! damn i wasted my 10 mins for this .. Im gone ..

582 Nishar 11.30.09 at 8:11 am

my previous blog—>Thilina,says it all.

all of you are dip-shit writing your own naive ideas.

sorry but thats 100% true fact.

I mean Mike Shinoda—>Bwahahahahah xD

lemme laugh.

whatever.

this list is too boring.
from aeron lewis to serj tankian all are mis-placed.

cut-the-shit and ,|,, off.

583 BRose 11.30.09 at 3:07 pm

What the fuck? None of these guys have anything to do with metal. This is bullshit.

584 marco 11.30.09 at 7:31 pm

wow this list is fucking ape trash with a side of america. Brandon Boyd beats any of these shitty singers with more vocal impact then a fucking tenors group on any given sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, or saturday. this list is complete trash, boyd isnt even listed. kinda good tho because incubus has a great fan base.
re-edit this with 1. Brandon Boyd

585 Epic 12.02.09 at 2:52 pm

this list sucks for a couple of reasons:
#1 this magazine was stupid enough to walk into having to make a top 100 metal vocalists list when hardly any of the vocalists here are “metal”, should have been more of a top 25 list

#2 they rate freddie mercury behind bon fucking scott, don’t get me wrong, I like both, but neither are “metal” and even if they aren’t metal, freddie mercury should be #2

#3 in my opinion, many people on this list shouldn’t even belong here i.e. james hetfield, dave mustaine, jon bon jovi, geddy lee. jimi hendrix and ozzy osbourne, I love all these people as musicians, but honestly, none of those and more can sing for trash

#4 Rob Halford is good, but not #2. Priest may be one of the biggest metal bands, but halford never even started screaming until their later records, and those records sucked, so I don’t think he belongs that high, here is my version of how the first few people on the list of HEAVY METAL vocalists should be:

1. Robert Plant
2. Bruce Dickinson
3. Ronnie James Dio
4. Axl Rose
5. Rob Halford
6. Kurt Cobain
7. Lemmy Kilmister

I choose to end my list there for the fact that I hate any kind of death metal or hair metal, and I choose to not include some very good singers because that they just aren’t classified as heavy metal singers, good night all, thanks for listening
P.S. Mick Jagger? Rod Stewart? WTF people get these shitty singers off this retarded list

586 Raphael de Souza Camisão 12.03.09 at 4:18 pm

Hey! They have forgot Derrick Green, from Sepultura! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hUM2YH41jE&feature=fvst)

587 Tommy 12.11.09 at 2:16 pm

Most of these singers arent even metal…
Robert Plant??? COME ON! LZ isnt even metal… Rod stewart? Rolling stones? Nirvana? Hendrix? Fred Durst? WTF! why not just throw the beatles in there? or Hannah Montana while ur at it! I’d rather hear her than most of the bands on this list

588 Tommy 12.11.09 at 2:20 pm

forgot to start my own…
1. Bruce Dickinson
2. Rob Halford
3. Ronnie James Dio
4. Geoff Tate
5. Sebastian Bach
6. Jim Gillette
7. M Shadows (had to be put on here)
8. Mark Slaughter
9. Dave Mustaine
10. Blackie Lawless
11. Michael Starr
12. Paul Stanley

what about mille petrozza, and people like fred durst shouldnt even be on there

597 tiby 12.20.09 at 3:32 pm

There are a lot of fuckheads here that think they’re tough and that metal means only growling death shit and doesn’t even go through their empty minds that metal began in the late 60’s with groups like…a… the Jeff Beck Group (yes, Rod Stewart is one of the pioneers of metal), Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, etc. You faggots call yourselves true metal fans and don’t even know what metal is and who started it.

And for Dusan which is a fuckin’ jerk-off, and thinks he’s cool by “not knowing” who Maynard James Keenan or Eddie Vedder or Jeff Keith or Layne Staley or Phil Anselmo or (holy shit, you’re fuckin dumb) Ian Gillan or Phil Lynnot are: FUCK YOU PUNK, GO LISTEN TO BRITNEY SPEARS OR JONAS BROTHERS YOU FUCKIN’ USELESS PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!!

599 Stormintv 12.20.09 at 9:50 pm

there is only one true metal singer and it’s DIO. The boy’s got some cancer shit in him right now so we should all be sending good vibes and hope for a speedy recovery. Go listen to Starstruck or A light in the Black and then tell me who’s the real METAL GOD. RJD

600 Matt L. 12.21.09 at 11:44 am

So Robert Plant is above Corey Taylor? Srsly?

