It’s time for HearYa to go tech. Every once in a while I read a blog called TechCrunch that discusses new internet companies and products (a must read in the Silicon Valley). I recently ran across Amie Street, a new type of music site.
In a nutshell, it’s an Indie music site that posts all songs as free downloads. As the song gains popularity (gets downloaded by more and more users), the price starts to rise and is capped at $0.98. I did a quick check at prices and couldn’t see a anything higher than $0.70.
They also are working to spread word of mouth with a social networking element. You can earn credits by recommending songs to others. If a song you recommend goes up in price, your credits rise and you can redeem them for more music.
Amie Street also actively solicits bands (of all genres) to add music to the site. For every song downloaded, the band keeps 70% of the sale. Seems like a no-brainer for indie bands looking for exposure.
I haven’t sampled or downloaded any music from Amie Street yet, but plan to play with it. I’ll add a review or more detailed info then. In the meantime, check it out. And if you know someone in a band, do them a favor and email this post to them so we can buy their music.

Thanks! You should really listen to some music. We have a lot of people on the site right now who make great music.