601 Robert 12.22.09 at 10:21 am

602 This List Fucking Sucks 12.23.09 at 2:41 pm

James Hetfield sucks fucking shit covered cocks.

Michael Kiske should be near the top for fucksakes.

603 Crobadass 12.24.09 at 7:42 am

there is one big and important peace missing, and that peace is Brad Delp.

604 Crobadass 12.24.09 at 7:43 am

excuse me, piece*

605 Crobadass 12.24.09 at 7:48 am

ofc if we were talking about top 100 rock vocalists of all time then Brad should be in top 100,not here (can’t find anywhere on the net Delp in top 100,shame shame).

606 th3wick3d 12.27.09 at 12:19 am

Hansi Kursch is not even there, matt barlow is not there and- okay…matbe theyve never heard of them…. but still why the hell is the ripper at 97 then??

607 simen 12.27.09 at 6:17 pm

not even half of these vocalists is metal singers!!!

608 Matt L. 12.28.09 at 9:29 am

I’m pretty happy with where Serj Tankian is. Actually maybe he and Trent should swap, then it’d be perfect.

609 What!?!? 12.28.09 at 8:24 pm

Really!?!? Amy Lee is only #69!?!?!? She has SO much more talent than any of these people. Maybe that’s just MY opinion… but seriously. She has a beautiful talent, and everyone else on here is just considered a ‘rocker’. Lame. She deserves at least the Top 10. I’m disappointed with whoever created this list.

P.S.
Fred Durst doesn’t even belong on this list.

610 Musicismylife 01.03.10 at 12:03 am

guys, this list goes by influence of the genre, so that’s why you’re seeing many artists who don’t fit the metal category. led zeppelin is a HUGE influence to metal, in fact, the term heavy metal was coined to describe the sound of led zeppelin, so that’s why robert plant is top of the list. just because many of these guys don’t use heavily distorted guitars and heavy pounding bass riffs doesn’t mean they didn’t influence metal

611 chrys 01.03.10 at 4:15 pm

more than half of these artists aren’t metal, and have never claimed to be.
also note the decided lack of truly extreme vocals. this is more of a rock list than anything else. it belongs in the suburban emo kid’s guide to metal.

612 TaKLaMyEggS 01.05.10 at 12:16 pm

WTF, mike shinoda is on the list and some other vocalists from metal bands were not…what a gay…LOL..

613 AceOfSpade 01.06.10 at 11:36 am

Hey! WTF!? No Mike Patton :( thatsa disgrace man! Same as Bruce Dickinson and James Hetfielf, i mean how the hell Amy Lee got there and they werent even on the list! urgh! At least unexpectedly zach de la rocha was there so im happy =D

614 Chris 01.06.10 at 1:39 pm

Since when has David Bowie been metal and even if he was, why the hell is he 12 ranks above dez fafara. This list is a bloody disgrace.

615 Daffy 01.07.10 at 4:19 pm

the only thing I know is that Layne Staley should be higher …

fucking Jonathan davis and Kurt kobain higher??

what the hell???

Layne was one of the best ever!!!

616 anna 01.07.10 at 8:52 pm

617 Itchy 01.10.10 at 4:24 pm

Where is Randy Blythe, Zakk Wylde, Chris Barnes, Alexi Laiho, Max Cavelera, Chuck Schuldiner, Dez Fafara, or Mikael Akerfeldt?

What kind of list is it if they dont have names like these?

618 Shangshaptak 01.11.10 at 8:44 am

LOLZ…….half of the guys listed never were, nor will ever be identified as heavy metal vox. The worst list ever. Why not put in Britney Spears and and Michael Bolton too?

619 sam 01.11.10 at 1:56 pm

where the hell is maike patton, and what is the criteria for tpicking these up!!?!?!?!?

620 nigel 01.12.10 at 9:25 pm

My favorite is André Matos. He did a really good job when he was Angra’s lead singer. I like Iuri Sanson, who is Brazilian as well as André, from Hibria. Edu Falaschi is pretty good too.

621 Thanawath 01.12.10 at 9:51 pm

It’s not reliable list.

Indeed, it was ranked by American.

Who can tell me where Klaus Meine (Scorpions), Michael Kiske (Helloween) and Graham Bonnett (Rainbow/Alcatrazz) is?

622 Thanawath 01.13.10 at 4:48 am

This is not a reliable list.

Indeed, it was ranked by the American.

Who can tell me where Klaus Meine (Scorpions), Michael Kiske (Helloween) , Graham Bonnett (Rainbow/Alcatrazz), and Joey Tempest (Europe) is?

However, even the list was ranked by the American, they still forgot Joey Belladona (Anthrax).

623 X.X 01.22.10 at 2:28 pm

This is a poser list. Most of these are not real metal bands.

624 Chriz 01.23.10 at 1:24 pm

625 Sebariel 01.27.10 at 9:33 am

Where is Jeff Buckley? Jacoby Shaddix? Adam Gontier? Jared Leto? Adam Nergal? Gerrard Way? etc
That list is pathetic.

626 Surge 01.30.10 at 5:02 am

Why there hell is Eddie Vedder on here?

627 Aleksander Bjerke 01.31.10 at 8:17 am

This list is completely bull shit! 60% of the people on the list doesn’t even sing in metal bands. Chris Cornell.. Jimi Hendrix.. these are not metal vocalists…

628 Stephen 02.02.10 at 7:42 pm

Where the f*ck is Layne Staley!

629 Phil 02.03.10 at 11:59 am

COREY TAYLOR IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME

630 vladan 02.05.10 at 6:19 am

I don’t know for you guys, but Bruce Dickinson is THE BEST HEAVY METAL SINGER FOREVER! Steve Marriott is singer of the blues groups : ” Humble Pie ” and ” Small Faces “, so why is he on this list? Where is Danzig? And for those who don’t know, Biff Byford is singer of Saxon. I agree that Rob Halford is good singer ( remember ” Painkiller”). Udo Dirkschneider is singer of ” Accept “. Lemmy should be higher. BUT, AFTER ALL, DICKINSON IS THE BEST AND HE SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE.

631 me 02.06.10 at 1:57 pm

axl rose???he is hard rock not heavy metal…and marylin manson is not better than tom araya this list sucks…ozzy, dio, serj, araya, hetfield they are great…I would like to see daron malakian and dave mustaine too

632 Dero 02.18.10 at 2:27 am

Look I know these lists are hard to please everyone but Brett Michaels way ahead of David Coverdale? Should the guy even be on the list?

633 mohaned 02.18.10 at 6:36 pm

eric adams from manowar is much better than alot of vocalists in this list and dio should be higher

634 Vegar 02.20.10 at 6:36 pm

WTF! This isn’t even metal singers. Robert plant? Steven tyler What the hell

635 B-Ray 02.21.10 at 8:02 pm

Most of the list is solid but it is a lie that Dee Schnider is a better heavy metal vocalist than Corey Taylor. Twisted Sister or Slipknot, give me a break.Do me a favour and go on Youtube and listen to We’re not gonna take it by Twisted Sister and then listen to Heretic Anthem by Slipknot and you tell me .I am only 14 and I even know it is a load. If Rod Stewart is on that list I don’t see any reason for Barry Manillo or Adam Lambert to be in the top 20 and where is David Draimen from Disturbed. PLEASE COMMENT !!!!!!!!!!!

636 Sashajade 02.22.10 at 5:09 am

Why, may I ask is David Draiman only number 42? Surely he should be closer to the top 20… AT LEAST. Also, Rob Zombie, Amy Lee and Christina Scabia should be higher thna thy are; crediting everything they have done within the metal scene.

Rob Stewart??? Metal Vocalist??? Who wrote this list…

637 B-Ray 02.22.10 at 4:12 pm

My apologies on David Draiman

638 Baller McSquishy 02.24.10 at 9:53 pm

Axl Rose? Not really, he was the least talented of the group.

I can actually understand Rod Stewart. Original heavy metal was not nearly as intense as it has come to be today. When it first debuted it was much closer to blues (Black Sabbath was originally a blues band) So yes Rod Stewart when he was with the Faces could qualify. Them, Zeppelin, and deep purple were the beginning of Heavy Metal. Just because they don’t scream and just pound on drums doesn’t mean they aren’t heavy.
And have any of you every listened to any of queens early stuff? Without a doubt metal, they eased in to glam rock.

639 Gartha 02.25.10 at 7:35 pm

what the..!!! In first place there many fucken singers that doesnt sing and some more that doesnt even sing:Ñ soo!!!
where the hell are kakko, matos, falaschi, kiske, kotipelto ans somoe more fuckenn ass singers???? why is steven tyler, jimmy hendrix and david bowie there?? FUCK!!!and amm there was a time that plant, mercury and some other more played metal so they can be here!!!
PD death metal screamers doesn sing:Ñ…they scream fuck

640 Nero 02.27.10 at 2:43 am

alright, whoever made this list has no clue or just ignores that this is about metal and not about rock in general. and who the fuck is Udo Dirkschneider – I’m German and I even never heard of him or his bands. And please show me any metal songs by Jimi Hendrix, that would be cool :)

641 Jigga 02.27.10 at 2:44 pm

This fucking sucks.Where is Michael kiske? wtf mike shinoda that guy isnt even singing he is rapping and chester bennington comeon…

642 Te.te 03.02.10 at 5:55 pm

644 MARCO 03.04.10 at 7:25 pm

Best Vocalist Freddie Mercury

645 Beef 03.04.10 at 9:09 pm

Since when was Jimi Hendrix metal?!

Blashphemy!

646 shiftY 03.05.10 at 9:31 pm

james hitfield should be # 1!!

647 luc 03.06.10 at 11:40 am

jesus, jimmy Hendrix? He was michael jackson with a guitar. ozzy sucks but at least he’s metal. oh yeh, what about Matt Tuck from BFMV. and corey taylor schould be in top ten. Cus they do the growling and the screaming which defines metal. Next year’s list’ll probably include hannah montana.

METAL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

648 Ty 03.07.10 at 2:07 am

How you can have someone like Fred Durst on the list and yet over look Hansi Kursch is beyond me. Proving to be yet another list that doesn’t take breadth and scope and range of any individual singer and instead bases it off of soem ungodly largely mainstream list.

649 Smylez 03.08.10 at 10:58 pm

Congratulations people! You have all been arguing about the same thing for about four years, and most of you even did it with half-assed spelling.

Dani Filth, from what I have heard should be higher. I understand why Plant is up there, but truthfully why he is THAT high? I believe the formula they used for this list is based on talent, influence, and legacy, which explains why half of these people are up here at all(Fred Durst caused quite a storm with his open slandering of Slipknot, a dick-move that will make him go down in history as one of the biggest idiots in music, along with many of his clumsy, heavy-handed antics that make everyone cover their eyes in shame.) Chris could outstrip Plant any day, but Led Zepplin still was one of the largest influences of all metal genres in the first place. Corey Taylor and David Draiman should be a little higher, as they both are very talented and charismatic front men of two very competent modern bands. M. Shadows was completely missed from what I’ve seen, and that’s a damn shame. Dio is deserving of the top ten, as he has one of the most potent voices in all of metal. Why isn’t Jack Black up here, I wonder? This list is very Rock heavy because of the fact that the actual line between metal and rock is very blurry, near impossible to tell where one begins and the other ends. Another missing bit may be Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace, as although he is a very basic song writer, he still has an impressive voice and has a nice little penchant for melody. James LaBrie is a very under appreciated vocalist, as with the rest of Dream Theater, and has probably been overlooked because of a relatively small fan base. Glenn Danzig is another anomaly, as he is quite talented. Hendrix was stoner rock and, from what I hear, a terrible voice. Cobain should not be overlooked, although his vocals were poor, he and the rest of Nirvana was still the main influence (with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam) of Grunge, which is the infusion of punk and heavy metal. Jonathan Davis brought Nu Metal to the world, to the happiness of some and the chagrin of the rest. Linkin Park pretty much only put a much more rap influenced twist into Nu Metal, to many of the metal haters’ delights. Keenan does deserve a little more credit, although Tool is not really my cup of tea, due to his very well thought up works. I do not really recall a time when David Bowie was even rock, so he is the real anomaly here, though I may be mistaken.

Now comes my little ideas: Cross out Durst and Bowie. Durst even shames the already shamed Nu Metal genre. Bowie was always one of the greatest pop sensations, but that is all he has made himself stand out for: Pop.

Amy Lee and Ms. Scabbia should switch places. They are both beautiful and talented, but Ms. Scabbia is a tad more able than Amy, even though she lacks the level of fame Amy has achieved.

The artists missing include, but not limited to: Chad Gray(Mudvayne & Hell Yeah), J. Loren Wince(HURT, they are not truthfully pure metal, but they are very competent rockers, either way), Jame LaBrie(Dream Theater), and Till Lindemann(Rammstein)

I really hope this was helpful to some of you who were not satisfied with this list and at least a little disappointed in the manner of three quarters of the comments that I have seen(Believe me, I’ve seen enough of these in my hour of reading.) and hope that this puts this all back in perspective.

650 POTTLEDEE 03.12.10 at 6:29 pm

For starters some of these singers arn’t even metal such as mick jagger, bon jovi, roger daltery, jimi hendrix etc. & Ripper at number 97, you must be joking he should be at the very least top 5. Whoever composed this list obviously didn’t think it through.
